Based on what? there are 132 on the forum atm as compared to 1211 for EQ2. It's a very rough measure I know, but better than nothing. If we are looking at the lowest population that keeps an MMO sustainable, we can look at Xsyon which plainly states they are aiming for a MAXIMUM population of 5000. Since the lead designer has prior experience he most likely has enough insight to know that this would be a sustainable population to form the core of the game and grow from there,

Yeah, 200 players would be impossible, the game would have closed down the week after launch. Something between 2-10 000 is likely, probably at the lower spectrum but it is just a guess. Ill ask Henrik if I run into him...

My guess is that both MO and DF will run with rather slow populations but still keep on running for some years. Well unless Greece go under in a new financial crisis, some analysts say it will happen or Sweden which is rather unlikely.

You don't need so many players with such a small team Star vault have. On the other hand that means all fixes will take a long time.

I fail to understand how a report for the first half of this year is important when the most critical financial information is about how many copies were sold and more importantly, how many subscribers (cash flow) currently exists.   The report you reference is void of that informtation and as we all know the subscriber base is extremely small and based upon reviews of players no longer subscribed and the massively review we see hardly any one posting in the welcome forum.   MO is clearly not obtaining new subscribers of any measure and failing to retain the majority of those who purchased the game.   It's one thing to be a fan but please allow new members of this web site who may not know better to get an honest picture of the current financial situation.

That said, I'd hope any one considering any game would do their research as there is plenty of threads here, on official forums and such to draw from.

So I would probably agree that  1/3 of the server population was at your seige, it wouldn't be that uncommon for low  population games. The reason why people flock to these events is because they are so bored of the game they want to take part in something fun, hence, the server population migrating to seige events. As the population increases or decreases you will se more or less people at seiges.

Even in DnL seige , all of the server about 150 pepople would flock to the seige toi try and get any action they could. :) . Seiges also bring "volcher" players who will loot the dead.

Ummm I don't know about  Shadowbane and DnL, but a "siege" in MO works nothing like a siege in Darkfall.  No-one knows about the siege until the attackers show up, as opposed to the 24 hour warning and specified window that darkfall has.  For most people the first they heard of this siege was when it got posted to the forums. MO is just not so conducive to  "vultures" which I think is a good thing.

Bringing this back around to the topic of the thread, I don't think the number of people involved in a siege is a good way to measure the population of the game.

Cause no one uses Forums or ventrillo servers to communicate. For ever 20 people in vent, there is one spy or loose lips. :) . Word of mouth spreads fast in smaller game communities. Think the max the server can actually handle is about 500 + 1000

It can handle more than 500 - 1000 players because more than that played at launch day.  MUCH MORE....

Since the server greatly improved since launch day I'm sure it can hold even more players than that now.

Also there planning on adding more continents and with more continents means more nodes and of course more nodes means higher server capacity.

Honestly I don't think there is a set roof for the total amount of players on the server but we may see after they start advertising the game.

    I will be totally honest.

I tried Mortal Online, even though many people on these forums said I should not buy it. Mortal Online was a piece of trash. I did not like the strick limits they put onto the skills. The Character Models sucked, and of course NO 3D Character Viewing, or any type of really good spell casting system.

Dark Fall is much better than Mortal Online based on my first trial of this game when I purchased it. I tried the game for 3 days I just could not stand it. Really strick limits on crafters, and fighters, and the game is  too restricting with only 1000 points when it should be like DarkFall uncapped.

I will not be renew my subscription ever for this game until they fix everything and send out emails saying we have improved come try the game, then maybe I will try it and see if its any better.

Improvements  I would like to see before even thinking about trying this game again.

    1. Improved Character Models.

    2. 3D Support to be able to play in 3rd person mode as well.

    3. A Actual Map to see where you are.

    4. No Limt on Skill Learning.

    5. Real Spell Casting Like Dark Fall.

If they cannot give players anything decent like this do not expect people to even play this game, I tried this game like 3 months ago.

Mortal Online is even worse than Hell Gate London Was, or even Fury Online, and APB is following those two games, because they suck now too. Punk Buster has totally killed that game, and all the bugs as well. These are the two worst MMO I have played in 2010 Mortal Online being the first of those.

Also I would play this game again if it really changed a lot.

Server "quality" has proved to be inversely proportional to server population.  As more people leave the game, the server "improves".  Now, that COULD be because they are changing things behind the scenes... or it COULD simply be because the server runs better when there are 200 players instead of 900...

Noone will really know unless the population spikes upwards.. and I honestly think that's a fairly longshot...

So when I was fighting last night in a 70 person battle, that was nearly half the server in one spot according to you. Mmmmkay.

You would be wrong. It wasn't an event. And most of the server didn't know it even happened until it was over and the battle report was posted on the forums. Sorry but you have no basis for your claims of MO population.

This game is going down in a flaming shitstorm. I wouldn't bother playing. I regret buying it, and will never buy another MMO based on a list of features/concepts again. Anyone can write a list of interesting concepts, but coding them, bug free is another story. I really think they just write some code and don't even try running the game to see if the new code works.

What they need to do is focus on fixing bugs before adding anything new which introduces new bugs. I have no idea where they got these coders but fucking seriously, they're amateurs at best.

The median age at SV is 23 years old. Most of their programmers were Unreal modders in the past, and they've had numerous interns work directly on things that get released.

So yeah, it's no wonder the game has bugs. You have inexperienced people coding it.

I have to say, I HIGHLY doubt you will see the 3rd person view, as SV has stated that will NEVER happen.   Then the no limit on skill learning,  well a snowballs chance in hell on that one too.     The ingame map, not going to happen, again SV is against that.   There is plenty of player made ones that are with in 1% accurate of the in game world.    Perhaps you may see the improved character models and spell casting... but that depends on the Epic Games Patch......

So much crap, so little quality.

    Horses for courses I gues because: I would never ever play this game if they had;

    1. 3rd person.

    2. An in game map.

    3. Un-capped skill training. This is the main reason I quit DF, jack of all trades games always fail for me.

With regards to the spell casting I beleive they are updating on an ongoing basis. As for the improved models, well more detail will equal more lag in general. For me the game looks good and that's enough. There are so may things MO needs to improve on imo these just are not even remotely them.

As for population, well it's impossible to say without them releasing the figures which I highly doubt they will do any time soon. When they start hitting concurrent populations of 1k+ then they might. So long as the game has enough people for it to function in all areas the pop isn't an issue, imo atm it is pretty close to the mark.
