Ok, I never post. But do those SS remind anyone of SWG crafting system?
Actually, it doesn't.
What is missing? Stats on the materials, more specifically, variable stats on the materials.
If anything, it looks more like FE's crafting. And the crafting in that game, while better than many, was not up to the level of SWG.
One of the reasons that crafting in SWG was so good, is that the stats on the final product were variable, and more to the point, some crafters could "craft" better than others. Such people tended to take a lot of time playing the "resources mini-game" and were rewarded by being able to put out "better" products.
When the final product always comes out the same, in appearance and stats, i.e. a sword is a sword is a sword, it makes all crafting, and by extention, crafters the same. And that, is a bad thing for people that like to craft as a playstyle.
PvP, PvE and other combat players usually have their ways of "excelling" at their playstyle, Crafters should have that same opportunity.
You can produce better products, if you use better materials in Earthrise. But you have to make better materials yourself first, which are called compounds then.
The biggest problem for a crafter will be the availability of materials tho, as the best materials are only found in territorial warfare, so you need to be part of a bigger guild and then you're going to craft items for your guuild-members and ot the others.
There's no reason to make a name for yourself as a crafter.
That one sentence right there blew my mind....how could you even muster up enough courage to utter such nonsense. This is why progression through combat is such a crutch for mmorpgs. Why can't rpgs be about crafters, shop owners and merchants. Do we always have to be swinging a laserblade, long sword or crowbar?
One of my favorite memories of SWG (pre-NGE) was this crafter who went by the name of Fish. My buddy and I still have fond memories of running out to his place to pick up the latest Fish blasters. I mean sure you could pick up a generic blaster from some joe shmoe crafter that knew nothing about the art of crafting. Or you could spend a few credits more to obtain a highly desired Fish crafted blaster. And believe me, he was sold out as quickly as he could make them.
Also his place showed the amount of credits he was hauling in. And not only did he craft the best blasters, he even delivered if you needed him to. No reason to make a name for yourself as a crafters....pffft...utter nonsense I tell ya!
The crafting-system in Earthrise is different tho and every item is going to be exactly the same, if you use the same materials and components, which are determined by the blueprints, no matter how good of a crafter you are. You have only a chance to influence the quality by using better materials, eg. durability of an item, but not the stats, and this is still the same for every crafter.
If crafter A, B and C craft their items with the same materials and skill-levels, then all the items crafted are exactly the same.
That's why there's no reason in Earthrise to make a name for yoyurself.
No, this is not true at all... They have stated that there will not be two gears exactly alike. Their is a random factor to crafting you can use the exact same material and everything yet the stats will be different.
There was only ever talking about a possible chance to increase the quality (durability), but I wouldn't call that a stat tbh.
And using two different sets of materials and components is not what we're talking about, but we're talking about different stats allthough all crafters use the same materials and components to begin with.
If I use gold instead of copper it's not exactly surprising, that I'll get better stats, like better conductivity.
Thus that is why there will be a need to make a name for yourself. As rare materials will be hard to obtain, or your items tend to be more higher in quality, you make parts that are harder to find or make, etc.... These are all viable reasons due largely to the fact of being able to obtain such items and also will be largely dependent on territorial warfare. Some guilds will be the only guilds able to make a higher quality version of a certain item/gear/weapon.

Uhm, no. There's still no need to make a name for yourself, because you can craft better. You can only produce the same items cheaper until another guild gets their hands on the same ressources and sells them for the same price.
It has nothing to do with your skills as a crafter.
EDIT: As a person who played SWG's crafting game a lot and a person who has been following Earthrise for a long time:
Do I think crafting in Earthrise will be equal or better than SWG? No.
Do I think it will be better than a majority of MMO's? Yes.
Do I think it will be fun? Yes.
That's about what I figured, SWG was the rare game that the crafting was good enough that people could be fully satisfied doing just that. Doesn't seem to be the case here, or, really an option as they have things laid out.
I might play a beta or trial to check it out, but I have learned my lesson about throwing down cash from the go for a MMO.
Too much hype leading up to a release, and too few games that live up to it.
I can tell you from experience I was truly satisfied just crafting in SWG, having 3 accounts checking SWGCraft ever other day for a new report of a decent spawn of high quality materials then using 5 of my characters to drop harvesters down alot of the time though I would just go out and just run the planet manually looking for spawns along with my other account running as I had him on follow and auto attack in case NPCs jumped on us plus I used my mule to drop harvesters in case I hit a jackpot spawn and lay claim to the area first I miss those days right towards the end before I quit for good the only crafting I did was armor and weapons when they made crafted weapons viable again back in 07 I even did some crafting for myself took a acid launcher cannon that you got from the Avatar Platform and deconstructed it and put it back together with some of my most coveted resources that weapon was a extremely rare drop and I had a quite of a few of them since I farmed up there a lot.
Being a crafter in a game that makes it unique enough to truly stand out from everyone else is extremely rare I long for that type of game again hell I would be still playing SWG if they didnt push that TCG loot and take away from crafter's requests plus the zombies and pink ewoks didnt help either, still have everything I own and earned in game and it will sit there till $OE's kills SWG finally.

I have been reading your posts.. And every time you come to the conclusion "There is no reason to make name for yourself", I don't get it anymore.
You named EvE Online as a example. About how there is no reason to make name for yourself because all the items are the same? Well you are wrong. I have been playing EvE quite on time in the industry side ofthe game. Sure, if you want to be a small crafter, there is no reason to get involved in promotion and getting your name out. But if you want to do the big stuff, you need to get your name out to other corperations and alliances.. I have been in corperations that did have their name out, and some that didnt. And I tell you, there is a hell of a difference of the money they make.
Same as real life. You are sitting on a chair.. Right? Most chairs are the same. There are a few high end exceptions and such.. But lets pretend it is a regular wooden chair. Why do you have a certain brand of it? I probally didnt even bought because of the brand.. You bought it from a certain supplier who had it for a nice price.
That is also a way to make name in crafting. Not by giving the best items, but having the edge on competition with prices, bulk, special ways of payment etc etc.
If a game as EvE, where crafting (although huge), is very variable can have a system where there are crafter only corperations that actually are more famous, and people go to them.. I don't see why it isn't possible in ER. It should even be easier.
