Just went through a long and hard quest-line. Turned out when I got the reward loot, it said "Your current subscription level does not allow you to use this item".
EQ2 Extended getting uninstalled immediately!

Wow, nothing worse than a carrot on a stick that doesn't exist o_0
Why did you do the quest in the first place if it was something you couldn't use, ie. legendary or higher. You can see the reward before doing it.
At least when you subscribe you can use it. Its not like you got nothing at all.
I didn't do the quest for the loot, didn't even check what I would get. I did the quest for fun, but that all went away with that slap in the face at the end.
But you just said you didn't do the quest for the loot, and you were so untinterested in the outcome you didn't even LOOK at the final reward - you did it purely "for fun"... and having achieved your desired "fun", NOW you decide to complain about the reward??
Hardly logical, is it?
Horsecrap!
I too do quests for fun (as I'm sure most do in mmorpg/rpg games) and I'll even go so far as to not to see what rewards I get beforehand, just so I can be pleasantly surprised by what I get for my hard work.
Maybe you just do quests for just the rewards even if it's not "fun" for you. But a lot don't. And If this is how EQ2X does it then perhaps I too will be uninstalling the game. It's a shame really. Turbine seems to have a much better f2p system.
Hopefully SOE will change things a bit but I won't hold my breath... Oh well...
My thoughts exactly, thanks.
Getting the reward is part of the fun of the quest, regardless what it is and whether you checked before or not.
I've been playing this lately to try it out and see what it's like with the new item shop and all. I have to say that it overall seems far too restrictive about what you can and can't do with even a "Silver" level account when put side by side with comperable "freemium"/itemshop content games like LOTRO for instance. Plus the fact that you can't buy what I would consider crucial account ungrades without actually paying a monthly subscription. In my opinion they should allow you to buy smaller, piecemail upgrades in the item shop rather than the way it is now. I would be way more likely to buy little upgrades here and there (bag slots, races, classes, etc)...

It would be nice. In fact, I think eventually they will have those options. Really would be foolish not to considering if you piecemeal those types of things you're bound to have people fork out some cash for what they consider important to their gameplay.
This endeavour comes across to me as an: " Oh shit, we need to get this out before Turbine gets their Lord of the Rings project out the door!" Hence, they rushed it.
...or it could be more of let's see how much people are willing to pay from the get go and if we don't meet our expected quota we can consider piecemeal options down the road.

I actually resubbed to EQ2 a week before this was announced as I enjoy playing around and getting max out of my character(I had 23 AA at level 10, before I turned in a few collections to get to 14 to be able to complete quest again as they were all 14+, I cleared a ton of areas about 250 quest complete by that time)
So EQ2 extended would actually work perfect for me, if it offered some basic stuff, as it is now a sub is only worth it for when the game peaks my interest or inbetween games for some fun low-mid level play. I would gladly pay for content unlocks as long as I could use my equipment and spells. But as it stands, this current package really isn't that great and I wonder what they intend to actually gather from this as I feel it compared to Turbines models is an absolute joke.
See, maybe it's with being much older than the average MMO player, but my attitude to life in general is, if you've enjoyed the trip and the destination is a let-down, well hell, at least you had the nice trip getting there.
If I wasn't interested in the item, and just wanted the fun of the quest, as the OP says was his goal, why complain about the item? I usually do quests for the entertainment value, because more often than not in MMOs the reward item is usually not much better (if not being slightly worse) than the one I'm currently using. If the item is decent, that's simply a nice bonus, but nine times out of ten I do a quest KNOWING the item I am going to get is just going to be vendored, and I'm still happy about it.
This is ridiculous lol, why allow the player to start the quest if your going to deny him the reward. Makes no senses.
You're right, you should get a message before you get the quest saying... "Whoa hold up there gamer! Are you rapidly clicking through dialog text to accept this NPC's quest? Didn't you know that this quest is heroic with rewards you cannot use? You didn't subscribe, not very heroic of you, is it? Noo...
I cannot believe you asked this question with a straight face.
I tried liking everquest 2 but i couldnt, and it wasnt the game play it was the insane amount of restrictions, i decided i would reactivate my old account, but it wasnt the same, the free servers are pretty packed, and flowing with life, where as the old servers are all dead, also my character on the live server would cost 35 bucks to transfer over with NO items, no coin just the levels, what a rip off.
Would anyone pay for that? the whole point is to transfer over with all your stuff, not just the shell of your character.
So its pay the sub and play on a dead server, or play on the free version with more shackles around your neck, arms and legs tehn a prison...
I chose option C, playing champions online, im really enjoying it.

