I don't like how they focus on stealing from a corporation. That's a little screwed up.

I mean, one of the greatest downfalls of EVE is the rampant scamming and all the spies. Like this isn't going to attract even more? pft. Not that 99.9999% of the people who have seen that video and haven't played yet are actually going to get to the point where they can steal from a corp like that, but still....... it's not going to attract the kind of player you want to make a good community.

I'm quitting the game and have 9bil ISK. Send me any amount and I'll send 3x back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    WTS Imperial Navy Megathron!

    (yup, I've seen it)

Yeah, we really want more of those people. Good Job CCP.

Yeah, saw this one a little while ago. I wish they wouldnt promote that kind of thing. EVE already has problems with greed and revenge and hate etc. But hey... if they want to turn it into the butthole of the internet, i can probably start playing another game.

I think the trailer is brilliant.  It shows that unlike most games, someone behaves like an asshat to you, there's ways for you and you alone to get your revenge.

I've got such a vendetta, got scammed once for 3/4 of a billion.  I hold not only the scammer but his entire corporation responsible.  It happened almost 2 years ago, but I still hold a grudge.

Unfortunately, infiltration's not an option because I don't speak French, but someday I'm going to have enough wealth to make sure I have them wardecc'ed into billions of losses.

In fact, I'm trying to join a Merc corp myself right now, maybe they'll give me a member discount one day.

I'm always impressed when someone manages to pull off a big heist, or even bring down an entire alliance (though I'm not a fan of the disbanding mechanics so much) especially when some folks spend years trying to set it all up.

Point of the trailer is, a single player can in fact have an huge impact on the EVE universe, either in creating an empire or tearing one down, which few games out there can say.

Couldn't have said it better. I think the trailer is great at showing Eve for what it is. CCP tend to make different trailers appealing to different people and this time we just had one appealing to our lust for revenge and deception. The people who dislikes it is not the ones the trailer is aimed at.

I have just seen the trial and cannot stop laughing.

Kudos to CCP to have the balls and shamelessly build their marketing campaign on weak, flawed, poorly designed and coded game mechanics.

There is always something positive, even about things you would rather keep silent for most of the time :)

How is it flawed and poorly coded?

My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.

While this was discussed already a lot, I can sum it up when I say that Alliance was never ever meant to be bound and work as control mechanism for assets and territory ownership. That happened due to necessity only and the alliance system was never improved to reflect the role it was promoted to.

The primal purpose was to manage the standings across the member corporations thus it lacks any security and management tools.

And sometimes, things that happen unintentionally turrn out to have unexpected and desireable results. Perhaps they think its better just to leave them the way they are because it makes the universe much more interesting?

Remember, EVE is a game designed by Griefters, coded by Griefers and supported by Griefers.

Wouldn't have it any other way.  This from my bio in EVE

    Griefers

You might think that the guy who just shot/ganked/scammed you is a "griefer'.

In EVE, your victory means someone else's loss, your fun means their misery, and someone always has to lose.

    Today, you lost.

And in EVE, making you miserable is as good a reason as any to shoot you.

I would agree with this is most any MMO, except Eve. One of Eve's big drawing points for most players that stick with it is the fact that you can scam people, but it's just as easy for any player in the game to do so. In real life scams go down all the time, so why not implement something like this in a video game. Honestly though, if your smart enough it is possible to avoid scams easily. Since I have started playing I have not been scammed by anyone, grant it I have not done so to any else either :P.

EVE is a game in which REAL villains are created.  There are stories, and the game has lore, sure.  But the draw is due to players who do things that are truly villainous, such as stripping entire alliances and dismembering them.  Those alliances themselves can be villified, such as Goonswarm.

This is its appeal.  Real drama that creates conflict on the SAME scale as the stories being told by developers in the lore.  I've heard complaints that 'it's not real content', but it IS.  These things help make the world feel like a truly dangerous and cruel world, as it should be.  These are the events that have made the game as popular as it is.

    What really happened?

    What really happened?

    in resume

    dude was flying

    dude gets killed by gatecampers

    dude friends the gatecamper's alliance

    dude joins the alliance

    dude rises in ranks

dude has a choice, build an empire with the alliance or destroy it

dude takes steals everything from the alliance

alliance has no ressources or anything and gets owned by a 3rd party enemy

    the end

this takes YEARS to do, and it has been done by some.

and it happens on all levels

people have infiltrated small mining corporations that are fairly rich, get to the top, and steal everything and flee.

    people have infiltrated alliances

people have infiltrated dominant alliances or big alliances

    Happens all the time.

Actually the timing is good, because recently the biggest scam in eve history took place. The CEO of  a publicly owned corporation (Titans 4 U) cleverly deceived the trustees and grabbed a majority share-hold of the corporation, and then immediately proceeded to kick out the trustees and make off with the assets of the corporation.

The player was also running some other public services at the time, all of which he obviously liquidated.

Bad Bobby is rumored to have made off with 850 billion isk, which at the current exchange rate (time cards are traded in game) is valued at about $38,000 USD.

Yeah, there are no bugs, only features, right?

Repeating crap won't make it truth, regardless how many times you repeat it.

This is the reason why I quit Eve. It just wasnt fun when so many scams and crap like this around. How can I trust any corp when they are allowed to do this! Any other game would have that player banned and items return before the day was over.

I guess it is a futile fight though. Some people have no taste and will eat whatever they are fed with.
