Champions Online: State of the Game for August

Champions Online Executive Producer Shannon Posniewski has published the latest State of the Game letter on the official site. In it, 'Poz' talks about Summer Update set to go live today boasting a bunch of new changes and enhancements including new emotes, a new difficulty setting and more. Posniewski also takes time to discuss the game's first anniversary coming on September 1, 2010.
In addition, September 1 is a special day for Champions Online: It's our first anniversary! In celebration, we're going to be holding a party in Millennium City from August 27 through September 6 - when the celebration ends with a bang. Stop by the new Renaissance Center to get gifts (costume pieces, water balloons, party bombs and more!) and have some fun with your fellow heroes. Let's hope Destroyer doesn't show up!
Also, if you have friends who would like to try Champions Online, they can play from September 1 to September 7 (at 3:00 a.m. Pacific) for free! (This is an unrestricted trial, not a demo.)
Poz also discusses the Demonflame adventure pack set to be released at the end of September or early October, a website overhaul and what's next for the game.

I wonder if old accounts can reactivate from September 1 - 7 as well. That would be nice as I find this game fun in short bursts.

Really enjoy this game. I'm hoping Demonflame is really good. SL was good but repetitive.

According to an email i got from them:
Over the past year, we’ve been working very hard to continually improve Champions Online, and we want to show the world what we’ve been up to. From September 1 through September 7, new and returning players can come and enjoy all of Champions Online for free. There will be no retail key or subscription required for this free trial. Players just need to sign up for a free Cryptic account and play! It's also a largely unrestricted trial, so newcomers can experience the entire game and play with friends (not just the limited Demo tutorial).
To sign up, just visit our Anniversary Event signup page starting August 27. Play begins on September 1, but we wanted to make sure you could preload the client."
This game is good only for solo play so they should make it F2P like DDO. No way is it worth a monthly fee.

Wow. It's really been a year since this game came out? I played a short time in the beginning, and a short time not too long ago. Both times I was really underwhelmed and unimpressed by the majority of the game, so I guess the lack of any real progress and growth is why I'm surprised it's been out that long.
And I only played for the first month of what I paid for; being a Trek fan, I shelled out something like $60 or $70 for the gauranteed Star Trek Online beta access.
Thanks, but I'll stick to City of Heroes and exploring all the new stuff involved with choosing sides in Going Rogue.
