Most people focus on a single product because thats all they have time for. Work, kids, marriage maintaining a house, going out with friends, dating, school or some combination of those things and a lot more are why most people only choose one MMO. Its not that they dont like or want to play more than one but time becomes an issue, it would be fantastic if we could all be like my friend that is going to an online school for his masters living at home not working and own every console known to man along with a PC and all you have to do is a little homework and play games and not worry about that pesky lil thing called money. Unfortunately the majority of us have shit to do and a lot of it and that leaves room for one MMO and most of the time not enough time as we would like for that.
So choosing the 15 bucks a month is an easy choice for most because when you break down the amount of time spent playing and enjoying a game vs how much it costs per hour for that entertainment MMO's are cheap entertainment.
You spend a certain amount timing playing why must you only play "one mmo".I play video games like 2 hours day on and on weekends more. You are not force to play one mmo at a time you can play two hours of WoW,Two hours of Tera tommorow and alternate back forth. You can spend one week playing WoW then one week playing Tera and alternate. The payment plan locks in playing one game
Right now I have Aoc account and play DDO,Allods,Requiem and UFC,Madden.I focus more on Aoc but i play those games too.If I had to pay 15 dollars for DDO,Allods and Requiem i would not play them. Some people like to play one game focus it go throught it quickly.I like to spread my attention over a lot games and go through them slowly.
15 dollars kills that idea and limits what i play.I know i will never play one of these Tor,Tera,Rifts,Secert World, war 40k,DC Online and FFXIV and i have interest in all of them.I know might like 2 of them but i will have to drop one them because of payment plan.If Rifts was B2P,Tera was B2P i would be playing both.
The original guild wars is now 20$ and already 6 mil people bought it so that is 12000000$ and when it came out it cost more.Even that sum pays for the games development and maintainance plus profit...and they had another 2 campaigns and 1 expansion. So yeah other companies are greedy in some way, because theu make alot of money but don't invest back in the game as much as they should.
Guild wars is not an mmorpg, its diablo 2 on steroids thats it. Until you can have huge guilds all participating in an instance or a war of 100vs 100 or have zones that have more then just your party in it, its practicly a single player game.
the maintenance fee you pay for these games is the bandwith usage.
Guild Wars 2 is an MMO. I can't believe some people still don't know that already. As for the server costs, AN have stated that they a capable of running a lot of servers while being very cost efficient, therefore a subscription isn't needed, but only the initial price of the game along with expansions which will probally be very frequent.
Yes, exactly. ANET said that the difference in bandwith is surprisingly small from the first GW and they also said that the monthly fee is a rest since the bandwith were very expansive when MMOs like Meridian 59 and UO came out.
It might however affect the customer service somewhat.
Pmaura, check out the vids from gamescon and you'll see around 50 players in an open world. You really should check your facts a little better.
When I used the WoW Customer Service, it took Blizzard two days to respond.
When I used the Guild Wars Customer Service, response came the same day.
I think it has more to do with company policy than payment.
Also, I play less than 12 hours of games a week, and I'm not limited to a single MMO. I play an FPS, Guild Wars, and I want to find another MMORPG to start (completely F2P). The worst part of P2P MMORPGs is that there will always be a free version very similar to it looming on the horizon; for WoW, this came when Runes of Magic came out (tried both; gameplay was ridiculously similar). Both were boring for me.
