  • If you don't like two factions play guildwars 2.  If all you care for is 40k then you'll love it.  BUT, WHAT THE F$#@ IS UP WITH THE RECYCLED CONTENT FROM DAWN OF WAR 2 DOING HERE?  comon wtf guys

  • FortencFortenc Member Posts: 427

Not quite as good as their first trailer and some recycled stuff.. aww...

Plus, was this really necessary?  We already knew the Imperium of Man was in there from the first trailer.. so nothing new...

    Oh well.

Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.

So I waited till gamescom to get more info and all I got was the announcement of something that almost any warhammer 40k fan was sure of being in the game, also clearly traveling through the warp is a set thing which you have to do with the same space ship over and over seeing as they just stole that from dow 2 or seeing as it's THQ they recycled it.

The way I look at it is these guys arent the owners of the IP but really they are the next best thing.  The nearly have free reign of one of the most exiting IPs out there and now they are turning it into an mmo.  And with them stating they have no real time constraints cuz THQ isnt rushing Vigil at all so they really do have the potential to do this thing right.  With that being said I also belive being this early in the game they have a bit of an excuse to release some conry stuff, recycled scenes and what not.  I will bet in another year they will be releasing vids that are much cleaner and original without the recycled mess.  They have the opportunity to be great but at the same time they can screw it up.  Ima give them the benefit of the doubt right now give it a little while see what they have to offer then, if its the same kinda stuff thats when im going to get worried.

W40k isn't about 2 factions, its about multiple factions fighting against each other with no truce in sight.  Also I don't care for recycled stuff as long as it plays good

Yeah I found it right before you replied. Still even with that said I'm still interested.

Although, this little bit caused me to raise an eyebrow:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tim Campbell: We're going to have two overall factions in the game, and all of the playable races are going to fit into one or the other.

There are compelling reasons why that works in this situation and our game, and Games Workshops are completely on board with it so we're not doing anything that violates the IP or the fiction – the details though will be revealed in the near future.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Curious to see how exactly they are going to make this fit up with lore.

Games Workshop guards their IP with an "iron fist" if they allow it into their lore then it fits regardless of what you or I feel about it.

Curious to see how exactly they are going to make this fit up with lore.

    1. The factions are creating a temporary alliance per say cause they share their point of view on what should happen to the thing they're fighing for.

2.You might not notice but time doesn't move foward in mmos, think about it.

    3. They might just be trying to make the game fun,god forbid them for making something fun cause the lore-whores think it's wrong for a space marine to look at an eldar without pointing a weapon at him,you know what,no one bloody cares, you don't see people complaining cause people were having a FUN tabletop game with space marines+tau against dark eldar and sisters of battle.

And no,warhammer age of reckoning didn't fail because it only had 2 factions.

I'm not certain why you went ultra defensive, but ok allow me to respond:

    1. The factions are creating a temporary alliance per say cause they share their point of view on what should happen to the thing they're fighing for.

I am a pretty big WH40k nut, and I am well aware that plenty of times in lore there have been temporary alliances on the small scale to destroy a greater foe; however WHO allies with WHO is a huge issue that I hope they get right. For instance: Ultramarines may very well have a cease fire with Eldar for a time to fight Chaos, however IG would NOT. The Space Marines for the most part do not follow the laws of the Inquisition, the IG do.

2.You might not notice but time doesn't move foward in mmos, think about it.

No clue what your getting at here, but yeah sure in most cases it doesn't.... I'm not sure why that was important?

I never once said the game couldn't be fun? I am once again uncertain as to why you decided I had insulted your grandmother and became super defensive. If half the "lore-nuts" knew anything they would know that on small scale alliances happen quite often, even if both parties aren't mutually aware at times.

And no,warhammer age of reckoning didn't fail because it only had 2 factions.

No, it failed due to poor implementation and bad planning... But what if anything does that have to do with my post? Maybe a bit of anger management would do you wonders, would be very good for your blood pressure for certain.

From everything i read about the game and how they stated some things ( like when talking about ALL races fitting into two factions for purposes of the story) it seems like they are going for  this right here.. the temporary alliance thing.

Which is why they showed the humans trailer.. they are probably not a faction  as it stands in the game but a race inside one of the factions. They released them first because they are easly the most obvious to everyone thats going to be in the game so its just putting there part of the story up early. Like everyone been commenting already this is something already know everybody saw them allready so why hold off putting it out.

im guessing each race is gonna have its own trailer that probalby end up telling the story of how the alliences form as the trailers release

I challenged my reflection to a staring contest....4 days later i won

I mean, it was pretty obvious that The Imperium of Man would be one of the factions. It wouldn't make sense otherwise. I really hope that Orks would be a playable race. The Eldar would be cool too.

Especially since the other faction will probably be Chaos and will have the mirror image, evil versions of the Imperium classes.

The game would be fine with 3 factions. 2 factions is too little, not to mention played out.

Why make a WH40k game if you just trash the lore? Make a "cosmos warriors VS space orcs" game and nobody will say anything about it (YOU make the lore, YOU decide how many factions are there etc.). If the lore exists, you have to respect it. You can't just put a few WH40k armor and weapon skins and say "yay we made WH40k MMO".

Couldn't care if there was 2 factions or 20, only thing that matters is a game that works. Games Workshop will not let the lore get raped so as long as the game is made right the number of factions that are in the game is trivial.

That said if I had any input I personally woulda preferred more than 2 factions, my preference would have been for 3-4 as the best MMO I personally ever played for pvp/rvr was daoc. My fondess memories in any mmo are of seeing huge battles between 2 of the realms/factions in daoc then hitting them both from the side when they're fully engaged with the 3rd faction. I'd love to be able to do something like that again in a new big game like this no doubt will become...  but, as I said I don't really care about things like faction numbers as long as they get this game right. I really hope that a game with this much potential that is promising alot of cool features does not go the way of WAR and flop.

I completely agree.  They have no right to just blatantly disreguard the lore like this.  If they wanted creative freedom, they should have just made their own damn game.  Even if there are occasional temporary alliances, it still doesnt happen that often, and theres really no excuse for that here.  They need to move on and do something new with mmos, instead of doing the same old broken shit over and over again.  This game is just WoW with guns. Period.  Theres nothing new or revolutionary here, its just the same game we've played thousands, and thousands of times before.  Except in space this time.  whoopidy doo.

Also, if you arent going to cater to the hardcore 40k fans FIRST, then you dont deserve to use the 40k license.  Those are the people who are gonna buy and support the game first, and if you piss those people off (which for the most part it seems like they already have), then your games not gonna survive.  I swear, its like every time they release information, they make the game sound so much worse.

Hmm, having more than 2 factions must be the Developer equivalent of making peace in the Middle East.

"Listen we can't have more than 2 factions because of the displacement of the Dark Age of Camelot developers.  Without them we are lost as a people."

2 factions isn't nearly as huge a problem as some make it out to be.

With proper background tyranids and imperial guard could ally ( by way of genestealers in the IG high command of the local planet the battle is taking place )

Alliance doesn't mean that the 2 races go out to drink beer together after every battle while exploring the possibilities of interracial romantic relationships.

It just means that there's a temporary cease fire and agreement to shoot the other alliance instead of each other. If a space marine, tau and tyranid meet I fully expect both the space marine and tau to first blow the tyranid to bits and only then turn upon each other. The alliances in the game should be much the same.

This game could possibly be the best mmo ever due to the lore but 2 factions?!

I know there are lots of posts about this but c'mon?! 3 factions at least is a must! If the only 2 factions are the Imperium and their Chaos counterparts i will be very dissapointed with this game also if there are alliances which pay no attention to the lore.
