Would anyone play a game if there were no classes and no levels?

So the player could decide his/her own fate and he/she would progress based on skill for instances if a player was to use an assault rifles his/her assault rifle skill would go up letting the player steady his/her shots better and aim with more precision.

Also for the weapons and armor they wouldnt have any requirements, so anyone could just pick them up and use them. But the weapons and armor would have a certain range of defense and damage. So lets say the weapon does 40 damage max, but said player has never used the weapon before so it wouldnt do 40 damage right away till he leveled his weapon skill up to what it needs to be so he/she can deal with the kick better and  aim better to hit and kill they're targets wth more precision causing them more damage.

The only reason im interested in knowing is because most mmos require you to be a certain level to use a weapon or armor but in real life(where there are no levels) i could just pick up said weapon and armor and use them. Yes i might not be able to use them properly but i can still use them i just wouldnt get everything i could out of them until i fully understand them.

Anyways let me know what you think! :D

So in other words, a sandbox.

Arbitrary rules, limitations and classes that makes an environment where new players can't compete and are forced to grind through "content" is the reason I don't play 90 percent of MMO's on the market.

    Yeah a sandbox :]

ive always wondered why no one would play these types of games because everyone always complains about grind but never does anything about it and just continues to play games that have the same systems. But ive always been curious to know what people would think of a levelless classless game where its just based on players skills and what they teach to theyre characters.

hmmm if secret world is like this i forsee myself playing alot.

The only reason i think this would be a cool concept for mmos to start incorperating is it would get rid of level grind and let players get to enjoy all the content and not be locked out of it just because they're level isnt high enough.

Sounds like UO, MO, Wurm, Darkfall, etc...

It's not attributed to being a sandbox, though all those listed above *are* sandboxes. There just isn't any cookie cutter type games out there that are willing to break from the leveling mold. I guess TSW would be the first in that aspect.
