I am assuming thats 32-bit Windows? If its 64-bit, bumping it up to 4-6GB wouldn't hurt, but not needed really. For the video card, if you can geta  5850 in that price range, and are comfortable overclocking, you can OC is past a 5870 with no effort. I am running the beta on near max settings at 1920x1080 with that video card.

  • DareantkDareantk Member Posts: 106

I wouldn't bother upgrading, your card's decent already and your processor I don't think is going to handle something crazy good. Save your money for a new computer when you can, that 4850 graphics card is similar in power to a 5770,  the winner at the 140~ price range.

  • Gabby-airGabby-air Member UncommonPosts: 3,440

You should already be able to play the game with that build on low-medium settings.

  • IamLightningIamLightning Member Posts: 93

yea its a 32 bit but If i buy a new card will it help? cause I would like to put a nice card in a new pc aswell so I can always transfer it.

  • DareantkDareantk Member Posts: 106

Help? Sure some. How high end will your next pc be? If you get like a $250-300 dollar card now it's going to be bottlenecked heavily and you probably don't have the power supply to run it. You'll need atleast like a geforce 460+ to really see a gain and I don't know how helpful that would be with the rest of your computer, I could only speculate.

Looking at your specs I think your good bro. Have you run the bench yet? It is not a perfect indicator but it will give you an idea of where your at though looking at the min/max specs you are in there.

  • IamLightningIamLightning Member Posts: 93

I plan I buying a new power supply anyway as I dont even have a good enough one for the 4850 and idk how i can use it lol. Also I ran the bench.

cant see the high score screen to small

    Low- 2169

Unfortunately, from the specs you posted everything looks kinda 'meh'. Right now things looked to be matched pretty well: Anything you upgrade will be bottlenecked by other things in the system. I'd just go with what you have until you do a system upgrade later.
  • mainvein33mainvein33 Member Posts: 406

That score will run it. I think the above posters are right your just going to face more bottlenecks with an upgrade. Just save you cash for a new rig later. I think youll be ok to play the game for now and since thats all that really matters your off to a good start.

Well, you're CPU socket is an AM2 socket. Here's my recommendation:

If your motherboard can support an 140W CPU, get

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103285&cm_re=am2_processor-_-19-103-285-_-Product

    If only 125W get

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103877&cm_re=am2_processor-_-19-103-877-_-Product

And spend the rest on a new PSU that has the right rails for your CPU and GPU sockets.

You should check this Link out , your see the ATI 5770 1GB is alot better than your card and its cheap.

Open your case up, and either look for your model number or look for the wattage.

ok and one of those 2 will work forsure depending on the watts? also is it ez install?

Well, you're going to need a few things.

    One: Sturdy hands

    Two: Thermal Paste

    Three: Patience

Computers may seem like fragile things to you, but their not. Opening the case won't damage a thing, as well as touching most of the things inside the computer (if it's on while you do this, it WILL hurt you, however. :P)

Take the CPU cooler off with maybe some rubbing alcohol and a pad to get all the thermalpaste off. Flip open the CPU socket, replace with new CPU, close CPU socket, apply thermalpaste, apply new CPU cooler than came with the new processor.

    Done. :)

EDIT: It's very important that this is all done correctly however, so refer to any guides you can that either come with the CPU or on the internet from another computer to get this down 100%

The pc manufacturer was gateway so I wasn't going to recommend upgrading the system internals.

lol that sounds really complicated and I dont want to fuck anything up, where can I find thermal paste?

I agree with this person. Your specs look fine according to what SE is saying. Any money you through into the system now is just throw away. Save it for your next build.

Newegg.com should fullfil most of your computer needs. Also the first time I took my fan out I broke it, so watch a few videos or read some guides on how to do it properly, its not hard but you have to be careful.

Well if the warranty is already expired it doesn't matter much. It's just like any other computer except it has Gateway on the tag.

Not really...cheap motherboards, sometimes proprietary with power supplies, etc...

Meh, it's a risk we all take, as far as motherboards go. It's harder to tell what your motherboard is and I don't feel like making this poor guy find that model number on the thing so we can tell if it's cheap or not. One AM2 to another AM2 shouldn't hurt anything.

The model number of the computer, which is usually on a service tag of some kind, could be sufficient to find out what motherboard was used by looking nit up on the mnf site. According to gateway it's this ECS MCP61PM-GM NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE Motherboard for model GT5668E. I still don't think it's worth upgrading though. The 4850 is a fine card and the processor is pretty good. Extra money should be saved for a new build.

Agree, agree and agree. Save up for a new computer, you'll play the game on "low" ok(720p isn't that low of a resolution and if I'm not mistaken the benchmark is still running at decently high settings, just at the lowered res). What's the maximum resolution of your display device? If it's not atleast 1080p, that requires an upgrade too really if you're going to get better computer parts.

My advice is to save money now if you can't afford a large upgrade, play the game in a month and later this year with maybe some holiday sales, buy a whole new computer/parts. You need to anyway as any upgrade you do will be held back by your other parts. As for the beta, who is to say how well it'll translate into real game performance, but it is heavily dependent on processor as well as graphics card. Throwing more graphics muscle at the situation won't be enough of an improvement, especially in this game.

I dont care as much about the graphics and such of the game right now cause i know its beautiful anyway, I just want to make sure im not getting like 20fps even on low
