I played ff11, Ive played eq1 and 2, wow for a while,COH,Matrix online, I can go on, I think I might have played every mmo out there, and I have never seen such a slow moving game, from how long it takes to talk to people, to actually moving through the world, to combat to emotes, This is a game I wanted to love soooo badly, I wanted an mmo with an RPG storyline I could share with friends, this is not it. I am so dissapointed, cancel one more preorder.

You got your storyline, that's why it's "Slooooooww and borrrrring."
I blame TV.
Just kidding. Sort of.
I just see a lot of people who need to have things always moving at a fast clip. Images always changing, action always happening.
I'm not sure if this is you Jericho but I wonder if this is because Final Fantasy is REALLY slow or if it is because you require fast/fast/fast?

remember going to the nightclub (assuming youre around 30 or older) and they'd usually play one complete song b4 starting the next one? well go check out an average club nowadays, lucky if u hear 30 seconds of each song b4 the next one is mixed in.
i really loved ffxi i can see your point in being slow but i do like that what i found boring is waiting for this damn updater to move past 94.8 makes me cry lol
You have hit on a point I hold true for my nephews. The games I enjoy, RPG's mostly, are too slow for them. They enjoy more of the button mashing console games. I enjoy those sometimes myself for something different, I loved Star Wars the Force Unleashed for example but a steady diet of not stop action is too much for an old guy like me now days.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.

So it is slower than being able to afk through "epic" boss fights?
Forever looking for employment. Life is rather dull without it.
Sometimes they get stuck.
What you can try is shutting down the patcher. Then go into the patch directory and delete the file it was trying to patch. Then restart the patcher.
Just make sure you delete the right one
Maybe you shouldn't go to those nightclubs? The clubs I go to, don't do that.
Well, I'm 43.
I remembera time before the internet/Web, before cable, before movie theaters had more than 2 screens, before ATM's and before remote controls. At least before they were in every household as a "regular" item. Not sure when they were invented but I digress.
oh, and before personal computers.
I love fast things as well but have no issues with something taking its sweet time.
I think it's a generational thing.
It's just a shame that people can't let somethign unfold as it was designed and enjoy it as it was intended without having to expect constant movement, constant and fast speed.
Then again, I haven't played this game so maybe it just doesn't work? I sort of doubt it. I think the developers know exactly the game they want to create and kudos to them for doing so.

the torrents never downloaded for me maybe its bitlord i been using for years
i checked the folder i only see thge file so i don't know if i want to try and delete anything less i copy the file and move it somewhere else to try
I tried that but it just slowed down when it hit 94 so guess it didn't work but thank you for the tip
I'm not sold on the fact the the developers intended it to be that way. I think when the decision was made to make this game for two platfroms (console & PC), the developers did the best they could within that frame work. I'm quite sure that if this game was going to be PC only we would see a totally different product today.
They should have made this game a console only game. Instead we have a gimped product that will impact their pc sales and sadly could very well carry over to console sales due to player feedback.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
I agree. The developers don't set out to create a game that is unresponsive and slow. It just needs some tweaking before or after release whatever. No big deal, but it's silly to say that this is how they intended the game to be.
i use bitcomet and the torrent took 15 seconds to download and complete. The update is only 4mb.
That's possbile but it's also possible that they really were making a game where players had time for decisions. From what I understand one has to do several things to prepare for and do during combat.
Since most console games have fast fighting I'm not sure if them making it for the console actually compelled them to slow it down. Unless you ar referring to a technical glitch in having both pc and console?
I'll try it at launch and see.

My problem with the game is not the slow pace its the fact that the game runs slowly. I have a very decent machine and it runs like shit.
Oh and to the people who are getting ready to do it right now. Yes, I know that you can run it on max settings with no lag and maybe dropping the specs of you machine with almost no prompting whatsoever makes it run faster.....
For the buyer I think the best option would be to buy the console version, I have a feeling it will play much better on that platform. Ports are rarely any good and most times than not the PC version gets the worst end of it.

FFXI was slow placed and i loved it. The beta slow-pace seem like "lag" and it is very annoying. If it remains like this, i'll hold off on getting the game for a few months.
I agree with this.
What it looks more like is the fact that SE decided they wanted to make a UI for the main target audience (Japanese console owners) that would also work 'ok' for the small number of PC users. FFXI wasn't a smashing success on PC, it did ok, but not fantastic. Most of the FFXI sales were on the PS2 and a majority of those sales were from Japan (Game was out 1 year earlier in Japan and was already nearing the 500k mark before even hitting beta in the US)
SE just figured that they would design a control/UI scheme that would fit the PS3 flawlessly while giving just enough functionality for PC users who opt to use the Mouse/Keyboard control standard. It's also obvious that the keyboard control scheme was aimed at the standard used in gaming for the Japanese players and not so much the Western standard.
If they seriously cared about making the game for both systems (PS3 and PC) as well as both audiences (Western and Japanese) they could have and would have spent time making a control scheme localization as well as adding hardware mouse support. Thing is they know that the biggest portion of revenue is going to come from the Japanese players as well as PS3 owners, so they focused on them first and foremost. They figured the rest of us could 'deal' with it.
It would have been smarter to just release the game on consoles first and then maybe later port to PC when they could find the time to make it play better.
There are 3 types of people in the world.

2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
From the accounts I've read, the complaints aren't about the story or the flow of the plot, but about sluggish mechanics, likely as a result of a poorly executed port.
I'm an oldtimer too and I cut my teeth on such button-mashing classics as Darkseed, Leisure Suit Larry and X-Com, but some games really are just slow. It's not about MTV attention spans (usually), but awkard design. This game seems to be striking a number of people as awkward to play, but little complaint about the ambience or storyline.
And I remember rabbit ears too...
Do you remember almost breaking them trying to get a UHF channel in?

Tinfoil, coat hangers and string or sitting in 'that one spot' and not moving the whole time just so dad could watch his show....
I was so happy when we finally got cable. I could finally go pee when the commercials came on...

That *would have* been the smart thing to do. I believe Rockstar did that with their GTAx games and I was never dissatisfied with the result. What was the normal delay .... six months? You can do that standing on your head. And from what I recall, a lot of people ended up buying both versions so they could play the console one until the PC version came out. There were few complaints, everyone was satisfied, and Rockstar made a few extra bucks because some who were impatient, bought two copies.
If the PC version simply isn't as polished as the console version, hold back the release until it is or at least have the decency to put out a disclaimer so people know what to expect.
To preface I will start by saying I have never played this game before in my life. I have watched many videos of gameplay and I have been hyped about the game since its inception. Out of the videos I have seen, I do not think I could bare to play this game. While i'm not a person who requires fast paced games/things, there has to be that shock value, and the things that keep you captivated. When I would read interviews from the designers, they really promised a lot. They said it would be ground breaking innovation like we had never seen before. A combat system that was extremely unique, and stellar graphics. So far I believe they have delivered on the graphics. I was fairly impressed with them. Everything else looked pretty cheesy, and nothing appeared to be groundbreaking.
If any of you that are in beta feel that this is not the case I would like to hear your side of the story. Please provide details of what you found to be innovative, impressive, or just flat out blew your hair back. Not sure about the NDA requirements for users either, but I think at this point it would be a good idea to let us know if they delivered.
