they took it down once he posted this. crap....
keep trying, I had this happen also to me until I tried it one last time and it worked
Its pathetic they werent ready for this btw. Just pathetic.
Ever think that they may have done this for a reason? They needed to stress test the servers and what better way than to do it during open beta? This provides them with valuable information regarding traffic they should expect when the game launches.

Maybe, but to me it makes an aweful bad first impression.
Currently playing browser games. Waiting for Albion Online, Citadel of Sorcery and Camelot Unchained. Played: almost all MMO pre 2007
not me.... age of conan taught me the lesson of dont buy it unless you tried it first, star trek online reinforced that lesson... if I cant give it a test spin then not wasting 50 on it, I dont care who the people are putting it out... I am tired of wasting money on games that are horrible... at least with console games you buy it and hate it you can return or trade it in.... mmo's no recourse whatsoever.

But this is a beta test. It's suppose to be broken so that SE knows what to fix for the game's launch. If things like this happen once the game goes live, I'll be right here agreeing with you. Until then, as much as I wanted to try the game a bit longer, I don't have an issue with it going down.

Yes but it shouldn't be this broken 3 weeks before launch. I think this game is going to have a rather rough launch.

No one's really been able to stay in game long enough to tell if the game itself is broken or not, the problem is communicating with the servers, and open betas/stress tests are most often when they focus on addressing those problems.
We're only 4 hours into it, hardly time to start making judgement calls.
Now if we don't see an improvement in server stability after a few days, then there'd be a reason for some concern.

AoC had a good intro experience. The first 20 levels were very good. Not $50 worth of good but not bad at all. The company that taught me the clearest lesson in the necessity of being able to try it first was... Square Enix.
I bought FFXi off the shelf instead of trying it out first based on hearing good things about it and the fact that it had been around for a while. I figured, even if I only got a few weeks of playing around with it, as with AoC, it would be worth it. I entirely did not expect the user interface and character movement to be so completely foreign. I have played many MMOs over the last 12 years and some have taken some time to get used to. But, for me, FFXI was unplayable. I couldn't figure out how to move the character at all. I understood that it was based on a console game and tried to approach it from that perspective. I eventually figured out that you really had to zoom in and move from a first person point of view for it to make any sense at all. But that simply made me ill by giving me vertigo. After 4 hours of fighting with the interface and not even getting out of the city to fight something I finally gave up. I then gave it a second go a few months later after quizing a friend who had played it for years.
I understand that this interface is familiar and easy for many people. And I understand the limitations of porting software between platforms. That is fine. It simply taught me that you can't assume that you will even be able to get an evening's play out of a game let alone a month or more.
I preordered this one on the hope that this time around they would support a more PC style of interface at least as an option. But I am certainly not taking that for granted. I have also heard in other threads that the interface is in fact substantially similar to the older game. I simply don't have a choice. If I can't get into the beta to try out out, I will have to cancel my preorder.

Smart man! That's my opinion on things too.
