I love Darkfall Online and currently only MMO I'm subscribed to.
I've played pretty much all of them.
I read a lot of threads here by players who dislike Darkfall and stick around for months, even over a year for many, yet often appear to dislike a great many games and rarely do they say what game they play and enjoy. At times one has to wonder if some who post at MMORPG actaully enjoy MMORPG's.
So for all DFO and non-DFO players, what MMO(s) are you currently playing ?

I was looking for something to play until FFXIV comes out and decided to give DFO a try. I love it so far!!! I might even wait until next March to start FFXIV because of this game... Wife and RL friends are all waiting for PS3 version, and I don't really want to start without them but I've already got the CE preordered... With what I've seen so far though, DFO could quite possibly hold me over until then!!
I've tried and subscribed to many games in my life so far. The first one I enjoyed was SWG (at launch). I didn't play through all the end game content before I moved on to FFXI. I loved FFXI, but it was to hard to play it casually and frustrating to party with people who couldn't speak english, would have enjoyed it more if I spoken Japanese. The next mmorpg I really enjoyed was WoW at launch.
From then on WoW was the mmorpg I played for the next 5 years lol.
Now i'm currently not playing any mmorpgs and waiting for FFXIV. Maybe longer for ps3 release.
Lotro is the game I spent the most time in, 3 years, EQ2 and WOW got into my free time for awhile as well. Tried DDO, War, AOC, STO, GW and did the Aion beta. Playing single player games right now and have started delving into table top games a bit with the Talisman boardgame and Star Wars The Clone Wars two player starter game. Watching RIft and to a lesser extent SWTOR to see what they bring to the table.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
Played WoW for a few years. Then got back into competitive FPS's. Then when I got tired of that, I jumped into DF after my stint in Japan.
Currently playing nothing. I'm tempted to dabble with EVE again until I can get a good rig to run DF. Right now I've got too many big expenses that are more important than a new gaming rig.
EDIT: Nothing isn't quite right. I'm playing Fallout 3 atm and loving it.
Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN
Playing currently:
EverQuest II
World of Warcraft
I would try out a few more games but my PC is getting old & wouldn't handle many of the later ones, Darkfall, Age of Conan and a few others.
I am a lifer at LotRO. It provides me with my occasional PvE fix, and I thoroughly enjoy the general mood of the game. Just riding a horse in the Shire can make a bad day a little less gloomier.
I occasionally play EVE, Fallen Earth and Warhammer Online, each for a different reason.
Thanks for the replies. Sad to find what I expected though, a certain number of regular people on this DFO forum that don't play DFO and regularly complain about it failed to share what game, "if any" they actually do play & like. Oh well.
Re: Final Fantasy - Yea, the new one coming looks like a very cool PVE game. No doubt it will be better on the PC but looks like the hardware requirements are intense to run it well which makes the console version very attractive.
Re: EQII - Used to play and enjoy that game a lot. Interesting to see it go F2P along with LoTR.
One of the games in develpment I have my eye on that looks to be very cool is RIFT. If you aren't aware of it, may want to check it out.

I really did enjoy DF at the launch but soon had to step over AFK swimmers, duck flying ships and avoid bloodwalls in the player made cities. Considered going back due to the catNmouse excitment DF provides yet, unable to force myself into experincing another month of non-legit players. bummer really.
Doing free runs with War at the time but will have to sub to get to the meatNpotato part. Recently closed account with APB and went back to Fallen Earth. I have been eyeballing some of the upcoming games but, until I can find one that provides equal oppurtunity for all players, it will be jump-around-time for me.
seabeast - How far back are you talking because that sounds like early EU days. AFK swimming has been nurfed; flying ships don't exist and bloodwalls is ancient and long gone and not sure what you mean by "non-legit" players but you seem stuck in the past. Hope you find a game you like.

