If the sound in the game is anything like the videos so far...

elockeelocke Member UncommonPosts: 4,335

Then I WILL be a GW2 player in a heartbeat. I don't think I've heard such awesome sound editing in a game to date. Anyone know if these vids have been doctored or if that is the REAL sound that will assail my ears as I play the game?

I'm a sound junkie, so this is important. I'll sometimes hop on certain classes in certain games just to hear certain sound effects. Like the Loremaster in Lotro, when it sucks power from enemies. I love that base thrum/draw sound.

After some helpful folks down below showed me "the way" to hyperlink, here are links to what I'm talking about.

On these first 4, scroll down a bit to the embedded video and select each skill to see them in action. Pay careful attention to the SOUND detail in each. I advise jacking up the volume, as if you were watching a movie.

I think he is talking about the sound effects in game, environment, other people like npcs, etcetera.

And yes, the sound is a big part of this game, they wanted to make it a total experience. There is even a blog from a while back about how much they invested into making the sound in the game.

Edit: Here are a couple links where they talk about the sound in the game.

Do you like the verbal exclamations that the avatars say?

    They seem to bother me.

Well, those didn't really catch my ... ear... immediately I'm afraid, but the soundtrack they've been showing off is great and I expected nothing less from one of the greatest composers for games ever.

It's a big part for me as well, some people play their own music instead, but I can't imagine doing that myself, doesn't feel like I'm playing a game then.

Music plays an important role in making you emotionally involved and imersed in the game world imo.

Having NPC's say something now and then is cool, but they should be careful with that; I still have nightmares about the NPC when arriving in the human town in Qeynos in EQ2...

"NOW WHERE DID I PUT THAT LEDGER???!!!!" all the time... over and over...

With this cool active sound in game and combat vids I have seen I am starting to wonder how steep the game requirements will be.

Ooh, I'm a big fan of the music too, but I was referring in this case, to the environment and combat sound effects. Very visceral. Kind of reminds me of a movie I saw once. YOu may have heard of it, Saving Private Ryan. First time I saw that in a theatre and heard the bullets whizzing past my ear thanks to the surround sound, I was in complete awe. That's what these videos on the main site are doing right now for me. I'm just impressed with the sound and sound editing.

As to the vocals. I didn't really notice them so much so they didn't really bother me. As long as they don't sound like the vocals in FTP games or Aion, than I'm ok with them.

I wonder if they will release a soundtrack to GW2, I hope so:)

Can you give us some examples of those awesome sounds?

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

    Oh my god...

This may be the first MMO who's music soundtrack may actually challenge that of WoW's. I don't care what anybody says, hate WoW as much as you want, you can't mess with their soundtrack. Looks like Guild Wars 2 is really going to be bringing it!

Man, thank you so much for the music links. They are amazing...

Elocke, if nobody else got what you are trying to say, I sure did. When I watched these trailers, the sounds were one of the first things that stuck out to me. Especially the sounds of the snarling char in the warrior stomp skill video. It was crazy good. If my char sounds like that while I'm gaming regularly...lets just say it will be pretty damn cool!

I think a lot of people underestimate the part that music plays as far as overal immersion goes.  Sure, lots of people turn it off... but in general, I dont think those people are looking for the immersion.

I actually have what i think to be a revolutionary idea involving music in games... i can't share it, of course :)

thanks for posting, this music is wonderful, even better in its own way than music from GW1 or "sorrow's furnace".

im like you... a sound junkie is probaly the best way to describe it actully xD lol...

ive invested thousands of dollars into my sound equipment, and one of the first things I noticed in GW2 from all of their class videos and other gameplay videos was the incredible high quality sound they have.. its amazing.. Im even afraid to think how much space it will take up on my harddrive, unless they got some ridiculas compressing mechanism which contains the extreme high quality sound they are getting ;p

Yea. The music is great in what was showed off so far in GW2. GW2 better be "bringing it" since ArenaNet is founded by former Blizzard employess. R.I.P. WoW Mwahahaha.

I can't say that I am a fan of the sounds and music in games. Usually I just turn the sound down and play my own music. From what I was reading from arenanet about the sounds and their excitement to immerse the players in it, I am thinking I will be playen this one with the sound up. The videos do show it off so I hope it's like that in the game as well. My only gripe is some of the cheesy one liners. I hope they have either the option to shut your avatar up, or have a lot of variety in what your character says when doing the same skill.

I can assume that was just for show, and that won't be in game. Who knows, though.

Well if you look at my post history you'll see that I am following this game heavily and I am a big fan of what I am seeing. So I wasn't sayen anything bad, just throwing my lil bit of input. Hope you didn't think I was bashing it cause youd be verry mistaken.

Thanks all for the replies, I edited the original post now that some of you helpful folks have given me tips on hyperlinking.

I was so stoked after listening to the sound and music that I just went and picked up my copy of Guild Wars Trilogy. I had only played the first one years ago when it first released, and frankly I just needed something to play for the next few months and so I decided to give it a second shot.
