crafting question

I understand in the adventuring sphere if you pick one archetype then choose abilities from another those abilities will be weaker than if you chose that archetype.  Is it the same for crafters?  Will I only be able to be strong in one craft and weak in the others?

edit: Hmm maybe im thinking about that wrong.  I guess you can take those abilities and use them even when you are using the other archetype but if you change your "weapon" then you change archetypes and the ability resumes its normal strength.  So you theoretically could be the best healer/tank/dps/blacksmith/woodworker, just not all at once.  Is that right?

The way I understand it, you can be the best in every profession (adventuring, crafting, etc) but since you can only have one "primary" active at a time, every other professions abilities won't be as powerful as they would be if that profession was your current primary instead.

While you can heal, tank, and dps at the same time you cannot also be a blacksmith or a woodworker.  You don't have access to repairing or synthing (crafting) unless you have a crafting weapon equipped.  And with a crafting tool equipped you're currently limited to throwing rocks, repairing, and synthing (crafting) items.

Currently it appears you need to buy the potentially combat ready gathering/crafting abilities from their respective guilds for guild points.  Thus far I haven't heard of anyone earning enough guild points to buy and test these abilities.  The guild point stores don't appear to be fully implemented as there's often display issues with the menus.  It's very likely once the stores are ready we'll have easier access to guild points and can give you more information about active (combat) abilities for non-combat classes.

As a side note: ideal parties in this game appear to involve a bunch of self-healing dps with caster buffs.  In all honesty protect and shell may be a bit overpowered as they make fights post R20 (class level 20) go from fairly hard for a party of 2/3 to solo-able for a conjurer.
