They've talked about there being renamed professionsa and new ones. If they meant plural on both then two have to be renamed and two brand new, there is no more room for returning professions with the same names. Mesmer, assassin, dervish, paragon, riatualist are all out as far as names go. There are no spears (paragon's weapon) or scythes (dervish's weapon).
They of course could have professions that mix GW1 professions with new names. At least one of the remaing 4 has to use pistol since that weapon is known to be in the game.
I suspect that one of the adventurer classes will be one oriented with guns, as rangers cant use them and warriors already can, and puting a gun oriented profession in the scholar area seems contradictory.

They could, though, make a gun class be a soldier type. Kinda like paragon's are, they have spears and they have 80 armor like warriors.

Which could be true. Mesmer could return under another name, combining abilities from another class. Just the art work has that pinkish hue, which leads it self to mesmer like abilities.
I don't know about the second soldier class (or, at least the mace woman depicted in this concept art) being a "pious" character, because I'm not sure how well that would work lore-wise, considering how every race can play as any profession. I can't imagine many Asura running around preaching fidelity to Dwayna, after all.
Though, with that in mind, I'd like to see how it would work if such a class were to be implemented. Perhaps they could rework it depending on which race you select, and the "higher power" that you worship could change or even be selectable as part of your character biography.
Oh well. In the end, it's all speculation, anyway.

You see, there's something that people don't understand. The characters don't need to have skills named after dwayna, they can have that in their Racial skills, that's why I think dervishes CAN still make a return because all of their skills can be converted into normal skills while the avatars could become Racials.
With that logic, the mace lady can work in all races.

Hm? From what I've read about racial skills, it doesn't say anywhere that they change depending on your profession. I might be missing something, however, so please, correct me if I'm wrong.
If racial skills do not change depending on profession, then my concern still exists. Mace lady can work in all races, but if she's the "pious" character that was speculated in other posts, then it might be a bit difficult for her abilities and backstory to work with every race.

but another question would be how they would balance that, considering only the humans worship the Gods and the norn already have avatar like racial skills
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Professions_reveal you'll see that the mesmer art and the unnamed plate wearing chika align very well with 2 of the spots on the right side of the profession reveal tableau.
I'd guess mesmer and some sort of plate wearing spell caster type. Not sure on the other two, though I hope the Dervish makes an appearance.
As an big follower on my sites and such of guild wars 2 I can all but confirm (based on speculation, concept art, and interviews) that the remaining four are
Mesmer
Assassin
Paladin (the name is unknown but it's a combination of a Monk/Paragon/Warrior currently being referred to as "The Blue Mace Lady")
Engineer (mini turrents (replacing Ritualist spirits) as well as guns, bombs, and so on.)

Perhaps I should research this further...
The BML would be a guardian of sorts, what she uses is magic and magic that permeates the world of tyria. She doesn't necesarily have to call down balthazar in order to protect you, she just has to use magic in the way she knows how to.
Yes, racials definitely allow you to customize builds from one race to another but Anet has said these skills are less powerful than the core skills the professions have available to them making it somewhat balanced since the professions may always have something similar to what racial skills can do.
I do think it would be cool if the avatars make a return even if the Norn can shapeshift. It would be cool to be able to turn the tide of battle by turning into the Avatar of Balthazar and unleashing devastation for a short period of time.

The mesmer will be much braoder specced then the orriginal Mesmer, mesemer aka GW1 is to much a one street only for GW2
The assasin will be more rogue then Assasin.
I agree with your paladin description ... but the class name will be different....
Technollogy is not advanced enough for an engineering class.... Assura use magic to build their mechanical constructs... and the char are just only developing basic pre steam engine technollogy.... so that leaves us clueless about the last class, all we know is that it will wield guns for sure...
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
Technology is by far way more advanced than it was in GW1.. there are turrets, magical tech of the Asura and there are enemies that thrown bombs and such which i would guess an egineer will be able to do. But It's more of like an Alchemist class except it's not like they will be building computers it's more that they will be using guns and other weapons to get the job done.

true, and I could live with that.
