It seems now that people have started to look at Diablo I/II and WoW,
I agree and disagree with this, first it allows a look at both worlds, and the sorts of things that go on in these worlds, then there is this is and that is already in place for WoW and not for Diablo, but then I think, the items and so on are already in place for diablo, lot more, then there are a lot of skills these as we all know are seen in mmpog and mmorpgs, the ablitys before WoW were set in the warcraft characters and who they were, sure a little gain here and there, give a little take a little.
Ok for those following thus far and I've not garbled them in to the ground with what Ive said, Im trying to say that people are compairing a game with online capability to a MMO.
I still think Diablo would make a great MMORPG, the gaps there, as yet there not be the versitility of race, because all thats there so far are humans, who says a minion of diablo looking to become a greater demon in his lords favour could not be played? (thus the other side).
I will probably never play WoW because of the reviews I feel effect me as a person that just have a big no stamped on them, plus a good friend of mine played beta and he did not enjoy it and we like the same sort of games (however I diverse from the topic at hand)
So at the moment WoW is the new big MMO on the block and people who play it feel if undermind if another big hitter came out, its the way it works, both hardcore players I play with on FF XI and DAoC are "Blah blah hate warcraft" this is just a jelus state.
lets face it in all Blizzard make wounderful games that are a joy to play both Warcraft and Diablo could turn out to be wounderful mmos (by reading people are playing with them selves over WoW )
I still just think Diablo would have made a better MMORPG, sure its a point and click as it is, but so was warcraft, poin click troops go kill, or build or whatever)
Think about it, Diablo as a MMORPG would be great, probably better than WoW if they made it now, has always had a little more "adult" "goth" "crap happens lets go fix it" feel

Dark times are coming!
"adult": Does this mean taking itself more seriously or what? If you consider the large amount of hidden easter eggs and humour that is placed in the warcraft universe immature or child-like/-ish it's your opinion. I think diversity is the thing that sets the warcraft universe apart from the linear diablo dungeon crawls. Yes you could diversify the Diablo universe, but it would take a far larger effort than to go with what you have in warcraft. Warcraft already had such a vast array of monsters, factions and politics that it was easy to develop further. Diablo was like many a game is today you're good and you fight evil. You are the hand of justice... even if you happened to be an assassin or necromancer. When the diablo universe is shed of this (which it will be if it turns MMORPG) feeling of ultimate good and changing the world, what will be left? Believe me the "crap happens lets go fix it" feel will disappear when diablo turns MMORPG.
If you think cartooney graphics are the thing that makes warcraft less adult than diablo, I'll tell you one thing: It was absolutely the best choice because it could be executed far better than "realistic" (putty faced barbiedoll) graphics.
I thought warcraft was the right choice to turn MMORPG the minute I heard of the decision. The only thing I would have altered would be to put in goblins as a playable horde race .
Warcraft background/history/universe are far more suitable for MMORPG then Diablo.
Diablo should be also a nice way to go... maybe Blizzard go for it in the future but the graphic and environment concept is too different. At the moment, WoW concept is unique and there's no other game forwarding to achieve such state of art. Imo most of MMORPG fans are glad Blizzard chose Warcraft. The 'numbers' are showing it.
Blizzard North died, unless they left the project rights behind for the normal Blizzard to work with, then I think Diablo II is the extent of any more of that franchise. =(
I was also woundering that, if they took it with them it may never be. That would be a shame indeed, can some one remind me did they start at climax on Diablo? then move to Blizzard north for Diablo 2? I have so many questions and not enough time to look in to them all and this site seems full of people that have knolage and thought behind what they say.
Oh and when I said adult I didnt mean sexualy wise before, but I think most of you kind of figured out what I meant, as for the golden eggs, they way its portrayed Warcraft etc, yes you hit it right on the nose.
In my opinion, the future-setting MMOs aren't all that successful for this reason: unlimited possibility. This probably IS the reason most people play MMOs, but the world in-game becomes muddled and complex- it's easier to just choose form a variety of bows or crossbows (longbow, shortbow, big crossbow, small crossbow, ect) than to choose from a huge list of different types of guns (uber lightning cannons, acid rifles, beam rifles, rocket launchers, pistols, magnums, sub-machineguns, flamethrowers, ect). Alot of MMOs are based in the "DnD times" because it's really simple and everyone knows what to expect (swords, bows, magic, and really cool looking armor).
Star Wars Galaxies is a good example of the futuristic style gaming gone bad (but not dead). Personally im glad Blizzard didnt choose starcraft or diablo because they had their plots already defined. Diablo has a pretty linear plotline and starcraft was finished (Starcraft Ghost is the "during the midst of battle" game for it). Im sure nobody REALLY knew exactly what Warcraft's plot was besides the traditional RTS "These sides have been fighting a long time and must kill eachother constantly" plot, so it's perfect for an MMO! (another note on a Diablo MMO: there are only so many things you can do with just humans, and as for demons: they're evil and as the player you kill them until you get to the boss... not MMO material.)
Diablo lacks the necessary depth to transfer painlesssly into a MMO. The story is also very finite, which leaves little room to build a MMO in all it's diversity. The only other property Blizzard has that could make the shift is Starcraft. Even that would be a somewhat hard transition. How could you allow individuals to roam freely. How would you eliminate armies and release tech to all peoples. What about the hive-like mind of the Zerg? I guess time will tell on that one. We can all hope anyway.

Diablo II had the best implemented necromancer class over all (MMO)RPG's, and I love being a necromancer.
So there, I chose Diablo 2.
Too bad EVE Online doesn't have necromancers.
"Praefectus raises the ship The Flying Dutchman from its grave, and it is now in teh EVE universe. Pwn!"
"The Flying Dutchman hits the Pirate Dude for 238492 damage, with its Ubre Cannonz of DOOM!"

I think there are to many D&D type MMORPGs on the market already. Blizzard should have used the Starcraft world for their first MMORPG.
