That would be a good upgrade and if you go that route I would wait for the gtx 475.  Honestly that 285 will do great to if you would rather save some money.

    I say 460(cheap) or 480(top end)  screw 470.

I agree with you on the 460 that is a badass lil card but not on the 480.  I don't think its worth the price.  I would rather get a 460 or 470 then overclock it to near or greater speeds than the 480.

Based on the benchmark I'd say no.  The processor will be limiting it(it probably already is).

Your current setup seems like it would run the game just fine, regardless. The benchmark seems whacked.

    To show what I mean:
I have an athlon x3 with the 4th core unlocked running at 3.6ghz with an ati 5870 overclocked.
With all 4 cores enabled I get 4500 on the high res benchmark.
I decided to go in and disable two of the cores and only got 3300.

Not really worth it for a game with no DX11 support (at least I heard nothing about Dx 11 for FF XIV). Add more ram instead or wait until you really need it.

The 470 is an upgrade but not by much, the real advantage of it is the dx 11 support and until you need that you might as well keep the old system.

A 480 would be a upgrade but I am not sure it would be worth all the money. You might as well wait a while instead, Sooner or later we will see a 495 GTX and then it is time to go for it.

With GFX cards you will always have to see what you get for a possible upgrade and today it is not very much. But that doesn't mean things will be the same in 6 months or a year from now.

I'm pretty sure 8 gigs is plenty for a 32 bit game :)
