its a closed open beta, invite only, i would think everyone that got keys for it already got them when they said no more open beta keys were going out after the 16th?  i could be wrong, i didnt get one, im not too sad since i know the game will actually release "ready to play".

thats what im saying, if youre in the open beta, you most likely have that key by now, its not a public open open beta.....

The CB tester will get a new key for the OB & they haven't got it yet that I know of.

What we'll happen is SE is going to gradually send keys starting with the CB testers ( maybe not... who knows ^_^ ) slowly Increasing server stress in a controlled way.

Now the guessing part; My guess is that when they run out of CB testers they'll start sending keys to people choosen from the CB sign up that closed on the 16th.

    Good luck to everyone!

This time it'll be much closer to what we'll get at release; All 3 cities, more tweak, etc. Don't forget! This is still a BETA. You are there to test anything/everything. Discover the world & have fun. :)

Until we can actually post on the forums, we're hardly "testing" things in the general sense.

  • F4ythiF4ythi Member Posts: 30

I think SE actaully wants it to be more of a demo than a test now >.>

All the people who got into the beta mid phase 3 cant even post in the beta forums, only read them. So they can't submit feedback or anything.  Also, we've told them what the problems were and gave our feedback so its really just up to them now. From polls I've seen around various sites, usuaully 60-75% of people in polls vote they don't want surplus in the games. Most people want a hardware mouse. Theres a couple other issues but other than that things seem fine. UI Lag and all that junk is expected in a beta when they are running routine checks.

It's pretty much a demo now and a lot of their sales will depend on how the open beta performs. I love the game so I hope they iron out a lot of stuff before release =/

Actually, I thought I read something on the SE account management page about the way they were going to do invites, or was that about closing down accounts that didnt get updated correctly before 7pm PST on the 31st. Yeah, I'm not sure anymore. Was even something there about the 22nd of September too, when the headstart begins. Way too early in the morning to remember the details, its' there though I'm sure.

im sure the soft mouse is a result of the eventual ps3 release, no hardware mouse built in there, although it wouldnt killem to make one since you can plug usb keyboards and mice into ps3s *devil face* surplus is in to stay, deal with it hehe

Unless the forum post is in the Japanese beta they pay no attention to the post of testers so its kinda pointless.

    SE Account Management Update

Square Enix has published an announcement that their Account Management site will be receiving 2 updates in the next month. After August 31 you will be required to specify your region and country. On September 22, the system will receive further updates for the release of Final Fantasy XIV (one mentioned is a variety of payment features). Additional details about these changes can be found here.

Why geting a new key ?

Why not just leting the CB testers in the OB automaticly, would be a way simpeler :/

True to form, SE is withholding any and all information about this "Open Beta" other than the date and time.  If you go to the Beta sign up page on FF!4 it clearly says they will be accepting apps for the final beta soon. Here it is the day before and no app. However I seem to remember reading on their sign up page, if you filled out the SE beta app once, it was enough, it's for all beta's and no need to do it again.

I have some friends who played in the Beta's a and b. They have speculated that this open beta may very well start  out as invite only but progress to to allow all in, up to a certain number, just to stress the servers. This may take days to reach. Again speculations.

It was stated in thier announcement that they will be gating the log-in server to control server stress, not the keys they are handing out. Its an open beta. Everyone calm down before your dreams are smashed by high hopes.

Yup thats what I had seen. They changed thier alert a little bit from when I read it though. Now it says you have to change it the first time you log in AFTER that date. Originally it stated something about if you didnt change your origin country you wouldnt' be able to log in. This is much better. Looks like all these changes go in effect on thier mainteance tonight and that people will be able to log in to thier SE accounts just prior to the expected OB start of 0200 GMT on the 1st.

Dont see any official word on the Open Beta yet, but all the time/date comments all meet up with what we already assume to be correct.

