I'm quite excited by how fluid most aspects of the combat and ui seem to be - this should be quite easily accessible.  The combat animations imo, look awesome - I particularly liked how they char warrior was continuing to attack fluidly while on the move.

Sure his out of combat running animation does make me chuckle a bit because in this case it seems like he should be covering more ground with his all-fours strides, but it's not a big deal heh.  Overall, looks good.

I'll reserve my judgement until we see some better quality videos (and one in which there is no god mode). I did like the look of the Charr though, and I loved the run that it had.

The animations are extremely smooth and fluid. I didn't really notice any jerkiness within the movements. The animations when the Charr was swinging his weapons using various attacks was really neat too.

The UI looks fine, pretty typical for an mmo.

The action somewhat reminded me of a more fluid WAR or even Asheron's Call 2.

    Pretty interesting indeed.

In todays mmo market for major projects the animations better be smooth and fluid. I didn't see anything special. It looked kind of cartoony, but was hard to see it clearly. I want to see if any strategy is involved in combat, or is it just the usual- have the gear and min/max button push to victory. Time will tell.

It seems like if you were shopping around back when the sega genesis came out, you would say "Yeah, Sonic better move that fast - this is a 1991 project after all and they're asking a whole $100 bucks.  Not impressive considering." :p

That aside - we already know you can combine techniques with other players.  As far as soloing - I'll also remind you that warriors are probably going to be one of the most simplistic classes to play too, since most of their abilities are in simple combos.

...Oh darn how dare AN add any sort of realism >.>

The game looks better and better so far. AN is proving they are far more reliable in content promised unlike a lot of recent developers. Ironically, I am usually not a fan of any company associated with NCsoft but GW is the exception because of AN.

Personal preference. How dare anyone have an opinion at variance with yours?

People in this thread are so entertaining.... Do most of you not realize that this is only a small demo, simply showcasing some basic combat / gameplay. Of course there is going to be some stuff lacking, and some things still looking a little bit off. Its their very first demo of a game that is basically still in Alpha (if even that) testing, not to mention its a pretty crappy recording. Stop with the "Omg they didnt show us the entire game and every feature and function and all working and looking perfect this isnt any good!" posts. Wait for some actual quality videos, as well as more demos and vids to come out. We will likely see some improvement when they demo the game at PAX as well, and then even more a sthey move into beta and stuff.

For what it is, and what little they were able to show us, im very please. As some have said, very smooth/fluid animations that really bring the characters to life. The Charr running on all 4s is a nice addition. Typically you dont see those types of details (even in GW1), and most devs would just say "Well its easier to just make them walk normal like everyone else, lets do that". IMO Its one of a few things that will seperate the different races and make them all feel unique to play, while not actually giving them advantages over eachother. I think the overall skill effects are looking very nice so far. They are a bit "flashy" i suppose, but not excessive. Mainly just very short & sweet effects which are very easy to catch and recognize the use of specific skills. Much better than various other games which just draw some of the effects/animations of skills out waaaay too much and make them look just ridiculous (like a ranger doing 3 flips and all kinds of other crap just to shoot 1 arrow).

What i would really like to see next (besides a better vid of this demo + some mob AI) is a demo of some PvP gameplay, and how things look when you have players fighting eachother instead of NPCs.

I believe the Charr are bipedal, hence the reason why their movement is like that.

well i beleive they are Quadrapeds that adapted to a bipedal stance as they learned to take arms

I wish they would make a worldwide public demo like E3-for-Everyone with Guild Wars 1 :(

I did like what I've seen in the video though.

I am just amazed how much these developers get it.   As disappointed as I am with the way SWTOR seems to be going, I just think GW2 just gets better and better the more information is released on it.

It is such a pleasure to read about a game that is not another Wow copy attempt.

I know it is just a 5 min blurry video, but they changed one of  gw1 aspects that i hated most: fucking low numbers. I know it doesnt make a real difference in gameplay, but i just love high numbers exploding on my screen. I'm also aware that hardly a character will do 18k damage lol (god mode wins), but if the numbers stay near 1k at endgame then i'll be much happier.

But this brings up the PvP balance question, we'll now definitely see Arenas separated by level (or a pvp scaling down/up system?).

    { Mod Edit }

    Playing: Starcraft II.
Played: Tibia, Ragnarok Online, Ultima Online, Guild Wars, World of Warcraft.
Wanna play: Guild Wars 2, SW:TOR, Final Fantasy XIV, Diablo III.

    Speculating here.

It was said all it takes for you to join the structured PvP was to play a bit with your character, probably to get out of the "Searing" tutorial of GW2. Then from it you will probably get max leveled in structured PvP areas, removing the need to separately create the PvP character.

And while the character was in god mode, near the end of the video when fighting harpies it is turned off, his health seems to be really around 8k at that level (though it seems to take too long for his health bar to go down), so we might indeed by looking at 1kish damage this time at level 80.

Actually they never said you had to play your character at all. Just create you character, login with that character, then choose the enter the mists option and it will take you to structured pvp segment.

I am really keen on the animation of the avatar on all fours. I hope they keep that.

I'm pretty darn sure that will be kept in there. Animations are top notch.

Looks pretty good. Obviously certain things need a bit more work but I liked what I saw even if it was 5 mins of washed out and blurry video. Looks more action packed than your average MMO and definitely much smoother than GW1.

I also liked the stylized UI elements and how the map zoomed in on the character from bird's eye view. Mostly little things but they contribute to the overall experience.

Can't wait to play this game!

i like what i am seeing, i wont put any judgement yet for the game due to the low res of the recording

but 1 thing that i dont really like is the outer glow of Monsters when you point them with your mouse

i mean, it made it looks like an old MMORPG

why the green and red and yellow outer glow?? =(

    So What Now?

There are two types of PvP, WvW and structured.

Structured boosts your PvE character to max level, max armor, has all skills and traits. So everybody starts at an even playing field.

WvW is where you will have some imbalances, but your health and energy should increase if your level is low.

I was going to edit my post to add the same thing but decided to quote you for emphasis. Compared to this video, the combat in SWTOR looks rigid and unnatural.

the glow is really to help the user tell who they are attacking, without it it can be hard to tell. thats my guess and i am stickin to it

18k crit?  What is this nonsense?

GW2 becoming more like a typical MMORPG these days?  I stopped keeping up on GW2 2 years ago.
