I am so psyched to play more FF14 now!
Maybe higher level quests let me roll a 1,000 sided die until I get a 600. Sweet!
EDIT: This was the Gridania version of the quest.

I thought the mimic quests were ok (1 in every city) At least you have to actually READ what is said, which is rare in MMO's. not just click, click, click, run!
Core i5 13600KF, BeQuiet Pure Loop FX 360, 32gb DDR5-6000 XPG, WD SN850 NVMe ,PNY 3090 XLR8, Asus Prime Z790-A, Lian-Li O11 PCMR case (limited ed 1045/2000), 32" LG Ultragear 4k Monitor, Logitech G560 LightSync Sound, Razer Deathadder V2 and Razer Blackwidow V3 Keyboard
yes yes READ being keyword here when they tell you that you have to WATCH what emote they do and do the same... kinda was a pain in the *** that they all did the same emote tho... ... atleast in the forest city they all did the same emote and no clues in the text for 70% of em, me and oh about 6 others stood there spammin all emotes from start and down til we found the right one for each.. in my book thats called "broken" as in needing some patch love
but hey maybe you guys want a blindfold also while you play to really up the "leethardcorewtf" factor ? doesnt get much better , you can LISTEN to what your character is doing, be sure to mute the sound first not to make it too easy
Did the first FF mmo have a similar "quest"? or was it lotro?
Either way, look at the positive side of it... someone actually got paid to think of this, and also someone got paid to approve it =/
If you can convert 'wave once, twice, three times' into 'lookout' you are much smarter than I.
haha agreed. i just did what the others around me were doing.
That quest is annoying. The NPCs all did the same exact emote and the text made no sense. I noticed that some people knew which emotes to do (probably CB testers) and repeated after them. If I had to do it on my own, I'd probably had to go trough the whole emote list for each NPC.
During Festivals LOTRO has a dance /emote quest but if memory serves me right it tells you which emote to use and you have to use it within the time limit given.
Besides, it's one quest and it adds a little more than "kill 5 more rats" Imo.
Hmm, you say they all did the same emote? In cb it did the correct ones when they were showing them.
Yeah, but the other two are painful. The translator obviously didn't understand that he/she needed to use the English words for the actual emotes and for the Gridania one, the kids teaching you don't have the proper emote animations, so you have mistranslated emotes AND no animations to mimic!

All the beginning quests like that are part of the tutorial. It was a fun way to get you to learn how to use emotes. Most of the quests that have you running around the city (panned recently on this board as "dumb run around quests") are to help you get used to the city and become familiar with where things are.
Obviously future quests won't be like these tutorial quests. And yes, I found it fun, especially in the cutscene where I used the emotes on top of that rock. That was pretty funny. Definiately more fun than killing 20 kobolds. The dialogue writing was great as usual and the emotes themselves are so exaggerated and funny.
edit: Ah, I see one of them was bugged. That would be annoying having to guess which one to do. Clearly a bug.
I think that it's a bug. Durring the emote quest in Gridania, the NPCs do the same emote.
This!
The quest could have been fun, but the verbal clues they give have nothing to do with the emotes they want, and they all perform the same emote so you can't base it off what they're doing. Theres literally nothing to do but spam the whole list at each one (or look it up) for the one in Gridania. Gridania, from what I've been hearing, is the least polished of all of them with misspellings and some proper nouns still printing in the original japanese, which is a shame, because its the most interesting of the three in my opinion.
Yes its terrible that you have to beta test a game in beta.
Guild Wars: Nightfall had a quest like this. I thought it was super annoying.
Is there a way to submit bugs and or feedback , last time i looked as an OB player i was not allowed to access most of the beta forums.
The limsa emote quest is complete and is appropriate for a tutorial, the gridania one is most definetely not complete and extremely frustrating, the desert one is sort of a toss up, the first part is ok, the second part where you actually emote at the miners is about as bad as gridania.
Also the dialogue is extremely inconsistent, sometimes its extremely good where characters are individualized and its clear time was spent writing the dialogue, other times its clearly not. One can hope this gets polished up as they localize in this language more, and I assume it would be, but nearly the entire genre is plagued with good stuff up in the front at the low levels and by the mid to late levels its basically filler. That is when they attempt to have a story at all.
We're not even allowed to post in the beta forums. It doesn't seem they want us to do much testing other than stress testing.
It wouldn't be so terrible if we could actually submit bugs reports.
What I'm trying to say here, and please bare with me because I know that it's difficult to bypass the brainwashing, is that SE does not care.
I thought it was a great idea at first then I tried actually doing it and it was stupid. For starters none of the npcs actually did the action, they all just closed their hands together so I couldnt mimic what they were doing. The text had no clues as to what emote I was supposed to do either. Like someone else said clapping hands was lookout I think, The one on the far left had something wierd and I thought it was dumb the answer was "surprised" as that had nothing to do with what she said. I did the one with gridania, I hope that was a bug or mis translated because it was poorly done.