Crushbone seems fine to me. Certainly isn't packed to the extent of the "free" server but there's more than enough peeps running around.
As to paying a sub, I agree it is a ripoff on that new server. Seems fine on the regular server to me anyways though.
All the more power to enjoying CO. I cannot for the life of me get into that game. Baddass character creation though. About all that game had that I found entertaining. Even as aged as it is CoH is still a way better game imo.

CoH has been out for 7 years.. it has had way more time to iron itself out.

Iron things out? Not sure that's what the issue was for me. Simplay wasn't fun. Leveling in that game felt tedious and uninspiring. Plus, their attempts at humor in the game were lame as hell to me.
I don't expect a new game to have the amount of content as another one that has been out for years. I do expect a new game would have a lot more to offer in gameplay mechanics considering how much things have evolved yet CO felt like old news and rather simplistic from the word go.
About the only "innovative" thing they had were the public quests that frankly I thought were done much better in Warhammer.
...and that folks, will be one of the few times you will actually see me give a compliment to Warhammer Online.
I give you two months, tops, before you get completely bored with that game.

Coins are restricted too I think. I read somewhere recently that you can accumulate only so much money with a free acct.
Uninstalling as well.
IMO SOE should have added a pay per option on a monthly basis.A game that does this ,or at least they did was runes of magic. This way you pay for each extra bag slot, maybe add cost to be able to wear legendary armor or weapon or spell.3 bucks each sound about right?2 bucks for each bag slot,so +3 bags =5 total for 6 bucks and a posible 9 bucks more for the 3 options to use legendary. So you still have some limitations and get 15 bucks. At least it is reasonable not adding up to say 100 bucks a month, this way people can pay as they can afford it.Maybe another 2 bucks to use a mount?so a possible 17 bucks now and a player has a near complete game, but they always have the option to not pay the next month or maybe add 2 more bucks the next month for AA control.
The way SOE has done it ,is basically saying subscribe or suffer, not really a big incentive to keep players around.
If SOE had a REAL president running EQ2,he should be or have been working on housing for the last several years,a game that introduces housing will steal a lot of players from other games. There is TONS of barren space within the game,so it is quite doable.

The problem is NO ONE is going to subscribe on the free servers. You don't even get what you get on the live servers for the exact same subscription. If they want to nickel and dime us, fine, but open everything up under that process. But don't offer a subscription on the damn F2P server that's less than on live just to get necessary featuers like teh damn AH and quest items.
And the even larger problem is that all the live servers are ghost towns and they refuse to merge like they should have a couple years ago.
Really? I have subscribed, and almost everyone I know in game has also. You see on the extended server we get something that is unavailable on the live servers. OTHER PEOPLE. The live servers (yes even AB and Nagafen) are all solo to 90 without ever interacting with othe players. The extended server you can quest, and dungeons with other people at level. Really the only thing you don't get with an extended sub that you would get on live is all the races, but what do I get on extended that I don't get on live? I get to still play the game (albiet with restrictions) if I don't pay my $15 one month.

then sorry, but you are an idiot. You just paid more for what you allready had just to play with other people. Sony should be fixing these problems, not screwing their players into paying more for less. Ridiculous that you only get 4 races for the same sub price as live. the gold option on the "free" server should be 9.99, not the same as live for less. They are getting stupidly greedy and not to be insulting, but you are part of the problem, not the solution.
How exactly is sony supposed to fix the other players? They could merge every one of the live servers. The same issue would still be there. EVERYONE IS ALREADY MAX LEVEL. Hardly any of them are interested in doing older content. Yes, I get 4 races for the same price as a live sub. I also get the option of playing with less bag space if I don't pay the $15 gold sub one month. I don't get that on live. If I don't pay the $15 one month then I can't play at all there. I'm not sure how going with the option that works best for me makes me an idiot, but whatever.