First, for CB testers. I doubt there will be new keys needed. My account shows my beta account active until Sept. 18, 2010 (apparently taking the servers down for a few days to prepare for the Collector's Edition launch on the 22nd).

Second, although there isn't much official on who will get Open Beta keys, I'm pretty sure that the deadline for entering a beta application was a day in mid August and that they mentioned that they would be awarding Open Beta keys from that pool. Does that mean from that pool first? Or exclusively? Does that mean everyone who applied by that date will get a key? Or are there fewer keys than applicants? Will key distribution be staggered?

To those questions, I don't think we really know.

More than a few of us encouraged people who hadn't already applied for beta to do so before the deadline, because it appeared that it might only be applicants who will have access to OB keys (aside from the promotional keys alloted to particular sites).

I'm going to make an educated guess that if you hadn't applied for beta by the deadline, you might want to start investigating which sites may be offering OB keys and what you have to do for a chance to get one, because it seems very possible that the keys released by SE directly will be going to people who applied for beta, but didn't get a Closed Beta invite.

Have OB keys been confirmed? It doesn't sound like it would make much sense, I've heard people saying it was going to be a real Open Beta and with their recent announcement that the so called 'player-limiting' would be done by the login server by placing the player in a Queue, I don't see any purpose for OB keys.  Is this just a rumor or has it been confirmed or is it still up in the air at the moment?

Yeah, because obviously the Japanese know what the rest of us want.image

Judging only from what has been shown and written about FFXIV so far, I can believe they are only listening to the Japanese players. I expect FFXIV will be yet another niche game outside of Japan, just like FFXI.

One thing ive been wondering is are the servers global like in ffxi will I see japanese people walking around or have they taken the newer approach (worse approach imo) of dividing servers by region?

Our Account Management System is Changing

We are shifting to new internal systems and services that require all of our customers to properly identify their current residence in order to access our new products and services. One consequence of this is that Members residing outside of the supported territory (United States and Canada) will not be able to access their existing North America SQUARE ENIX MEMBERS accounts, including MEMBERS Points, after August 31, 2010 2:00am PDT. New accounts may be available in your proper territory. We apologize for any inconvenience.

    Introduction

On September 22, along with the official launch of FINAL FANTASY® XIV's service, the Square Enix Account Management System will be significantly updated, adding a variety of payment features and more.

Due to these upgrades, current Square Enix Account users will need to register their country of residence the first time they log in to the Square Enix Account Management System after August 31, 2010 2:00am PDT.

Looks like they are going to the regional/territorial approach.

It could still be just the accounts/game clients/and maybe things like that but that the actual game servers can still be connected.

True, this is also on that notice page.

    Square Enix Account Regions

Square Enix Accounts are divided into three different regions: (1) Japan, (2) the Americas, and (3) Europe & Other Regions. The FINAL FANTASY XIV packaged software being released on September 22 and September 30 differs according to its region. Please make sure to purchase the software specifically developed for your registered country of residence or we cannot ensure that you will be able to use it.

    Also...

You are now required to accurately register your current region. If this differs from your previous registration, you may be prevented from using any services or products that you had been using on your Square Enix Account up until now, specifically including the Members Site and all associated Members Points. You will be able to access your region's version of those services. We apologize for any inconvenience. However, if you fail to update this information now, you may be prevented from accessing future services.

So yeah, I don't know about the servers themselves, but it sure looks like everythign else is being regionalized.

So... basically from reading this thread the gist I'm getting is if you weren't in closed beta you're not in Open?  Why is it called open then I wonder.

I'm sort of in a sucky spot because I applied with a not so great old computer and now I just got a new one, partly to play this game, and I'm really excited but I can't reapply.  I was a big fan of ffxi and played it for over a year and am dying to try out this one.  Hopefully they'll open it up to not require a key at launch or something.

Or, if anyone knows where one could get a beta key some other way or for some weird reason has an extra, please let me know and I'll be your best friend.