As stated, "I really did enjoy DF at the launch" if one is able to determine when launch was. Non-legit players, at least ibn my books, include the hacks for sale ($10-$25) obtained at various sites, bloodwalls may be ancient yet I fear new and imporved ways to increase stats. Throw in under-ground recon and speed hacks to boot. Non-legit players are those who gain power or abilities that have yet been...nurfed. Guess I could drop $1 to find out myself but hey, that is why I research a game on fourms before droppin bucks, maybe it is I who is ancient.
I took a break and got hooked on Fallen Earths crafting. After 2 months though I had enough. Its a good game but the bottom line is darkfall is better.

Right now LOTRO and COH. In the near future giving DCUO a shot. whenever TOR drops it is a must have and firmly in the category of "I'll try it sometime" is Guild Wars 2. And lastly in the category of "why haven't I tried either of there mmo's, awwww hell let me give it a shot" is FF whatever the hell number the mmo is.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
Im playing on the eq2 pvp server Nagafen, really looking forward to the shadowbane public test on the 27th. Now thats a pvp game. You cant name a game out there with more diversity in clases, you just cant.
Not playing any MMO since quitting Darkfall. Primarily playing StarCraft 2 at the moment and kicking ass...
Waiting for SWTOR/GW2/RIFT/TERA
Might resubscribe to EVE in the near future if I get bored with SC2.
NOTE: The majority of my posts related to Darkfall were made while I was actively subscribed and playing...
you gave up darkfall for EQ2 pvp? oh my! I quit EQ2 twice!

Ive played a few games that you have, Darkfall included. Darkfall is good, but at the moment its not good enough (at least for me), and wont be as long as the only reason for conflict is to have conflict. As theres no real resource competition (each player race can access the same resource types) there's no in world reason for conflict, its just raw player aggression with a world model that supports all race zerg alliances.
All that being said though Darkfal is improving, and they may one day resolve this little problem.
I currently am playing Entropia Universe. What it lacks in PvP it makes up for in raw world depth. I almost feel like I am playing UO again. But like any MMO it does get boring at times. I guess thats why we have legs though. So we can lift our butts out of our respective chairs and go do something else! :-)

I recently returned to Darkfall after going back to my main game, EVE. I currently have both subs running and quite honestly I'm really enjoying the variety of gaming I get to look forward to every night.
I still take a few nights every once in a while to enjoy Combat Arms or Battlefield Heroes to quench my FPS thirst.

Well, I am playing a few things. The only MMO I am currently paying for is City of Heroes with the new expansion. Been having oodles of fun with that. Playing this until DCUO comes out and then will give that a go.
Just dropped AOC which I love but just can't invest the time at high level to do the raids. They take at least 4 hours at a time.
Outside of that I am in a few betas of which I can talk about some. 1 is Lego Universe. It is amazingly fun for something that appeals to all ages. Also testing the Free to Play LOTRO. Same game but more or less testing the model. I like LOTRO still but don' love it.
Mainly though, I am playing some non-MMO games. Just got Elemental: War of Magic (which I beta tested too) and absolutely love it. Great successor to MOM (Masters of Magic). It is a turned based, fantasy strategy game by Stardock. Lots of options and customizable. Very fun.
Also played Kane and Lynch 2 on Onlive. Got a 3 day play pass and thankful I did instead of buying the game. Decently fun shooter but the single player is about 4 hours total and the story ends up going nowhere.
Waiting for:
Rifts, DCUO, and SW:TOR, then I will back in the MMO swing of things.
Playing EvE and WoW. Like them both for completely opposite reasons. Was looking forward to MO and enjoyed my time in beta, though it did get a bit frustrating at times. That said, I can't really justify the cost or time investment of another MMO sub and I didn't think MO was quite worth me dropping one of my current games yet. Maybe a little down the line. This is basically the same sentiment I have toward DF right now and I plan to look at it again in the future.
Really though, any game out there has some pretty stiff competition (for my money) as I consider EvE and WoW to be the tops of their respective game styles. Of course, I would be pretty happy if something came along that I considered to be better then either of them.

