So even though FFXIV is just around the corner (still attempting to get an OB key), I'm thinking about picking up the $10 FFXI deal from Steam. Now, I've played FFXI before, even pre-ordered it back in the day, but I've barely played it. Oh maybe six months total since release. Never was able to get into it since either a) my PC was terrible at the time or b) was playing EVE or WoW or c) No money. Needless to say, I never really got far, but was always intrigued by the game.
For $10, I really can't go wrong, but still, that's $10 I could put towards FFXIV or something else. How are the world populations? Communities? I'm not necessarily looking to play til EG, I just need something to play for at least the interim and I want to know if it's worth investing in. Thanks.

Yes, definitely. The server I'm on (Leviathan) is bustling. Just about everyone agrees that the new Abyssea expansions and moving the level cap up have revitalized the game.
Good to hear! Well I picked it up this afternoon. A few other forums seemed to reporting positive things. Finished the updates and now creating a character. Thanks for the info!
Bahamut is a good server too, and if you check out the allakhazam forums, you will find out about a recently formed new player Linkshell you could join as well.

It's always worth playing.

FFXI Character: Satimasu
FFXI Server: Valefor
FFXIV Character: Tamorae Fonteil
I left FFXI 7 years ago and played LoTRO Vanguard EQ2 WoW AoC Aion ect...... I came back to FFXI because in my honest opinion it's the best mmorpg after EQ1 it's not overly hard (now it isn't was at first) not a solo'd maxt lvl playschool mmo like the last batch of WoW clones and for some reason will always have a good sized playerbase THIS GAME IS NOT DEAD thank god...... so everyone who is thinking of playing it SHOULD.
You have pretty much summed up my last 7 years of gaming (with the exception of AoC <--wouldn't run on my PC). I want to have some fun and meet gamers. I'm a bit tired of soloing my way through content, and am going to put myself out there in a community that I've heard great things about.
