wow so policing the forums and asking people to actually think about what they are saying before it is said /typed .what a novel idea..............

About time people are asked to actually give thought to something instead of LULZ I can haz trolls in game cause it doesn't matter as I have no accountability. more communities would be beter off with policies like this on the net if you ask me.

I am all for freedom of speech but that does not give one the right to be a douchebag period.

This is al in context of a PROPERLY moderated system and not a bunch of power hungery Forum mods banning whome ever they dont like of course......

    No, it doesn't.

But with the rules written in regard to banning contradicting themselves in the same paragraphs, it does give the right for anyone being banned ( legitimately earned or not ) to get any money they spent back, which will costs Warner Brothers more money than just the money being returned, it will also costs them the fines associated with getting a high number of chargebacks and possible removal of the ability to accept any credit cards for LotRO.

I have no problem with them banning anyone, lifetime or not, if they deserve it. But their rules provide for two important things they shouldn't:

1.) a person can be banned simply because the mod decides they should be banned regardless if the person doesn't even have an infraction

2.) supposedly "expired" infractions suddenly aren't "expired" if they want to use them to ban you.

They simply need to clean the new rules up if they want to avoid hassles in the future.

Either they use an infraction system, or they use a moderators choice system. Both don't work together.

Also, does this apply to both the forums and ingame?

Because if you get banned from the game from having 10 infractions on the forums, that's easy enough to get a chargeback also, as they could have simply banned your forum account while leaving your game account active.

The only type of person I could see reading it this way (by the way those rules are almost exactly the same as they have ALWAYS been, there are just a couple minor changes like 10 infractions = perma ban. Technically before you could keep waiting for the points to expire then get more infractions then wait then more infractions etc. Although they'd usually ban you at some point during that anyway) is someone who breaks rules and gets mad when they get punished. There is nothing wrong with this system, and as I said it is nearly identical to the one that has always been there and has worked for years (it's the same system as their AC forums have had since they seperated from Microsoft).

The only person who would have paranoia and think Turbine is changing this so they can get people, is someone who breaks every CoC he comes into contact with.

Ummmm what happens if a patch bug, power surge, or just a really bored hacker decideds to see how many accounts he can get auto banned.

Not to mention I have an infraction on my account already because someone got angry at me and start cussing me out, so because I was part of the issue even though I made zero comments and did nothing wrong my name was still in this guys rant in chat we both got infractions.

    Moderators are dangerous.

Also slightly concerned this just may be a tactic to get rid of those lifetime accounts that turbine is now losing money on.

This is why people should be more clear in their original posts because people who don't use whatever the original post is about will not fully understand.

It isn't that a computer somewhere takes in posts and spits out infractions. If you've ever been infracted on one of their sites you'd see it works as follow. You break a rule in a post. They decide to give you an infraction. They have a list they choose from which has the dialog that comes to you already in it and how many points it's worth. They click it and you get a pm and an infraction.

I don't read it as them switching from this system, and that is what I read as the automatic part. I don't think they've changed to some NSA super computer that searches for key words and drops infractions on people.

The reason they leave in the part of being able to hand out bans as necessary is because there is a difference between swearing once or twice in your post and them infracting you and you creating a post full of the worst hate speech about killing racial groups etc that is a page long. Obviously on the second issue they are just going to click perma-ban and be done with you.

They dinged him multiple times over two days to finally ban him forever.  He is a great guy in his 50s who loves the game and the community and is honestly very laid back person in general. There is no doubt in my mind that they are using this to quiet disent on their forums as well as keep the F2P crowd in check.

If you really believe that he made a single post that used the word crazy and got perma-banned, then you are the crazy one.

I can basically guarantee what really happened is he was trolling on every thread where anyone was saying anything positive about F2P. He was likely insulting all the users who disagreed with him and ignoring the infractions he was getting. So after he continued to do so he got enough infractions to be banned.

The stories of "I did absolutly nothing wrong and got banned" are never true. Having played Asheron's Call for a long time, and currently playing it. Along with having played LotRO. I can say that they let people disagree with their decisions publicly on the forums all day long, as long as the person does it within the rules. So if someone says I hate idea X and here's why, then they do nothing. If the person instead says "That is a fucking stupid idea and you're all morons" it gets deleted, just as if you said that to another player. They tend to be very fair about letting people publicly disagree with them on their forums. Go to the Asheron's Call forums and look at the current discussions about some future changes coming to the game. There is one guy who made a whole new thread about it where he replied to ever person who disagreed with him that the decision was wrong. So in one thread he has at least 12-15 posts saying the decision is wrong and other players are wrong. All of his posts remain because he didn't resort to name calling or trolling.

Well honestly I do not see why a user should even get like 10 infraction points on their account. I mean within 4 years I only got 1 warning on my world of warcraft account for using the 4 letter word in open chat. getting 10 points is like yelling that world 10 times in open chat in front of a GM.

But honestly if you ask me, all Turbine games suck. The graphics on LOTR are outdated, the armors are not anywhere near good, and the game in general just blows I dont see how a user could play any of their games. Same goes for Dragons and Dungeons I just dont like the gameplay its really boring, the maps in game suck, and the graphics armor wise is really bad compared to Kabod, or  APB. So that is why I refuse to play a Turbine MMO game.

well yea but for the reason that some people dont succeed irl they come to mmorpg's to hang out. i like it, its like saying: if it doesnt get too much, we or the community can deal with it. it's pretty good as well to set borders for somebody.

however 10 infractions is a lot for a lvl 10 "loltrollhobbit"...and that's where i think it should be up to the community...but if some guy has a temper problem the forums can actually be a good way to spit his angriness. i dont know about here, but in wow people used  to say "take it out on the forums so people get a bit time to cooldown/not to be too offended. :)

I guess if you actually read what I wrote I wouldnt have gotten your "copy pasta" response.  He got a 4 point infraction for calling someone point, and I quote, "Crazy". You can believe all you want.  That is the truth. And yes Turbine USED to be fair about dissent but things have changed. Its their forum to do with what they want to really, but for you to be naive enough to think that when companies make controversial moves that they dont snip out very vocal posters that voice dissent than you have your head in the sand.

Did he say worse things before, or manipulate people or anything thelike? Or did he spam or something?

This may have been "the last drop that flooded the bucket". Maybe the guy just works on people's nerves. And yeah maybe there's a person working for Turbine not doing his job. But if this happened continuously people would rather believe you then saying it isn't true. ;)