Right now, none. There is just nothing new out there.
I liked Lineage 2 on a pvp "focused" server, I believe it was my first MMO. I enjoyed UO on a pre-Trammel like server and it was fun with all freedom you had there.
Bah I even loved my 4-5 months long adventure with WoW in 2006 ( ? ), the game appealed to me with its interesting lore, atmosphere, polish and art style, until I got fed up with boring pve leveling, soulless quests and linear content which leads to non-existent Promised Land: The End Game. It was my first and last theme park MMO, apart of Warhammer which was a moment of foolishness on my part ( I am a fan of Warhammer )
Later was twenty and something minute long EVE adventure...I liked the concept but the spreadsheet execution is just not my cup of tea. I have to admit I had thoughts about giving it another try when I will get all old, boring and slow.
I liked Darkfall ( yes I did like it ! really ! ), I loved its sandbox concept which basically promised UO/EVE content with FPS like execution. I loved the beta and early launch, but it took really short time to realize that the game is hardly a sandbox. A lot of promised features have been scraped, another were implemented in really shallow way. It took me a month after the launch to realize that pvp loses its quality really fast with all that arms / grind race. As much I enjoyed pvp in beta and early launch, I just could stand WoW like concept in "the next generation pvp MMO" Do you want to pvp ? Grind in all ways possible, exploit bugged game mechanics, pve and between AFK gathering / macro sessions you MAY have some fun if just others to happen to not afk gather / macro in the same time. Even after grind and pve patches, the game didn't apeal to me. PvP requires from my point of view huge time investment pveing, gathering and basically doing all except those things I would like to do.
I love competiitve pvp in FPS games and they are free with much better pvp quality then a MMO. If AV really wants my sub money needs to provide me with a reasons to do it, some of these will be suficient:
- a persistent world ( check )
- deeper then the present conquest mode and more strategy elements ( taxes, resources wars, destroying trade lines etc )
- pvp without uneccessery time sinks ( of course excluding time sinks which are part of the full loot penelty )
- complex economy and resources system with local banking to actually give a true spark to policitical conflict between clans and introduce trade.
- trade which is a main reason why you risk your goods and live in caravans and ships not some kind of half-baked semi-solutions for content without use: Sea Towers and Trade Links.
- only one/two crafting profession available for players ( which all we know will never happen ) so people will more often consider BUYING goods from outside the clan.
- obtaining resources in a way which is more about fun ( maybe pvp and conquering villiages which give you access their mines, farms etc. ) and makes the world look alive and rational then as it is now: full of empty buildings, settlements, unuseble mines and ruins.
- pve which is as exciting as your first goblin, kobold encounter instead of grinding through 1000 HP and higher on every f... mob. PvE is just not fun beyond some of the starting mobs. AV in fact managed to answer a random question: How many arrows it takes to kill your pve kill fun.
- pve which affects you, your clan and players in the general: pve raiding player cities, villigies ( it is suppose to be in the next expansion ) and in fact if you fail to stop it, it will AFFECT your revenue ( taxes, ammount of resources available from mines, farms, wood yards etc ) or even make you to lose your city/villiege to pve faction.
Before any of you accuse me expecting something which no one delievered, AV yet to feel the game with any MMO content except massive pvp for those few player cities which are worth to fight for.
Yeah just in case some of you don't understand. I actually expect a game content which allows me to achieve something and have fun so delayed by grind character development will be no longer the core of the DF's game content.
Sorry the ONLY long lasting game content.
In case some of you forgot the basics:
A game is a competitive activity or sport in which players contend with each other according to a set of rules.
Nice post.
You and I share many of the same views and prior game experiences.
If you haven't played DFO since just after release, I urge you to try it again. A lot has changed and with the free 15 day trial I really think you owe it to yourself to take a spin and see what it feels like now.

For me:
City of Heroes
I have been playing City of Heroes since its beta and have never left = 6+ years.
