Beta = all of the bad, none of the good?

One of the reasons i wanted to try this game is because I heard people speak highly of the story and content of ffxi.

SE apparently is holding out all of the storyline progression in the beta.   If story and content are also the things that this game is really brining to the table then all we are seeing in beta is the game with the absence of all of the strong points.

Does that sound about right or am I  grasping for straws?

I hope that they are holding out on us.  I had a blast with the main storyline quests.. until they stopped and there were no more quests.  If I knew for sure that there were lots of interesting storyline quests that didn't have big breaks between them then I'd buy for sure.

Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.

SE is only using beta to test general content and gameplay.

When it comes to Final Fantasy people are as picky as they can get. MMORPG or not, people demand the utmost quality from Square-Enix if they are to put "Final Fantasy" in the title.

That being said, I am not excusing S-E from making a bad game; nor am I saying the game itself is bad. I like to think people are just a little fed up with the.. how can I say this? "Less than subpar" games that have come out in the past 2 years. Star Trek Online is a good example of where a good idea can go wrong.

You also have to take into consideration that there are many different degrees of "Bad" and "Bad" can mean different things to different people. Say for instance the game did not feature a easy to understand tutorial. This would be considered a very bad thing to newcomers. but seen as a waste of resources to fix for veterans.

I like to think focusing on the bad things is healthy in MMORPGs today. I'd like to reiterate what has been said countless times on the forums here. "Nothing gets fixed unless someone speaks up." This could never be truer. While many game designers are gamers themselves, they aren't a large demographic of players, and therefore their idea of a good game might not really be in the best interest of the larger market.

S-E unfortunately has a strange reputation of being slow with its responses to player outcry. It took them several years to stamp out the Gil farmers, for instance. I like to think S-E has learned a lot over the years. That being, to make a successful MMORPG, you don't necessarily need to start out perfect. You just need to be willing to fix things and make changes based on your player's feedback. Ultimately, it's up to the players to decide if a game is worth playing and spending money on. Not S-E.

The MMO community is sick of nothing but shit coming out since November 23, 2004. That's all we've been getting ever since.

Whatever, i sure as hell enjoyed the lag disconnects and hour wait times to get back on the wow servers trying to raid blackwing lair.  I guess nobody remembers that kind of shit.

I don't think there has ever been a 'clean' mmo launch, and the issue above was like a year after launch.
