Im curious what meaning was intended for the intro storyline. The ship you are on clearly sank in a storm, Then there you are on another one sailing into port in clear skies. Did you die and get resurrected? Was it all a dream?

The ship doesn't sink... o_o
After the large creature flew over the ship there was a brief view of the ship sinking. Ive watched it several times, it was definitely going down.
The ship never sunk. It just rode a big wave as the "leviathan" jumped over it. The whole mystery is what is the leviathan and what made it jump over the vessel. The following quest line hints at reasons and a myth. I can't wait for launch to continue the story.
Personally, I loved the little haunting woman singing when the Monster jumped the boat. Was very cool.
Yea the ship didn't sink, but the front of the ship did look like it was kinda going down... but the next scene it's clear it didn't sink.
I want to know what the other 2 intro's are personally
Interestingly enough, and regarding the "sinking"....
If you follow the main quest storyline long enough in beta, you are eventually told to go see the town Blacksmith to further the quest.
After you get done, the very last cutscene you witness is a conversation between the blacksmith (miquote) and some sea captain (Ro).
They are having a very heated argument when the captain remarks about how the ship she built for him "just sank to the bottom" of the sea. She responds with something like "you pay what you get for. You didnt give me enough money to build a dingy" or something like that.
The thing I found interesting regarding this was the Ro sea captain had one eye, just like the captain in the beginning intro. It made me wonder in-game WTH the guy was talking about because the ship my toon was on didn't sink.
Then I was wondering what were the odds of ANOTHER one-eyed Ro' sea captain in this forge at the very same time complaining his ship just sank.
Things that make you go "Hmmm"...
"TO MICHAEL!"
Those were two different people.
When you talk to Bodenolf and select Treasures of the Main, it cuts to Rostnsthal (this dude has a Eye Patch) rudely telling you to get out of the way. You walk out the door where Sthalmann, Captain of the ship you were on, (no eye patch, Red captainy looking outfit) and H'naanza (Blacksmith Guild Leader are having a convo about that Sea Serpent, when they notice you, Sthalmann tells you not to breath a word of what you just heard, about that time 3 people show up to tell Sthalmann about an attack.
You talk to H'naanza again to continue the quest, when you enter the Blacksmith area again you see Rostnsthal bitching to H'naanza about his boat sinking.
SPOILER***
The ship doesn't sink, the creature is a local legend said to guard a secret treasure on an Island that is blocked off and only accessed by the Knights of Barracuda or whatever, the musketeer/pirate guild of Limsa Lominsa. The Mi'Qote on board that saves you is after the treasure and it seems to be the main focus of the storyline.
I heard there might be time traveling or some such, hence the flashbacks to the fire in the sky or w/e, which seems to be a reappearing image in the e3 trailer.
Also the official site mentions something about "The echo" that connects people/things from different points in time somehow.
dunno, just speculating :P
This drove me a little crazy so I went back and booted the beta up for the sea voyage.
Turns out Sthalmann is actually ON the ship with the toon you start with. He is the guy with the gun and the axe killing the beasties.
I hadn't paid attention to the names and because he was wearing kind of regular gear on the boat, I didn't notice he upgraded into his full regalia on shore. It looked as if the other Ro was more suited to be a captain language wise and mannerisms than Sthalmann was, lol.
Just how many one-eyed Ro's missing left eyes are in this game anyways??
