I like the amount of classes at launch combined with the soul system it could be a pretty sweet game from the point of char development.  Hopefully there will be tons of viable builds.

they are more like builds then classes, after you choose main class(warrior, mage etc) u choose between 3 sub classes, which have been listed above) each with its own tree and build your overall class

  • MoorqueenMoorqueen Member UncommonPosts: 40

When you make your character though each faction has a total of 8 souls to choose from, more than half are discovered later in the game.

Here's to hoping the balance isn't horrible with that many subclasses to flesh out the main class.

Why worry bout balancing when you can just change souls to whatever is the best for that time.  I really believe this is gonna be like Diablo 2 where one patch a Sorc was awesome in PVP and next patch a Barbarian was the best lol.

  • midmagicmidmagic Member Posts: 614
And you just explained exactly why balance is important.

Not saying that everything should be useful at all times and some combos are going to be more effective in some situations. However, it is pointless to have all of the options if the options become meaningless due to failure to strike any balance.

I'm fairly certain that there isn't going to be a 'best' build for any of these classes because of the sheer amount of different possibilities. One build will be better and worse in so many different ways I think it's as great system.

It's not completely revolutionary but this game will most likely be worth a sub

Another popular blizzard game I refuse to mention directly, has class swings as well.

Early in the games history there were certain classes that dominated and patch by patch, things change, things get nerfed, buffed, revamped etc and it makes me laugh because many think about it as balanced but the balance is constantly changing.

What I like about RIFTS classes are how diverse they are. Rogues can be archer types, Mages have a healing tree etc etc

So you've already seen all the of classes, tried all the combos, and the group setups for pve, and already competed in a multiple, large population pvp competitions to determine that this will finally be the game that strikes a "balance"? No wild balance shifts when things get nerfed and buffed? No grossly dominate setups?

Until the game has been out for a while there is no way you can make such a claim. Players have been rather successful at breaking every other system so far. Devs never have the time or the resources to give every "class/sub-class" its due during content additions and reworks.

Theres no way you can honestly be certain of that.  Have you even read the Rift Forums on the offical site ?    With this many combinations and so many options ill guarantee a month after someone hits max level you will start to hear about what builds are best for each situation.   Do I think there will be one ultimate build that is great for everything ?  Nope but there will be builds that are best for certain situations which is very acceptable and understandable.

Which is the way, kinda sorta, that Trion has stated they want things. They want someone to find a "best build" only to have someone else find a "better build" the next month, and so on and so forth. THey want players to continually keep coming up with new builds.

Makes sense. Lessens that "I've conquered all" feeling if you know that Trion will always introduce new Souls and that you'll probably never play with the best designed build OR that there will always be the possibility of a new Soul introduced that makes your build even better.
