I think the OP was actually a TOR trashing post in the disguise of a seemingly innocent lore question. Bioware has actually shown to be pretty thorough in their lore dedication and steadfastness in their games. That's why they even chose and asked LucasArts to have SW:TOR situated in a time period that'll leave them more flexibility and freedom while still staying within the boundaries of SW's Expanded Universe canon.
But let's face it, SWG broke lore rules even more from the start, with having so many jedi running around in the era of the movies when there clearly wasn't any indication of more Jedi than the ones we know of in the movies.

Invisibility doesn't have to be literal. Kenobi waving his hand and saying "these are not the droids you are looking for" accomplishes the same thing in a different form. While they aren't physically invisible the mind trick prevented the troopers from seeing the droids for what they really were. I don't think it's much of a stretch to extend that to characters in the game who produce some sort of mind blindness effect, where they could stand in plain sight but yet remain unnoticed by those around them. From there it just is a matter of how you represent it graphically in the game, which might involve the characters becoming 'invisible' for simplicity's sake.

SWTOR features stealth, you complain about it not being Star Warsy while complaing you want space exploration, when space wasn't 'explored' in the movies. I'm not against exploration, it's an MMO, but I prefer to explore on the ground, if you prefer space exploration, that's cool too.
Also a Stealth Field Generator was in KOTOR 1 & 2, it was also in Battlefront 2. Using Force Stealth or a certain device isn't that surprising considering there was devices that could shield you from damage, see Shields

Oh, and when it comes to stealth - 'magical invisibility' is still bullshit and no part of SWG ethos. Just because it was one tiny part of KOTOR is absolutely no justification to make 'stealth' the key power of three professions in SWTOR. That's like inventing the profession 'Jedi Gunman' because Obi Wan shot Grievous with a blaster. Sorry.

The further one branches away from the movies, the more interpretation and speculation come into play. LucasBooks works diligently to keep the continuing Star Warsexpanded universe cohesive and uniform, but stylistically, there is always room for variation. Not all artists draw Luke Skywalker the same way. Not all writers define the character in the same fashion. The particular attributes of individual media also come into play. A comic book interpretation of an event will likely have less dialogue or different pacing than a novel version. A video game has to take an interactive approach that favors gameplay. So too must card and roleplaying games ascribe certain characteristics to characters and events in order to make them playable.
The analogy is that every piece of published Star Wars fiction is a window into the 'real' Star Wars universe. Some windows are a bit foggier than others. Some are decidedly abstract. But each contains a nugget of truth to them.
Ok so that kinda says a lot. Now for my part the movies cover about 13.25 hours of around 36 years of time so we get to see half a day in the 13,140 days represented. Leaves a lot of stuff unseen and unknown so the stealth/invisibility issue to me a no issue as already stated to great extent just wanted to throw my spin on it and drive another nail.

agaga claims to play kotor many times during these types of posts, but obiously never has.
In KOTOR anyone could go invisible just by looting or receiving and equipping an invisibility belt.
In fact there was a required portion of the game when defeating the rancor where the quest TOLD you to put on the invisibility belt.
That might be so but he still do have a valid point. Loads of invi people go against the lore of the movies (and probably the books too, never got to actually read them myself). That they did it in the first games doesn't really matter.
Think if Luke could have turned invi at will he would have made a lot of things differently then.
It is actually slightly stupid even with explanations like that the skill is forgotten or no one in the movies were that class.
Just because Agaga is talking a bit of rubbish doesn't mean he can't be partly right.

Besides the fact that in the OP fake arguments are being used to propose another agenda, about invi in MMO's:
Stealth has in as good as all MMO's (even SWG, I think) been represented by going invisible. It's not as if the 'lore' of WoW, LotrO, EQ2, AoC, etc actually confirm that people magically turn invisible when they hide in shadows or become stealthy.
It's the very simple thing of trying to make a believable world in a game or MMO game and the compromises that have to be made. You might as well complain about dying and being resurrected being unimmersive and unrealistic, or that you apparently can take heavy hits and be good within a few seconds again, while in real life 1 or 2 good sword stabs would have you lying on the floor. Or you might as well complain that trinity combat is totally unrealistic for a realistic fight, because it isn't representative at all and you never saw or read people fight together like that in the books or movies a MMO is based upon.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
There was a force Power called Force Cloak that let the Jedi or Sith using it to bend light in a manner that would render them invisible to everyone, both droids and organics as well as species such as Hutts and Yuuzhan Vong. Furthermore epecially adept users of this power could make their presence in the Force disappear too for the duration.
Another way to achieve this was to affect the minds of the individuals around you with the Force to remove all memmory, sensory percenptions of the user being there, though this did not work on droids and Hutts and the Yuuzhan Vong..
Now since the Jedi and the Sith are iconic and "star warsey" and they use invisiibility all I can say is +1 troll

