I just don't feel the drive that I had back when I was 9, playing Runescape... you know?
I just don't feel the need to play MMOs anymore like I wanted to. Everytime I get on an MMO, I'm just telling myself that "this is going to be so boring, don't grind" or "what's the point? You're not doing anything useful".
Has anyone felt like this? What should I do?

Simple answer, take a break.
Steam: Neph
Well the majority of mmos are basically all the same concept so yes it does get boring. The best thing to do is just take a break and maybe play some rpgs or fps games ? I have Starcraft 2 to get my gaming fix in when mmos are boring.
I experience the same thing sometimes. Maybe you should roleplay a little, like in your head and put less focus on doing chores and rushing to end game. I found the thought of WoW's endgame so depressing that I never really wanted to go there and since thats all there is to this game these days, I quit.
Go out to a bar and meet some real people?
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
Stop playing mmos?
There are lots of single player games out there that are really good. I'm currently in my non-mmo playing phase and am enjoying some of those other games out there.
Isn't it obvious? Do something else.
I have to admit I'm in agreement with some others, do something else.
Get in shape, work on your career, take up another hobby, play single player games, take classes, hang with real life friends, etc.
Whole world out there for you. It's open, persistent and massive and multiplayer!

I decided to try to learn the mandolin. I keep breaking the 1st E string and have a pesky buzz on the 1st A string.
As annoying and frustrating as this may be at times, it is a focal point to help me avoid the disease known as MMORPGs.
Seriously, the people suggesting a break - admit it - how many times have you taken a break, seen something in a blurb, decided to go back, and regretted that you resubscribed within 5-10 minutes of getting back into the game?
MMORPGs are broken at their core.
If you want to pay $15 a month for 3D chat set in your favorite IP, you might be golden...
...otherwise, meh.
Another suggestion is just to post here - lament about the old days, point out the glaring issues to the fanbois, and generally participate in the endless debates from the dawn of time that appear to require a new thread every couple of days...
...oh snap!
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
Explorer: 87%, Killer: 67%, Achiever: 27%, Socializer: 20%
Could not have said it better myself:)
It even has FFA PvP and perma death.

You either move on, play something old, play something new, or do some combination thereof.
Just a warning griefing in the real world will either get you arrested or elected!!!
But I agree with the others,if you have to force yourself to play a game thne it isn't worth it....go find something you are going to be enthusiastic about at least till sometihng comes out that catches your attnetion.
lol, words to live by!

Yep, this. Pick up something on the 360 or PS3. Grab Epic Mickey on the Wii when it hits. Leave games off completely and grab some sci-fi/fantasy books. Been hitting me lately as well. Getting hard to log into anything.
Lots of stuff on the horizon if you step back now, you could come into any of those with a rested and fresh perspective.
lol
Try the free game called " Dwarf's Fortress". It's a 2d strategy/rpg/citybuilding/simulation game that is deeper and more thoughtfully developed than any game I have ever played since the early 90's. It's that good.
The drawback to it is the developer doesn't care about graphics at all. He is only interested in creating the most immersive, wholly enveloping experience a gamer can have. Which is good.
Get the "Lazy noob pack" for dwarf fortress and watch some of the youtube videos on what it's all about and you will see what games are capable of becoming when a developer actually gives a crap about gameplay.
Lazy noob pack replaces almost all of the default ASCII graphics into something related closer with the simcity games. But you will see that the graphics don't matter at all once you start playing because the game is just raw fun. You can dig, explore, fight monsters, build a fortress, rig it with elaborate traps, grow a farm, create one of thousands of items and unique items and thats only the tip of the iceberg. Every creature in the game has emotional states and multiple hit areas/stats when attacked.
Read up on it and you will find a treasure hiding in an ugly container. You seem to be a deep thinker which is why you are so bored of all these garbage cash farms AKA MMO's of 2010.

Heh, dwarf fortress has better gameplay than 90% of the stuff released every year.
Move on until you feel the "press" to play one, I see this question so often and am only forced to wonder what makes a person "want" to desire to spend sometimes up to 5-8 hours a night playing one game. I enjoy the mmo's I am playing now so I have no problem with spending so much of my free time playing but I can honestly say when I don't feel the desire to play any of my games I'm happier for it because there is a large wide world out there for me to go and "play" in including other video games.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
HAHA I know, that's another reason I'm so disgusted at the games that have been released. The state of gaming has taken an obvious downturn for quite a while now. I realize that companies need to make cash to survive but all of these systems in these recent games that are designed to keep the subs/item shop money flowing instead of the fun flowing are making me want to hurl.
The sad part is Dwarf Fortress is made by 1 guy. 1 freaking guy is able to outthink/outprogram teams of people working on games that make millions of dollars a year. *shakes head in disgust.

I have been on a break myself for the past few months and honestly dont miss MMOs much at all now.
In my free time I now play some older single player games that I never got around to finishing, and trying out a couple of newer games that peak my interest.
Plus I have found that I am much more active and sociable when I dont play MMOs and stick with single player games .
I was thinking about trying out FF when it comes out next month, but with the release of several single player games I have been waiting on I am gonna pass. Maybe SW:TOR might be worth a look.
There is life after MMO's for sure lol.
Get a bunch of friends who dont care about the rat race (Step 1)
(Step 2) Go and enjoy the games for what they are play the game , not the muppets if you want to compete against players go play in an arena game not a persistant world.
(Step 3) Fallbacks
MUDs yes i know text based but the right ones are multi player a challenge and fun.
Get yourself a few emulators great back catalogues of games of all types some really challenging RPGs about
Get yourself a few hobbies which don't involve sitting in doors.
And we can go on and on...
I have a group i play everquest II with for a laugh on and off , lots of content to work through.
Also have a group that I play Vanguard on and off with
nothing serious , I have run large guilds , power leveled done the I wan't to be number one bit but thats easy. Finding a good group of friends where we have a laugh is what its all about these days.

Sorcery must persist, the future is the Citadel
If you are like me, you just are not stimulated by MMOs anymore.
It was great at first, wasn't? I found a great game that I could play with others, and had a lot of interesting things to do. It was available anytime, and it never ended! I remember playing some great single player games, and when I beat the game, I wished it did not have to end. MMOs try to fill that void.
I have not been able to get into an MMO for a while either. Most of them skip the "great game" phase and go straight for addictive repetitive tasks. The greats ones aren't so great after a few weeks.
At times like these, a saying comes to mind "All good things must end." Wishing for something not to end is one thing, but actually having it happen leads to boredom and apathy. So I have come to the conclusion that MMOs are a misquided wish to find a game that will be good forever.
All good things must end, which is actually what makes the memory of them great (btw, this is weak linkage, but I happened to think Barry Sanders retirement at the height of his career to be great).
