So I got stupid and got hacked and now becuse Blizzard has made me use

my email address I get email from fake blizzard trying to get my info again. I've emailed

the great giant and no responce.  The hackers have now started to by items using most likely

stolen credit cards and my email.

I try to call Blizzard to inform them and the multi million $ giant dosen't even have enough people to answer there

phones. This is bs I'll never buy another product from them and hope none of you do either. Not that the normal

peon like I matter but they just lost 4 accounts and I will never let this down. Blizzard and there reall ID is the

most dumb and makes people so vonerable its scary. There is the saying feed the troll ... well Blizzard has just

fead the hackers.

  • ran30justran30just Member Posts: 13

Hmmm? well thats just it I now have to change my email. I also have to change it

with everything and everybody that I work with. So ya becuse Blizzard came up with the great

Idea to make me use my email as my log in now I have to tell everyone I work with I have  a new

email becuse I got hacked playing a vedio game. If I was new to the game I would have as I do now

use an alternate email however that wasn't allowed and when I signed up I used my everyday email.

Dude. No you don't. You keep the same email for everything else and make a brand new email JUST for your WoW account. That's what I did and it's worked wonders. Plus, when you start to see all the fake blizzard emails still going to the "old" email and not the new one, you know it's working. Give it a shot.

Any idea ultimately how they hacked into your accounts?  I'm not being a wise guy, just curious, always looking to be vigilant when it comes to security.

Way to give up and show your kids how to correct and protect themselves from online crimminals! I also have a separate email for my WoW account from my generic email and I get at least 3 emails a week saying that my accoun t has been compromised...If the crimminals get slick, it's time for you to get slicker.

I must say I have deactivated WoW many years ago...and recently when I purchased SC2 I tried to log into bnet and found my account was very recently hacked while it was inactivated.  Yes, blizzard was helpful after 1 hour of waiting on the phone....but the sick part is that the guy was very cocky/confident about knowing how I got hacked.  He said he can ask me a series of questions and figure it out.  Well guess what - I'm a software developer full time and work with web applications.  I know about security...I have never even opened an email out of curiousity at work.  I didn't share my info and don't use the same username/password for anything else.

So while the spelling of the OP and raging might cause some people to look down upon the situation...I can tell you he does have a right to be upset!  I found it absolutely ridiculous that hackers can activate a de-activated subscription without my CC.  I was forced to get a stupid authenticator for my droid just to log into SC2 now and I'm not even following up about the stolen WoW items because I don't care that much.  However, I think the hackers did buy me WoTLK expansion lol.  Enough for now, just thought I'd share my story!  You dont have to be an idiot to be hacked in WoW.  I have never got hacked in any other game except when I was around 13 years old and played UO with ICQ in the background.  I did get revenge and was able to "hack back" so to speak.  Anyways, I'm sure it's because WoW is mainstream etc.

I get emails all the time on the email I use for sites such as this, but never on the email I used for my battle.net account.  Isn't that weird?!

Nope, not weird at all, because I'm pretty sure it's gaming sites that are selling our email addys or just not securing them properly (not blaming this one specifically as I actually just registered on this one). I've had a Blizzard account for years and never got hacked. Still not hacked (as far as I know, the account has been deactivated for over 6 months), but I've noticed that recently I have been getting alot of phishing emails. This only started about 8 weeks ago, the same time I began joining some gamer sites/forums.  Now I get at least 1 a day, not only regarding my Blizzard account but also regarding NCSoft, SOE, and some other one I can't remember. Well I never had an SOE account so that one was obvious general gamer phishing.

I look up the headers on the email and they are from different addresses each time, mostly hotmail. Sorry but, in all the years I've been gaming I have never once received these types of phishing emails until I started registering with "other" forums (what I mean by other is non-game official forums). Coincidence? I think not. All I know is now all gaming forums get an alternate email address from me.

Just to echo what others are saying.  My battle.net email has never gotten one spam email.  I only use it for wow and nothing else.

