If u have played CoH, then you should know that a Tanker can run into a huge mob without a scratch (only certain Power sets can, and at a certain lvl), i was wondering if the Guardian in EQ2 was similar to that and how it was similar...
I also would like to know that when a person lvl's up, do they get to choose a power? or are they given one each lvl, or given one every 3 lvl's etc...
Thanks in Advanced

No, EQ2 is a lot harder.
There's no class in really any other MMORPG which can stand there like a Tanker in CoH (especially with Unyielding Stance). Mind you, the "tanker" classes can take ALOT more punishment in EQ2 than let's say a Mage or a Scout can due to the ability to wear better armor and have more hit points. They also get great "taunt" abilities to piss off the mobs and hold aggro while the healers just keep pumping them full of hit points.
So in one way, they are similar to the Tanker in CoH in that they are responsible for keeping the mobs focused on them so they take the brunt of the attacks, but in another way they are different because they can't basically stand there and take no damage.
They get abilities at certain points. When you level up you usually get 1 new ability, but you may get another 1/3 or 1/2 way through the level. Every class gets the same abilities at the same time. All new abilities come as "Apprentice I" abilities. However, you can increase the effectiveness of your abilities by scribing higher level versions like "Apprentice II", "Apprentice III", "Adept I", or even one of the "Master I" lines of scrolls. Also, at certain levels you'll get choices of racial traits which could augment the abilities you get in your class. For instance, Scouts get Tracking, but at a certain level, Kerran classes can increase their tracking abilitiy by taking the Kerran Racial Trait which makes their tracking more effective.
Hope this provides the information you were looking for.
Tankers in CoH were overpowered on defense and underpowered on offense. You could stand in the middle of a group of mobs without taking a scratch, but your opponents could stand up to your paltry blows with as much impunity. The tanks in EQ2 are more balanced. You can take more hits than the other classes, but you won't last forever. On the other hand, you can deal a fair amount of damage yourself. It's more satisfying IMHO.
I think then tanks in EQ2 are really well balanced. In short, the tanks in EQ2 do what they are supposed to be able to do.
Thnx dsorrent, that helps a lot...
