GW2 system requirements?

MnemiMnemi Member UncommonPosts: 55

Okay, this probly doesn't pertain or concern most current mmorpg players and their computers but I wanted to pose the question: I have been following guild wars, love the games and all. I look forward to GW2 but I'm kinda iffy on if my pc will even run it when it comes out. According to the website GW2 is going to be runnable on "mid range pcs" but they don't clarify on what that means exactly. My PC is older than most and here are my specs

Processor: Single core Intel Celern D 3.46GHZ

Video Card: Nvidia 8400 soon to be 9600GSO

RAM: 3 gigs.

Hopefully I can run it I haven't had trouble running any mmorpg so far aside from the more recent APB etc games.

My PC is old I know feel free to comment.

From what I have read up about the specs of Guild Wars 2, they are going to make it as scalable as possible. If you can play Guild Wars at max settings now, it will easily be playable. Of course, if your computer can go higher, it is DX10 compatible, so you can even higher if you wish.

Don't worry - we will get into Guild Wars 2. You can count on it.

I remember a dev saying that Guild Wars 2 will play well on anything 5 years or younger

Geforce 8600 Gt graphics card runs the game "great".

I second that actually. I do remember that.

They did say that their dev machine used for testing has a video card that "Can't be bought anymore because its too old".

Mid range will be able to play GW2 they just won't be able to see the graphics in all their glory

Woah, Intel Celeron? The worst processor in the history of mankind. I doubt that you can play GW2 without any lag.

Yeah, Celerons are weak like hell. I know it from experience.

    To OP:

Don't buy better VGA... your CPU can't handle it anyways.

What kind of motherboard you have?

If its weak you should consider to buy that 1st. Then new CPU and the last stuff is the new VGA.

Celeron is not old, it's HELLA old. Celerons are really bad for gaming as well, they're meant for office-type use. Hell if you atleast had a PENTIUM 4 it would suffice, but you're pushing your luck with that celeron.

I reckon it would still be "playable", but your game experience would suffer tremendously. Probably tons of choppyness even on the lowest settings, awful map loading time, etc etc.

You can get a pc that's 20 times better for like $500. They're cheap nowadays

Do you know about the holy trinnity of building a PC ....

    CPU-Memmory-GPU...

they need to be ballanced for most games/apps, so only upgrading one of these will not lead you anywhere big ..

Most of the time when upgrading the above, you also need to upgrade your mainboard, and sometimes even HD and or powersupply...

I do this once every 3 years to keep up... most of the time whenever that game comes that i cn't play with decent graphics on decent FPS on my old system.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I think the best advice for those questioning whether they have the specs to run GW2, and since everyone has there own version of what a mid-build system is, is to start saving your money now. By the time ArenaNet finalizes the system specs you should have the money to upgrade, build, or buy a PC. If it so happens that when they release the spec information and your current PC, according to specs announced, can run the game to your satisfaction, you will have a little extra money in the bank.

Itll be higher then the system requirement for GW1 :p

Apart from that I think its too early to ask for that. Anyway, any hardware you buy now can be outdated again when GW2 finally releases. Could still be a year from now.

I put this together on Newegg. It's a pretty good gaming computer, it will last you for a while. There is definitely places you can cut corners to make it cheaper like the hard drive and power supply, but I went for something thats kind of cheap and pretty damn good. Kind of funny/creepy that the price after mail in rebates is $666 lol.

PS. I made this assuming you already have a monitor mouse keyboard etc.

    ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard $115 $25 MIR

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz $165

    G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 $90

    SAPPHIRE 100283-3L Radeon HD 5770 1GB $155 $15 MIR $140

    Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM $88

    ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS $20

    OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ550FTY 550W $65 $15 MIR $3 Shipping

    COOLER MASTER Elite RC-310-BWN1-GP $40 $10 Shipping

    $721

    MIR $666

    CPU: i7-720qm

    GPU: ATI mobility radeon 5730

And please no commenting that laptops aren't for games, it's all i've got.

    thx.

    EDIT:

Well as much as i would like that to be true, because it would let more players enjoy the game, i highly doubt that after seeing the extensive Videocoverage that game recieved over the last months. There is no way in hell, that this game will run on 5 year old system (meaning appr. 1 core or Dualcore @2,4 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, 8800 GT and equivalents) on more than the lowest settings. I mean did you see the masses of hilfghly detailed characters all rendered at once doing some massive open World boss fight? Or Divinitys Reach? I mean, i know that Arenanet know their job very well but they sure as hell can't do miracles. That's for Jesus. ;)

How much RAM? Seems like it should be fine as long as you have enough RAM.

Specs will be released during the last part of the development process. The team lead runs his game on a 3 year old computer. Anet is designing on computers that are at least a few years old.

Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished
