They say to truely enjoy the game you need a controller

I don't have a problem with that as I have an N52 and a G13 connected to my rig now. The greater question is which controller should one use to get this maximum effect?

 

Not to leave out the old schoolers... do you keyboard and mousers feel you are as competent as your counterparts who do infact use a controller?

Im waiting to buy until Im sure they will fix the server lag.  There is too much click, wait wait wait wait (did I click the right thing?) wait wait wait, equip fishing pole.  Pretty sure thats not the lack of controller.

I too have a G13 and an N52 and have beta'd this game since Alpha. I tried them both along with keyboard and mouse (eww software mouse ftl) and ended up using an old Hammerhead FX controller from 10 years ago. The only thing that was cool was I had not been able to use the controller for the past 9 years or so since no driver support and I am on Win7 x64. FFXIV has great built in controller support. That said, I really never got used to the controller and felt confined when playing (not as sandbox as I prefer)among other things and so it is not the game for me although the graphics are really pretty. :P

I do recommend using a controller if you play this game. FFXIV is built for console and controller primarily it seems rather then a keyboard/mouse setup. You will be much more comfortable in the long run if you just get a controller and get used to it if you intend to play this game come retail.

My Nostromo and my G13 pretty much did nothing to help this game when it came to controls. I know a lot of people were using their controllers from their xbox and Playstations. I think they used a piece of software called motioninjoy when using the PS controllers or Xpadder (or w/e...something like that anyway). Someone else may be able to help more on using a console controller on PC. Another popular one in the Alpha/Beta forums for FFXIV was the Logitech Dual Action. However I did read a person or two having issues with the Saitek controllers.

Yeah, motioninjoy is the way to go if you wanna connect your sixaxis to your pc.
