Highest DPS class

I have a quick question I have a friend that is interested in the game but he is wondering what the highest dps class is in the high end game

That would be the Mage. But remember they'd also come in top of the list with the lowest HP and Armour.

I play a mage. Mages do awesome damage, but if you gain too much aggro, you're dead. I am still working on managing aggro and trying to keep mobs off of me. Soloing is nice, because most of the time the mob is dead before it even gets to me. So far I am loving the mage, and I can't say anything negative about the class. All in all, I would have to agree that mages dish out the most DPS.

A rogue with the right talents and some über daggers comes pretty close. Also a warlock with all his DOTs on and nuking like crazy does pretty much dps, but the warlock's mana depletes far quicker than the mage's. Shadow specced priests come in fourth, but their mana regen is also better than the warlock's due to talents.

Warlocks can convert their health into mana though. I am not sure how useful it actually is, since my warlock is too low in level.

If you take some talents to boost up your stamina life tap is ok I guess, and it reduces downtime by a LOT(not like there's much of it anyways), especially if you're undead and you cannibalize. Life tap is not really something I'd use while nuking my heart away (attracting lots of aggro) since if some mob or player did attack me my health would already be low.
