PS3 Controller Question

DignaDigna Member UncommonPosts: 1,994

Hey folks.

This is the first time for me plugging a controller into a PC. not exactly the way I WANT to play it but if it works, so be it.

Does anyone have any instructions on the setting of the keys/controller drivers required?

I plugged the controller into my PC and the OS (WIN7 Ultimate 64-bit) recognized it, set it up and didn't blink.

After a couple of minutes, I found FFXIV configuration app on the programs menu. The game (or the config at least) recognized that there was a PS3 controller attached to the PC but I couldn't figure our how to program the buttons.

Not sure if i need a specific driver or if I am doing something wrong.

Any feedback appreciated.

You need to use an external program to install drivers.  Windows recognizes a PS3 controller but doesn't install any drivers.  Most people use a program called motioninjoy (ds3).  Here is the website http://www.motioninjoy.com/download

Make sure you follow the instructions exactly or it won't work.  Also, make sure you are selected to analog gamepad 2 in the motioninjoy program.

After you install and enable in ds3, you can adjust your ffxiv config file to work for you.

Do you know if this also applies to the XBOX360 Controller?

No this does not, so long as you have the WIRED Xbox controller windows will install all the drivers you need for the controller to work and the config file for FF XIV will register it properly.

Trying to use a standard WIRELESS Xbox controller will not work, even if you're plugging it in with the plug n' play charge kit the controller will never work as a USB powered one.

Awesome, thanks for the reply.    I've never played an MMO with my 360 controller before and figured why not give it a try, it might be fun, at the very least, it's something different.
