this will only appeal to the hardcore fans of FF series no doubt, i am a fan of the FF myself but not hardcore and this is by far one of the worst mmo's ive ever laid my hands on. good looks but not much more than that, got my key early and been playing since. and now i cant keep myself playing anymore
2 good things about it is the looks and the controls IF you use a xbox controller, otherwise its the utter suck, keyb+mouse feels like ... nothing else ive ever felt..
its rough unpolished in the technical department, the graphics/engine is pretty solid. but theres much work to the actual content to do.
starting to loose hope for a NEW GOOD mmo, not even square could pull it off.. with their humungous budget. but i guess it just shows that simply pushing in cash into a project doesnt make it good.
next hope GW2!!,

yea i'v watched a few vids. lots of cool cut scene but that's about it.
no pvp, combat looks slow and booring, too much cuteness(not a FF fanboy), nothing really innovative, same stuff i'v seen in loads of other mmos. sure the story might be nice but i'm not paying 15$ a month to ONLY pve in a mostly single players mmo. i can do that on my console games. if i'm paying a subscription the game better have lots of variety (pvp, pve, solo, group, quests, exploring, guilds, etc) or be extremely unique. this game doesn't have either.
maybe when it comes out for PS3 i'll give it a try just to say i did.
Only reason I would play this game is that it has no pvp and imo it would be nice to finally get a game where you dont have to listen to and read about pvp whiners complains everywere you look.
I've reached the exact opposite opinion as you. It plays the same as FFXI. THe mouse function was also a complete mess.
You should either play using only the keyboard and keys ijkl as your camara, or use a controller. If it's a good game and you don't mind playing on the controller, then do so. If the game sucks to you regardless of controller or mouse, then move on.
I played 5 hours last night.... loved every single minute of it. Brought me back to my days of being clueless when starting out in FFXI Windurst.
I dont' care if this game is a commercial success, from the looks of it, it's likely going to have the same community as FFXI (hooray beer!). It also feels like FFXI with updated graphics and tweaking of the combat/class system. I loved the music, I loved the NPC dialogue, I loved the beginning quest, etc etc.
There's going to be a lot of surprises and treats in this game that SE purposefully witholds so that you get that "shock" and "surprise" factor.
But the question is far simpler than that, if you had the exact opposite experience as I did, just move on. No hard feelings. I on the other hand can't wait for CE release!
PS - My high res benchmark was 2500 and low res was 4100. Game rusn smoothly on medium settings on 1080p and max settings on 720p. I prefer to use 720p because the icons/fonts is too small in 1080p. Crashed twice in 5 hours (expected). Framerate was solid 45+ most of the time in low res/high settings. No Ui lag because I used xbox controller. Menu's arn't confusing or cumbersome, they can be streamlined a bit more, but it didn't detract from the experience one bit.
I would have like to see a regional chat channel, but that's about it. I also loved figuring things out for myself. The noob feeling is back and in full effect.
Post your specs if your going to share that info
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE (3.4 GHz)
8 GB Kingston HyperX @ 800
Ati Radeon 4890 (1gb)
1 Terabit Hardrive
Windows 7 (64 bit)
All at stock speeds.
I should clarify. AO and Depth of Field turned off for both. Give very little bang in terms of graphics but take away a lot of FPS. on 1080p Medium settings my AA is x2. On 720p it's x8 with everything on except AO/Depth of field.