Guildwars did pretty well without invisibility. I always consider the fantasy invi as some kind of magical ability and not really against the lore, well maybe in LOTRO. AoCs invi is however fully into the lore, stealth is actually really hard there and realistic for that matter, get close to a light source and you are a gonner, same if you get close to an enemy.
If TOR uses the same invi as AoC it is fine and well in the lore. If they on the other hand uses Wows or EQ2s where you can stealth really close to an enemy in pure daylight and open terrain it is against the lore.
And I do complain about trinity combat too, but it is another matter for another thread and not that much against the movies ('cept healing). Rezzing is maybe not logical but it is a game and perma death MMOs is currently not possible because hardware and software issues.
My point anyways was that if loads of people run around everywhere cloaked it is kinda a turnoff, it takes away the immersion of the movies.
If they on the other hand uses Wows or EQ2s where you can stealth really close to an enemy in pure daylight and open terrain it is against the lore.
No it isnt, since its lore is Kotor, and in Kotor you could go invisible easily.
My point anyways was that if loads of people run around everywhere cloaked it is kinda a turnoff, it takes away the immersion of the movies.
Well since this game has nothing to do with the movies id say this is a non issue. This isnt a new hope online, this isnt empire strikes back online, or rots online, this is kotor online.

If anybody was 'over-excited' it was probably you. I didn't care if space was in the game. But apparently you did, even with all the evidence pointing to there would be no space or it would be secondary.

Here, I'll post this again, maybe you'll read it this time.
Even if we're going to ignore the stealth generators in the KOTOR games. You have to realize in an MMO stealth is usually handled in such a way. Sneaking isn't exactly possible in an MMO, like rogues in most games, they use invisibility abilities for this. In most you're not exactly invisible, you're sneaking.
Stealth tactics were used in the Movies quite a bit. Just as stealth is used in most military operations.
All that aside, you're question has been answered with many qualifying answers. I think it's safe to say stealth abilities are far from a break in canon.
I'd also like to point out Jedi in SWG had invisibility powers as well.

You do realise the same assistant approved TOR and KOTOR and everyhting aside from the 6 movies ol Gerogie boy made.
So why do you have your panties in such a knot that TOR has invisibility. Since it was never there in the movies it should not even matter to you that it is there in TOR which itself has nothing to refer to from the movies other than the terms Jedi and Sith and The Force.
Fuck that, why did you play KOTOR if 6 movies are all that matters when it comes to your enjoyment of anyhting Star Wars.
Like someone said you lost the arguement or rather I will put it in mature manner of speaking of a character from the mvoies
"Mesa think yousa head full of doo doo yousa go and keep quiet okiday?" Love the "mature" stuff Lucas put in the movies. Give me my kiddie comics anyday!
Stealth really needs the invisibility or it is useless in this type of games. It was also pretty useless in KotOR1&2 from what I remember. Used it to disarm or place mines mostly in few places but that was it.
When you start KotOR2 it goes something like this. You put your pants on, get a weapon and then you fight stealthers. There's like 20+ stealthers in the first friggin map or am I totally wrong here? Not really a minor part I would say.

If you knew what he was saying, why respond with a "what".

What?
He's saying you're a hypocrite.
No, that's not what he's saying.
What he's saying is: 'I'm so over-excited about this game that I don't care that its dpace element is going to be shit. In fact, it doesn't matter that it's shit because, um, space was never part of Star Wars anyway. Also, those grapes are sour'.
Sorry.
No, Han wasn't invisible. Neither was Darth Maul. Deal.
no, i think the previous poster was right, i was pointing out your enormous contradiction. and what "sour grapes" are you referring to? don't pretend that you know anything about me simply because my opinion differs from yours.
fact is, you contradicted yourself and i called you out on it, judging from your defensive response i would say it is you who has the "sour grapes".
I'm sorry, which movie is that from again?
Or are you citing some kiddie comic that an assistant to an assistant to the assistant to the vice-assistant of George Lucas' assistant approved while George was taking a bath?
Why is this thread still going? you lost, get over it.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
