I've been having some serious issues on my Lancer when it comes to levequests. It seems that many of the times when I begin a levequest and go to the location on my map where the spawned mobs are, they are most always grouped together. This makes it very tough when playing alone, at least for me at this point. I have had multiple quests ask me to kill 6 of a certain kind of a mob, and often time even some of the mobs that I can kill in one hit, when they are piled together like that, can seriously do some major damage, even potentially kill me. Harder mobs have downed me in a matter of seconds when attemping to break them up, because quite simply, if they are too close to eachother, it wont happen. I've tried standing around waiting for the mobs to move, but often times one will move either not far enough away from the rest of the cluster to make his buddies out of aggro range, or more of the mobs will go in the same direction as the first one that initially moved. Does anyone else have trouble with this? I've had a few where I literally had to use almost the entire alloted 30 minutes trying to maneuver the mobs around so that I could take them 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 at the most. It's really frustrating and annoying.
Secondly, I have attempted going out and fighting some normal mobs when I am out of levequests for the day. How does the con system work in this game? Yesterday I was in an area where some lowly quest mobs spawned for daily levequests, Mushroom guys in the forests of Gridania, and I stumbled upon some kind of monkey. This happened to my brother with some other types of mobs in the deserts in Ul'dah. Basically we have both gotten our asses handed to us by mobs in the newbie area that for some reason can hit for between 300-1000 points of damage in 1 round, one-shotting our characters. Not sure what the point of this was for SE, seems kind of silly to have mobs like that roaming around in the newbie area. These kinds of things are very frustrating, especially in a new game, to a new player. Having played most MMO releases over the years, I cannot understand reasoning behind much of what SE has done with this game.
My next question is what the hell are you supposed to do after you are out of levequests? I've tried some crafting quests, I was bored to death, and I'm not a big crafter in MMOs, so wtf else am I supposed to do after I finished my measly 4-5 battle levequests for the day? I don't understand the direction of the game at this point, and I feel like lower levels is when the developers should be taking you through the motions of building up some kind of world conflict story that you are supposed to be apart of. After the intro sequence and the silly run-around-the-city quests in the beginning, I haven't seen anything else having to do with the story. I'm only physical rank 9 at this point, but I'm wondering what direction the game is going to take moving into higher levels. I seriously do not want to spend my money, and time, leveling up to figure out it's just more of the same, because thus far, it's not extremely fun by any means, and were it not a free open beta, I would certainly not be participating. I'm hoping some others can shed some light on these issues.

Have you tried maneuvering around the groups of mobs and using your tp attack that hits all mobs between you and the target?
I have. Unfortunately unless its a mob that dies from 1 hit, that particular action does damage in the mid 100s, to some of the mobs I get levequests for, thats not even 1/4 of their HP, and I would be dead within 2 attack rounds facing more than 2 mobs, especially some of the ones that can cast poison DoTs on me as well.
Yeah but there still has to be something more than just a few leves and the main arc unless the main arc will be giving us 90% of our leveling exp. Is the rest of it just go kill random mobs? Or is there another type of strange questing mechanic that we are missing?
and I don't know about a tp attack. I haven't found out how you get more skills.
All die, so die well.
I think eq2 and wow were the first mmos I played where this wasn't the case.
You get skills as you level the Lancer class, and you equip them in the menu by selecting Polearms and equipping it to an open slot. The TP skill he is talking about is Skewer. It runs through enemies as long as they are lined up, but I find that it is somewhat hard to maneuver the enemies to be perfectly in line with eachother. My brothers gladiator has a circular blade swipe move that is basically an AOE, id much rather have something like that than an ability that only hits enemies directly in front of you. Thus far I'm not impressed with the Lancer class, I'm probably going to re-roll in Ul'dah where my brother is. The city is a lot smaller and easier to navigate, and the field outside the city is much more open. Gridania's forest is so linear I feel like I'm playing a single player FF game.
When you level your weapon check from the menu the 2nd option I think then there's a long box when you click it it will show a list of all weapons you have choose the weapon you have lvled and it will show you all skills you have.
You have a limit on how many skills you can equip depending on your weapon lvl you just need to click on an empty slot then click on the new skill and equip in main hand.
