Envy... hardly, it's none of my business what others can or cannot do as long as I am not grouped with them, and when I am grouped with them all I hope for is that they are having fun and doing the best they can. I don't care about what gear they have or armor unless it's unique and attractive, or cool or something, then I like to inspect just for curiosity.
Gluttony... as it applies to MMOs.. maybe, but I am always trying to clean out my vault to keep it organized, I don't horde loot as I let others loot, if I know of a good spot to find a loot drop I share the info.
Sloth... no as you define it. I don't ask others to do for me what I can do myself, I help others when I can, I don't sit around and whine about not being level cap... I go out and do something about it. I just don't really care about hitting level cap usually because if I stop leveling it is because I like where I am in level and the area and would rather stay there.

Sloth could be. Meant in the way i have no hurry to level or to acomplish things and i take help if available - i never had hurt my job from gaming.
Beside that i am a very independent player, gaming together with old friends or solo not much looking for new friends. Though in a group or raidsituation i am very cooperative and act in favor of the group/raid. If i do not like their way i simply do not game with them...i am very reliable to the people i like to play with and how i play. I ever try to do and help the best i can with the most coming from my long time experience of gaming
Lust could be in the way that i see my Avatars as my Alter Ego and want them to fit perfect the role and look i see them in so the Warrior has to wear a specific armor that he fits the look i want or the Sorceress needs a fitting robe that looks not bland but gives her the arcane mysterious look. I can not stand Avatars that are crap in armors that are crap with crap animations. I liked the entertainer concept in SWG were you rested from combat exhaustion in cantinas hearing music while seeing the dancers, it was a nice variety after all the blood and gore of fighting and an oportunity to meet other players and chat. It's easy to see that PRIDE is your governing sin. Does this mean it's a bad thing? Nope. A little pride goes a long way. Thinking about how you appear to others whether they be friends, family or strangers is a form of PRIDE. Even when replying to this very post.
Wouldn't call this pride, I think you're trying to look too hard into it or reading between lines that don't exist.
I simply play a game the way I enjoy it. Which is pretty much what I wrote, I like to give stuff, help players, etc. I don't show off to other players saying things like "I helped "x" players today, better than you did".
Also, the use of Pride when referring to the seven deadly sins means boasting about your accomplishments left and right, not acknowledging other's accomplishment, love of self, desire to be more important than others, etc.
This isn't the case here, I was just justifiying why the "Gamer version of the seven deadly sin" does not represent my behavior in-game. As for my reason to respond to this thread has little to do with pride, but rather the fact that I thought it was an interesting subject and wanted to read/share my opinions, which is the whole point of a forum I believe....
Just because your experiences do not match the experiences I listed does not mean you are without sin. I asked what sin do you show the most in MMOs. If it's a little of any of them then list it. Do not say you are without sin based on my limited examples. Fess up and spill the beans. All of us are guilty of something or we appear to others as guilty of everything if we refuse to disclose it.
I myself only gave limited experiences based off my own. But that does not limit this discussion to only examples of what I've covered. So again I ask:
What SIN of the deadly seven do you show in MMOs?
And I leave the answer up to the person's desire to actually be honest about it.

