Graphic card for FFXIV

Hey there mmorpg:ers!

Im a very interested fan of the upcomming MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV. I feel that my card, gtx 260 isnt that perfect for a high resolution world of FFXIV (on 1900x1200). With the benchmark i scored first 2,6 ( then after a upgraded NVidia driver which seemed to improve the score) i got 2.9. As my other parts of the computer are up to date, it is a huge bottleneck, even at lower resolutions ;)

So i was thinking of upgrading my card for future use, especially for FFXIV, Crysis 2, and the (very awesume) upcomming games 2011 (SWTOR, tera, and rift, Damn ,lots of food on the mark ;) ) After gotten som feedback on other forums, i got the idea of that in this right moment ( or, for the release of FFXIV) to get 2x 460 SLI which are both very powerful for the low price and scale good in SLI. However, my MoBo doesnt support SLI, just CF, so im in a strange position. The other advice was mostly to wait for 6000 serie to get the new 6870 ( or other ones in the serie) in november (btw, does the stronger ones come at first? right?) Cause im interested in a strong card for high resolutions, that are able to do topnotch / very good performance on any game (like the games listen above) for atleast 2011 out, Were talking a card good for 2 years ahead (Im not good how long good cards last, but you get the idea).

But apparently the Nvidias are better for FFXIV, and not sure the 6000 serie will be a hit (you can never know i understand that, but i prefer not wait and spend too much time in Eorzea with my ol card Gtx 260), what do you guys think?

Thank you for your help!

Afaik the benchmark scores are not entirely representative of how well you will be able to run ffxiv at release. There are people using 9800s and 250s in the beta without any trouble. I have a gtx260 myself and got almost exactly the same benchmark scores. I'm planning to wait to see how it performs at release before deciding whether i need an upgrade

I would wait till the game comes out and see how it plays. I have 285 gtx and thats what I plan on doing.

Other then that what wattage power supply do you have? It must be fairly good for the 260 but is it good enough for a Geforce 480 which requires 600watt and 42 amps on the 12 volt rails.

I actually had a chance to run the ff14 benchmark on two very high priced systems with nvdia and ati and they both came out about the same on benchmarks.  Both were inthe 8000 bechmark range. So other then personal preference both card companies high end cards score well.

when I saw my benchmark on there I completely ignored it.  I was running fraps at the time to see my FPS.  The score is definately not indicative of actual performance.

I planned on waiting for the 6xxx series as well but just recently did read that the cards coming out this year r the Southern Island cards which prolly will be better than what u get now but the real new big thing should be the Northern Island cards which come out 2011 so it might be best to grab a 5870 once the prices will fall (sometimes around October) this card will do all u want in FF14 and the money u might save u can invest once the Really new cards come.
