Mouse issue fixed?

rmk70rmk70 Member UncommonPosts: 408

They ever fix the laggy mouse issue that was reported in beta?

I heard it ruined the playing experience for a lot of people. Would drive me nuts, that's for sure.

Hopefully, open beta will give us better mouse response. At the same time, I would not hope for much though. Square has pretty much said they are staying with software mouse as ridiculous as that sounds. So you may see some optimizations but nothing substantial.

what is this whole Software mouse thing and why does it result in really laggy mouse movement?

I believe the software mouse is basically sync'd with the framerate, so if you get dips in framerate/low framerate/etc then the mouse is going to be very jumpy/slow.

Now how long before someone says "Its not the game its your computer"?

I think the biggest issue is that I can run this game on max settings, but it goes between 40-60 FPS. This doesnt bother me at all. However, it is VERY noticeable in mouse movement when the framerates fluctuate like that. The problem is that in EVERY OTHER FREAKING PC GAME the one reliable thing you have is the mouse, lol.

I can play Borderlands no problem with 15 frames per second, but trying to play XIV with 12fps is horrible.

Well, technically, if you never dipped below 60fps and had vsync on...

    :P

I play with a gamepad anyway, easier to play from the couch/beanbag :)

Pretty sure that as of phase 3 beta, it is physically impossible to be capped at 60fps in every single situation unless you have a very high end computer and are running the game at crap settings, which is a slap in the face. Even then the software mouse still isn't as good as hardware.

Yes, thanks for a definion to a word I already know.

I also knew it was sarcasm, but the statement is still a decent one, however like I said a 60fps is pretty much impossible while also making the game look good, and that was my point. If all you wanted to do was state a sarcastic reply with no relevance to the topic poster, as you did, next time...maybe don't.

Can someone expert on this explain "Why it is so hard for SE to use hardware mouse?" & What the difference between both?

    Thank you ^^

My mouse moved very quickly. It was nice. I dunno what everyone's issues with the mouse are, but if it is a software mouse people with bad computers are going to be hurting.

I have a GTS 250, had the game on med high graphics and had 60 FPS. The game is not as taxing on your computer as you have been lead to believe.

Basically a "software" mouse is rendered within the game.  It uses sprites on the screen just like your health bar, skills, etc.  The game uses built-in coding to detect where the mouse cursor is and display that information on the screen using only game code.  Rendering the mouse this way can help cut down on exploits in relation to mouse movement.

The movement speed is tied directly to the framerate of the game.  Unfortunately a software rendered cursor can never move faster than the FPS of the game, so for someone (like me) who moves their mouse pretty quickly, no matter how many FPS you have in a game, it still seems laggy.

A hardware mouse is rendered by the mouse drivers installed on the computer, it is independant of the framrate or refresh rate of your game/monitor.  A game would be programmed to access the mouse drivers and render the mouse in-game in exactly the way that Windows displays your mouse cursor/speed.  Most games then overlay a different style of pointer, but you're still basically using the "Windows" cursor within the game.

If you're in Windows and move your mouse quickly across the screen, you'll notice that there seems to be a gap every 2 inches or so (depending on monitor size).  This means you're moving the mouse faster than 60FPS so it's not able to render every single frame of the mouse movement.