But it was a honest reply! I don't really show any "Sin" in-game, unless I'm doing it but not being aware of it. I do show "sins" outside of the game but in-game....I try to keep it nice just so I don't ruin it for both me and the other players. That's how I've always played MMOs.
But as I said in my previous reply, I'm nowhere near perfect, but those sins don't "define" how I am in-game. I do have quite a few sins outside of the game world though, but in-game I try to keep it nice. Perhaps because I am not 100% serious about gaming. I'd be angry at myself if I ever raged or lashed out at someone in-game for exemple, it's just pixels and I don't even know the other guy.
I think when it comes to my play style, Pride doesn't play much of a role. I never wander the game world thumping my chest, singing my own praises about anything. When people ask me where I got whatever they're interested in I give the information freely and will even physically show them where/how. I don't particularly care about the best guilds, hell I rarely join one and I definitely don't tell people I "DING" every time I do. I play at my own pace. If that puts me ahead of people then so be it.
Greed wise, maybe just a little. There were times where I've undercut people when selling my stuff but this was more because of Wrath then the desire to sell my stuff over the other person. More on that later. I've given away more gold and more items throughout my decade of gaming then I can remember. I've never charged for ports/warps/summons and more often then not I don't take any tip that is offered, and I've escorted people that are going my way as well as the complete oposite way.
Lust I will admit might play a slightly more noticable role. I suppose I am guilty of having my ears perk up if I hear a woman talk, but I'm a guy and I like women... especially pretty ones.... oh and can't forget boobs too... However I've never made female characters to extort anything out of anybody and when I do make a female toon I tell anybody who thinks I'm a chick that I, in fact have a crank and they can cut the crap right there and then. I also don't make female toons because I'm sexually attracted to them. I make them because in my mind some classes better fit a certain gentder then others.
I'm not Envious either. Don't care what other people have. I've very rarely had the "cream of the crop" items in games and I'm ok with that. I don't belittle others or second guess my class and never race to top level. I get there at my own pace.
I'm definitely not Gluttonous. My friends list has maybe 6 people on it, like another poster said "Quality over Quantity". My inventory only houses the stuff I need to get the job done. All frill items and that nonsense are either left on the corpses or given to someone who actually puts them to use. I don't carry multiple weapons/armor/whatever. Only the basic stuff I need. The bank is usually empty unless it holds something I'm going to use in the near future.
Wrath... now we're talkin. I'm fairly easy going in games and take most things in stride. However if you persist on wronging me while getting repeated warnings you will undoubtedly suffer my FULL WRATH. If you purposefully try and corpse camp me you will regret it. I have way more time than you do, and I can do this for a lot longer and actually enjoy it! I will go above and beyond most measures to make sure that if in the future you even think of messing with me, or gettin on my bad side you that you get instant flashbacks of the little hell I've created for you on that one day. I didn't want to do it, but you pushed me and in return you diserved everything you got. Coincidentally, I've never done this with a rogue or roguelike character. I rarely play them anymore.
Sloth is definitely not me. I do what needs to be done, and I go in with the mindset to do my best because I'd rather not waste your as well as my own time. I don't ask for power leveling, and if I have to afk for more then a few minutes I will just log out all together. I have no problems putting in the time for whatever length is necessary and don't complain about it lasting longer then 30 minutes. I abhore online guides and would rather figure things out myself, and never use third party stuff to get me ahead, or do things for me. If that's the case, I might as well not play at all.
That's the way I see things in relation to how you had them laid out in your OP.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Wow that's a damn fine example of gaming playstyle. I chuckled at the part where you WRATH out on others. I'd hate to cross you in a FFA PvP setting.........lol