I have the same problem with multiple mobs. I have tried to wait till they are all seperate and grab one at a time, but it seems like there is no way to get just one. I tag the loner and at least one from far away from them agros too. For example say there are 3 mobs. I wait till one wanders away from the other two, tag it and then ONE of the others will agro while the mob right next to it sits there and doesn't agro. I am not sure if this is cause I dont understand how agro works in a FF game, or lag maybe? Have had to just kill one while 5 others crush me. Run back and kill one more while 4 kill me, repeat till all are finaly dead. These are solo leve's also. Getting poisoned while this is happening is fun times too
As for conning the mobs there's a colorded symbol to the left of their name when you target them. Seems to be colored in the traditional fashion green for easy, red for hard. I certainly understand what you're talking about as for facing multiple enemies though, my wife and I have been duoing the leves and if I'm attacked by more than 2 mobs I'm KO'd pretty quick. Hopefully they'll consider tweaking the damage output from leve mobs as it pertains to solo and band difficulty, then again it might get easier as you get some attribute points distributed.
Supposedly some mobs are supposed to follow some type of group mentality, so getting one alone is likely to be difficult.
I play a marauder so I just AE them :P
Otherwise i haven't had to much trouble with leve's, I usually boost it up to rank 3 difficulty as solo seems far to easy. I guess you could try getting a ranged attack/spell to pull with, dunno if it will aggro the others though.
Also if you haven't noticed, exp is soley gained from killing mobs, even during leves, you aren't rewarded exp upon completion you just get a bonus for the mobs you kill during that time. Exp'ing is thus, obviously the main form of progression in the game.
I would reccomend leveling up Conjury so you can get Cure at level 4.
I've had the same issues as well - is it a bug? is it working as intended? I dunno. But having that heal has been extremely helpful.
While abit off the topic but, this is taken from the manual.
"During the Beta Test, the list of guildleves made available by the Adventurers’ Guild will change once every two hours (Earth time). Until that list is updated, players may not accept the same levequest twice, nor may they return an incomplete levequest having accepted it.
Failed levequests may be reattempted immediately upon renewal of the guildleve list."
&
"Enemy Toughness
An enemy’s degree of difficulty is represented by the color of the circle located in the extreme left portion of the unit frame. This display takes into account whether the player is solo or a member of a party.
Red – Incredibly Tough
Orange – Very Tough
Yellow – Tough
Green – Decent Challenge
Blue – Easy Prey"
So - at least those 2 things are worth keeping in mind (I'm still not sure about the GuildLeve thing. I did my 4 LeveQuests 2 hours ago before maintenance and will do them again now if they're up (which according to this they should be). And again in 4hours I'll check the adventure guild again to confirm this 100%.).
I must admit though that while I haven't died at all on GuildLeve's yet (only once while exploring , curse that Antling Digger that hits a lvl 9 for 1000 dmg =/) the guildleves can be rather challenging even at solo. I'd wager it's something they'll iron out during the open beta. (Hopefully).
This is because not all mobs are singular mobs. Some are, as was stated, packed in a group, thus they will attack as a group. Later on you might even get aggroed or ambushed by a pack of mobs. It's SE's attempt at making the mob AI more versatile.
If mobs cluster close together then you are probably dealing with a pack. The battle log will also tell you you are attcking/being attacked by "a group of..."
Yeah I've just found that with the Leve's, the mobs are yours and yours alone, no fighting for spawns with the hundreds of players in the starting areas. Also I don't have to worry about getting 1 shotted by a mob that I have no idea how powerful it is. I checked the con symbols, thanks, I'll definitely take note of that.
Ok cool, thank you for the info. So how do we deal with these packs? I only had time to get one mob out of 6 dead before I died. These were green con, not yellow even con also. Maybe packs are only to be taken on if they are blue con? I can understand the appeal of a group of mobs attacking you, can be exciting, but if you are dead that fast its not much fun. Maybe the packs just need to be ballenced.
Yeah haha I've had a few times where I had to run into the packs, kill one, and then die, just to split them up, wait for death debuff to wear off and rinse and repeat until I finish the quest. Which is why I've had a couple of my levequests take almost the whole 30 minutes from standing around regening HP.
Since you are talking about conning mobs, i figured out the basics for conning them, however what about the mobs that have no symbol. I was eaten up badly by a couple of bats the other day that had no con symbol at all. I also haven't figure out how to tell when a mob was KOS. When you have nasty higher level mobs mixed in with some lowbies it can be tough to figure out!
