iPods, iPhones and MMO

Apple has announced the implementation of their new Game Center along with their new iPod touch. With the amount of people with phones and eventually these iPod's, do you think that this is the next big thing for mmo games? Portable, polished, and persistent games that connect you to others using the same devices? I don't want this to be a iPhone vs otherPhone but rather your thoughts on this news and the idea of portable mmorpgs.

There are already portable mmorpgs.. Just Apple products are crap so why would you want to use that to play them? LOL image

    Six reasons to boycott Apple

Though I can think of quite a few more..

Why would I want to buy a product from a company that wants to tell me what I can do with it after I purchase it? I mean even though they lost the ability to make it illegal for customers to jail break their products, they still are allowed to break your product for using it, even if they cannot legally prosecute you.. Pretty lame LOL

Why would I buy their crap when I can go get a better product with more functions that I can do whatever I want with it? image

Personally I haven't had any problems with my old iPod so I don't understand what's so crappy about it. The article you linked is interesting but seems based on the authors bias.

What portable devices can I play mmorpgs on? I don't know of any good, powerful devices with solid graphics, and controls with an industry chomping at the bit to produce games for it. Net books, psp and nintendos are all portable but don't have the sheer mass of people using it consistently.

Maybe your right, if you have a problem with a company, then you won't support it. I understand that. Just like I would rather build a computer out of the parts that I want vs a computer from a specific company. My preferences do not change the fact that companies are producing products that could do something new for the gaming industry.

My opinion is that with the amount of people that have iPhones and iPods around the world, game producers are going to be creating some amazing things with the technology. Hopefully MMORPGS.

Yeah they have similar slow, choppy, unplayable vidoes of iPod doing the same thing.  But I would rather see an MMO that plays and has graphics similar to this on a portable device.

Not sure if we will see that anytime soon since the direction Apple, Verizon and AT&T have chosen to take targeting wireless broadband usage for overpricing.

The new pricing model? Heavy mobile data users pay more

Someone had been posting a play by play on these forums over this a while back- but it appears we ( the consumers) are losing.

True, the internet options on cell phone carriers is a fat FAIL but for the most part, wherever I go I can access wifi, it's just not convenient  to bust out a laptop while waiting in a line or something like that to jump online to kill a few rats.  Something that small and powerful has huge potential.

Lucky I live in the UK..i get Unlimited internet for £10 a year on my iPhone and Blackberry.

But that is pretty crazy that he got WoW on his phone...in a couple years you could probably play it with no lag.