My other email accounts catch all sorts of crap including tons of phishing emails for wow, aion and other mmos.  Even for games I have never owned.

The original post looks like it was cut/pasted from an email and the formatting got all messed up.  Looks like a weak attempt at astroturfing.

Not really sure. I quit in Aug. 09 then in Dec. 09 got a 10 day free return to wow. At that time it

required me to convert to battle net , I did.  Then in jul. 10 tried to access my account and it was hacked.

They paid for  my account on Jul. 8th with a stolen credit card I found out today. When I was in

process of getting my acount back I told them I didn't make that payment but they have locked my account

today. So thats why I'm upset at Blizzard. They new it wasn't paid for by me they only gave me 11 min per char.

before requiring payment. I paid with my credit card  and then a week later  they locked my account and It

takes for ever to get a responce by email and impossible to reach by phone.

switching over to email logins and battlenet for use between all blizzard games is the stupidest thing i've seen as billing management or even game/login management goes. Now people dont need to your username, they just use your email which is much easier to get a hold of. I'm gonna agree with the OP here. Had my account hacked after the Bnet change (and i wasnt even subscribed ... or doing anything blizzard related). Got ahold of customer support, just to get the account hacked again, now its banned and i have no plans of trying to get it back again.... even before the hack, so it wasnt a total loss but it was an annoyance.

You have no one else to blame but your self. And no you did not get hacked you just fell for scam cause your well you know.

Someone just got into my account and I never click on links.  I got an e-mail from blizzard saying that my email and password etc were changed today.  I exited the email and went to the blizzard login myself and there it was.

The truth is that having them use the email for the log-in was the dumbest thing I have ever seen.  Give me your e-mail and see how long your accounts lasts.  If someone wants to take your account they can.

The only solution is what the other person said. . make an email just for WoW. . since I have not played since the change over I didn't bother.  Not sure I care that my account is banned but it still bothers me and doesn't make the system less stupid.

If you know so much a bout security you might know that once you have the login of the user. . the password is the easy part.  Maybe the OP did something wrong but your response is a little unwarranted.

I never had a Wow account and still get those mails so you can get them anyways.

But the real problem anyways is answering those mails, just ignore anything that want you to log on anywhere except in the game and you'll be fine and never give away your password to anyone including "Blizzard".

Not true unfortunately.  It just happened to me as I posted.  I never entered the password anywhere and do not ever click on links in e-mail.  I call the person or go to the web page myself.  Still.  Someone with enough time will try every email and password combination.  I never bought gold, never clicked on a link and do not use the same password and log in for anything else.

Thanks to all who've posted.  It makes me crazy to think that these

criminals can get access to our emails so easy. My frustration is with

the fact I don't even understand why Blizzard needed to link any personal info

to the front lines on the war on hakcers. To me it really seems like they might

not have the best people running the show anymore. I don't see how the Blizzard

think tank could have came up with this as a good idea. I don't even see any benefit

for them by bringing real id to there user id.  What dose it do? Save the time of

there employee's having to look up our emails in our accounts or ask for them.

I really hope this dosn't become the norm, as my hands these days are just not

able to use concel game controls.

Wow is the most popular mmo.... therefore, it is subject to the most attacks!

    Simple logic.

Why would hackers/phishers spend their time working a lower rate game/service with a lower return?

Security on the net is not to be taken lightly.  If you're capable of running an mmo... you should be capable of protecting yourself.  If they actually cracked into the blizzard database and pulled your information out, shame on blizzard... that's just not the case in this scenario.

User error... nothing to see here... move along.

Yeah I just read an article on 12 vs. 11 and 13 char passwords.  My passwords are all fairly long and contain capitals, numbers and odd characters if permitted.  What bothers me is when they limit you to 8-12 chars and no odd characters.  That makes it that much easier for someone to use a dictionairy style attack etc.  My wow password I would have considered Strong although not very stong.  Like I said I have not played in a long long time so I never bothered.  Still don't get why they would go that route and then on top of it they wanted to use peoples real names in their forum. . they might as well invite identity theft on all of their subscribers.
