Glad to see this back from the abyss! Looking forward to seeing exactly what changes have been made to game play.
Now for the installer link; one would think they would just post it on their site, unless they feared people without Beta keys would diminsh bandwidth.
they don't even have a site, its just a sign-up for the newsletter, just like the only way to get the beta key was to update the profile from the email, yet it didn't say that at all anywhere in it.
I bet it's going to be a laggy clusterfook in a crappy, unfinished game.
That being said, I'm still going to try it because Rome is win.
Edit: I hope eventually, Heatwave creates a website similar to what Perpetual had going. It was sweet... lots of shiny flash effects, solid info about classes, gods, zones, history (gasp!?), gameplay, etc. The whole background + news signup thing is a bit underwhelming, but if they have to choose between a website and the game, I'd rather they pick the game. Don't know much about Heatwave, may be a tiny little studio.
I'm pretty sure from past reading that when Heatwave bought GnH, they bought it lock, stock and barrel so prior beta info would be there for e-mail addresses. Then there'd be people like me that did sign up on their homepage.
I got a personal reply to my e-mail from last night, plus it looks like all the revised Stress Test Invites went out again with the missing parts included now so No I really doubt this is a WoW scam.
Of course if you're so worried it is, then just delete and pass it up. As for me I'm downloading as I type.

For a game that hasn't been around for 5 years? I wonder if Heatwave really knows what they're getting into, as there still seems to be a lot of old and new interest in the title. Hope it pans out.

you do realize this is just to stress test the login server and client right? There will be no actual gameplay or character creation, lrn2read.

Yeah, which strikes me is odd. I have heard nothing about any significant beta testing and now a server stress test. Heck, I was in beta for this up until it died and was still falling through the world on occassion.

Meh, I am use to this, first step is client stability and logging. They do the same for early alpha not beta. They did this in Stargate Worlds alpha. Just tax the front door then a few weeks later start setting up for alpha...I am a paitent man.

I'll admit, if all they are wanting is for us to log in, and do nothing else, that seems rather weird, since we had to download and install a client thats about 8-9gigs. An hour timeframe wouldn't be much anyways for gameplay, but character creation and logging in, nothing else, yeah...

As sinjin said it is a server stress test. It is standard procedure for every MMO everywhere.
The most important issue is making sure your server setups can handle all of the people trying to log in and being logged in at the same time. From there you test other things such as features and gameplay.
This type of confusion is why beta aren't as useful now a days, people think their purpose is to get to play the game when the actual purpose is to make sure the game is functioning and stable with no major issues.
"Important Note: You may not be able to successfully complete character creation and log in to the game if you have not verified your email address."
So it sounds to me is they do expect some people to make it past the log in screen. Stress testing login, character creation and starter area would make sense as doing them at seperate times would be silly. Can't do much in an hour granted, but I'll be there.

And where did I empy I expected to just play the game? All I said was it seemed rather odd to force us to download, then install 8-9gigs if we were not going to even hit the character creation screne. And, as Nebless said, not being able to create a character and get into the game was only relating to not activating your account, so the person who really needed to "lrn2read" lulz, is Sin.
You wouldn't exactly be stressing the server much as a bit of data qualifying you as logged on, but as a bit of data qualifying as you logged on, associated with a heap more of data constantly being tracked as it moves about an environment, along with others? That would be stress.

Aye, as have I, which is rather awesome considering it isn't even really Friday too. Yay ahead-of-schedule!
I also received the updated letter. I am downloading as I am typing this... See everyone on Saturday!
Almost done with the DL. If anyone is interested in teaming up for stress tests/beta, send me a PM.
I mis-read your post. I fail.

I got a 2nd email that had what was missing.
same here
I did as well. I wonder if it is legit.
Kinda impressed they managed to keep our prior tester emails to reinvite us even though they transitioned.
I downloaded and installed, applied the key and it says I can play thru september 27, but when I go to login says saturday stress test only.
Who knows.
BTW I didnt sign up for the newsletter so that theory is fail. I was however an original alpha tester way back when.
you thinking wow scam?
yes, they want to steal your Gods and Heroes info so they can hack your WoW account.

SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter
I ended up getting two emails, 1 had nothing the other had my Beta Key.

Yeah going ahead and installing an application on your computer....that is ok. Right?
Right.
When it's legit.
Which this is.
They resent the email after the first one was a mistake, mine is fine.