Originally posted by Ramonski7 Originally posted by MuffinStump Perhaps I am taking this out of the game world (and possibly context) but I view 'Sloth' as more of a product of interacting with the game itself rather than specific qualities within the game. In other words, I tend to view Sloth as the evil that creeps in when you devote time to the game that should likely be spent doing your job, spending time with your family and friends (or even pets for that matter) and enriching your life in other non-gaming ways. I enjoy gaming but I have also seen many people take the hobby to extremes and negatively impact other crucial areas of their lives. I suppose in some sense this could be considered Gluttony as well.
You got me there! That's why I threw in the little statement at the end of sloth. And yes you're right in your thinking that all who over-indulge in gaming are prime examples of sloth. But everything taking into moderation (including your gaming sessions) can still lead to sloth like behavior in-game. I was just trying to pertain the sins to in-game behaviors, not condemn our choice of hobby. But if you do then any hobby can be considered a conduit for sloth.
Yeah, I was just throwing out that out there not really trying to critique the original premise or rant about the hobby. I like the light tone and level of introspection involved in judging gaming habits via the 7 at any rate.
Although I do think applying the '7 deadly sins' to MMO developers might be interesting although as businesses they all fall into certain categories by definition
Originally posted by Ramonski7 Originally posted by MadnessRealm I chose none of the above. Pride, I'm happy when I level or anything, but I never consider myself "pro" or stuff like that. I'm really not into that "look at my rares, and I'm not telling you how to get them!". You pride yourself for not being too proud. I've rarely had that "greedy" moment, I tend to give A LOT of things for free (as to why...I don't know....I always have a terrible bank balance in MMOs I play). If I ever am too greedy, it's because I gave too much that I finally want to keep a little for myself. Some players you just give them a hand and they take your whole arm so got to be carefull with those :P You pride yourself of not being greedy and being helpful instead. Not really lustfull in MMOs. I actually hate it when players gets all exited because a female gamer just talk in ventrilo. It always shocked me as to how players always seem "suprised" and start to "hit" on her (aside from the jokes of course). You pride yourself on showing restraint in the presence of others. Envy, I always choose the class players don't play because it's too weak. I think a lot of players just don't want to bother getting better and prefer to choose the "EASY" button. But do I belittle others in-game because they chose that OP class? Not really, unless they start saying things like "lol I'm so pro, shut up you nub" to any player, then I might belittle him but that's not envy. You pride yourself in picking classes that present more challenge, rather than ease of play. Gluttony, my friendlist is usually very small. Quality over Quantity I say. Usually helpful with friends in-game. You pride yourself on sacrificing your time to help out friends in-game. Wrath, despite that fact that I really enjoy PvP, I see no point in trash talking or pissing off players until they log off (such as camping, etc). I'm usually the type of players to say "Good fight" or "I see you're having trouble, want some tips?" etc. Though if a player starts QQ or trash talking to the point of annoyance, then I might camp his ass....but only because he asked for it. Otherwise, I never camp, trash talk, grief, etc. I just don't get any fun out of it. You pride yourself enough to lash out when you believe you've been wronged. Not a Sloth either, I've never used gold/powerleveling services, I try to read quest text if the developers put some efforts in to it (So many games with ridiculous and pointless quests text while some other games actually do try and make a storyline, so I like to read those). I always read the guide book (like the book that comes with a boxed version of a game) before I jump in, etc. I'm usually the one helping rather than being helped. You pride yourself enough to actively avoid appearing lazy. I'm nowhere near perfect in-game, but none of those sins really represent how I interact with the game and it's community when I play.

That's not pride, that's ego. You are trying to relate self pride, which is like standing up for yourself when someone is being unfair or in your face, with false pride which is thinking you deserve everything good that you get. We really don't. Humility is the balancing factor in that equation and makes the self pride all the better when used correctly.
saying you have no sin is pride in itself I'd think, so I def have a sin for in-game. I would say we all do I little of everything in my opinion.
Greed is one for me, im always wanting more money, which leads to sloth, because im too lazy to actually go get it, which leads to wrath because I always get killed becasue I was too lazy to get the money to get enchants for my gear which then leads to envy becasue I want the good gear that I just got killed with. Now gluttony is more of a packrats sin, but we all show a little of it. I tend to save things for no reason.
And last but not least....lust. Now I used to be that way, not the freakout omg theres a female here, but I did lust, now that I have a beautiful girlfriend who I love I tend to not lust over that stuff anymore, not saying that I never did, but its not as much a focus in my life now that I have her, she kind of got me out of lusting in-game and out
I guess thats my 2 cents, its the best way I could put it Thanks for the thread though, was a good read and I like the idea behind it

And thanks for another insightful viewpoint. I agree we all show a little of the 7 when we game. We may not catch all the exact moments but they are all still there. It would be awesome if a game had a meter for every sin and with every behavior linked to that sin it would add to that bar. Now what would happen upon filling up that bar could be left to the imagination.....

-Madimorga-
All the none votes can be counted toward Pride. Of the sins, it's the pussiest.
I kill other players because they're smarter than AI, sometimes.
Wow that's a damn fine example of gaming playstyle. I chuckled at the part where you WRATH out on others. I'd hate to cross you in a FFA PvP setting.........lol

So Confucius says....
Seems the other way around to me.
A tiny mind is a tidy mind...
saying you have no sin is pride in itself I'd think, so I def have a sin for in-game.
