For those back in the day played ultima online i want to kow what you loved about it and if it was modernized today with a level of graphics like "Aion" would you play it?
Comments
I would play it today if they sped up the gameplay to play like Diablo 2.
Hated it. Jump to EQ once it was out. Ganigng everywhere. Leveling up mining by clicking a rock with a crowd doing the same is no fun. Everyone eventualy becomes a tank mage.
I wont touch it with a ten foot pole.
I loved it as the first MMO, and I loved that it was a Sandbox Worldly game.
I hated the rampant PKing, and always felt that getting the justice system right would have not only fixed that problem, but allowed games to create worlds with some deep social interaction.
I felt that UO was a first step, that it needed to grow. Onstead, other MMOs went completely away from "worldly". Hell, in EQ you couldn't even sit down for quite a while. Although, EQ was still more "worldly" than what came after it.
"Less with each new game".
If someone were to take UO's basic design, make it fully 3D game with a huge world, and enhance what UO started out as as well as put in a real justice system, I think that game would kick some serious arse.
By "enhance what UO started out as" I mean to continue with the ideas that they couldn't get in at release, and never followed up on. Things like hunting the deer too much and leaving Dragons hungry, causing them to attack cities and eat cows. All items made of wood being burnable. Being able to pick up any knife off a table and throw it.
I also think there's lots of room to add things to what players can do to, and in, the world. Till a field and plant crops. Build roads and bridges. Bash down oaken doors. Roll rocks down a cliff side.
WHAT'S THAT!? Oh, it's another gamer around the corner over there that's going to tell me that this can't be done, that it's too much. Well, I suggest they stop building static quests after quests and zoning out worlds into flavors of the month, and start building a world to run in.
Once upon a time....
Where do I sign?
UO was awesome.
From PKing, going red, staying up for years(it seemed) just to turn blue again. Gate fights, random scraps at events. Guild issues. The economic world in UO was probably the best in any game, until duping happened. You could actually just be a crafter and still be one of the richest in the game. The opportunities in the game were limitless. They really should re-design the game but keep everything the same. Im actually thinking about playing it again as I type all of this.
I tried it again about six months ago for nostalgic reasons and found i couldn't get back into it. I've moved on gaming wise, no point looking back i guess.
