Controllers is still use in computer, will you play a hockey game with your keyboard? The problem is only because there are some bullhead who just dont want to even try it so they whine because the game is not like they favorite one. It not you who is too old its them who is too young or simply headbull. If someone has at least try it with a controller and still didnt like it, that fine. And those who didnt even bother to tried and waste time bashing the game, all i can say its move along there is other games.

I have no problem with plugging in a gamepad being an option but it should be a option not a necessity or an option that gives you an advantage over those who don't have or don't wish to use the option because they love mouse and keyboard control for this genre of game.

Now if it was some genre where mouse and keyboard is just not suited to the genre say fighting games like Tekken or Super Street Fighter IV  or a harcore flight/space sim(even those have adequate mouse and keyboard controls these days)then that's a different story. But thi sis not the case ther eis no reason why FFIX cannot have a mouse/keyboard control option at least equal to gamepad control.

I am not offended by the thought of a controller on a PC any more than I would be by a mouse on a console as I believe the right tool is always appropriate and I can see the logic in that a well designed game with a controller can work quite well. But, a controller which is fine for twitch games and motion games is very much limited in what it can do compared to a mouse and keyboard.

But that isn't my issue either. Quite simply I don't just sit in front of my system playing one thing non-stop. I tend to play in windowed modes or alt-tab out to a browser and to run other applications including music programs and voice comms for group play and using a controller just gets in the way of doing all that. This is how I use my system and unless the game play and design is just utterly fantastic and amazing I doubt that I would give up the flexibility of using a computer as a computer with all that it can do to the limited flexibility of a console. Do NOT take that as a slam on consoles. Consoles are very good at doing what they do it is just not what I am into.

Then allow me to tell you this before hand.

I hooked up my 360 pad for this one after playing a while with the mouse and keyboard and find I prefer the mouse and keyboard like 1000%

With the pad I kept running into walls trying to control movement and camera seperately with the two thumb sticks. Maybe it's just me, but I don't have this problem in other games like L4D... It's probably because of all the lag, or maybe something wrong in the way I set up my pad to work. If I set camera controls and movement controls to the same stick would it work better?

In the config there is a option to control the sensibility of the controller, maibe you should try setup that. Anyway if you prefer the keybaord and mouse that totally fine. For the camera control i had some problem to at first but i got the grip now.

I use this as my configuration, and I really like it.

Note: This is a "wannabe ps2 controller".

I use the L2/R2 for camera movement sideways, right thumbstick up and down for camera movement up/downwards, I use the L1 to switch passive/fight mode, R1 to lock on target, Select for Auto-Run, the triangle is open menu, circle is cancel, the cross is select/confirm, the square is open map.

I use the left thumbstick for moving my character, and the D-pad for selecting targets.

    Works like a charm.

That might be the case and possibly is good advice but I would rather try it out for myself and see if it is acceptable or not as frequently what I find acceptable others don't and of course the other way around. But, I have to think that if they have gone to the effort to put in the code for keyboard and mouse that they are likely to want to make it work properly. Ultimately if the game is enjoyable enough I might be willing to compromise but more likely I will just shift to playing it on a console but it really would have to be one of the best games I've ever played for that to happen.

But, if I don't voice my opinion then they have no incentive to change so who knows maybe it will all work out.
