Okay, whoever thinks that 500k subscriptions is a lot must be crazy. For a corporate company that money is trash. Blizzard made more money off selling flying ponies than an amount like that.
500k x 12, work it out dumbass, more money a month than you will make in a lifetime
and the nail in the coffin for the WoW lovers who consistantly dig at other MMO's saying lizzard listens blah blah.
If FF14 reaches even 500k subs, look at the profit, now look at how many expansions, content, upgrads, they release as the result of making all that money,
as for blizzard..... whats the lvl cap? how long ago was it changed, ho many expansions have they had, and how often is new content released. NOW how many subs do they have in comparison?
if WoW is so grat and blizzard so awesome, why is it that the money you spend is going into someones pocket, were in SE case, its going into your game without even half the amount of subs.

Whoa, no need to get all defensive lil fanboy. And seeing how I make 140k+ with a bonus and already have close to 800k in my bank, I think that'd be no issue.

In case you havent figured it out yet, people are going to complain for as long as people can talk (or type in this instance).
It wouldnt be so bad if half of them acted reasonable but most of them complain about highly exaggerated problems they know nothing about or things they've heard about from other people then make a mountain out of mole hills. On top of that they expect 7 years of content updates to be in the game at launch, if it were up to these people WoW wouldve had to launch with Wotlk or it wouldve failed. With players like these its a wonder ANY Mmo ever succeeds.
On top of that they try to base the final game off of CLOSED Beta content. And before anyone whines that Open Beta is usually the same as the finished game, keep in mind that SE doesn't work that way, and the Open beta STILL keeps alot from Players, not only that but keep in mind patchs and updates will continue to improve the game.
My point is its a constantly ongoing process but people have come to expect that they be given everything right out of the gate without waiting for it, and then if they don't they throw a fit and call the game a failure. Be patient with the game, if you don't like it now, come back in 5 or 6 months and then see.
And if you really just hate the game, why are you coming to the forums complaining about it and telling others not to play?

I actually don't care about the negativity on these boards. All I care is having a nice stable population with a good community to enjoy the game. I'm pretty sure FFXIV will have it. So, i'm very much excited for FFXIV.
OK I just wanted to make something clear on ff11's success.350,000 isn't a lot in Asia for a FTP game.FF11 however, is a subscription based game that's 15 a month. It is not ftp in Japan. Also, almost all the subscribers are in Japan.Japan is not big on mmos or PC gaming. The video game market is completly differant in Japan, then in China,Singapore,South Korea, etc. Those are where most of the numbers come from with all those asian ftp mmos.Again, the MMO market is NOT big in Japan. For a PTP MMO, 350,000 is pretty damn good, especially for an old MMO.Most new mmos don't even have that many. Not to mention during it's peak, it had way more then 350k subs.FF11 was a success, period.FF11 and 14 are more Western then they are asian MMOs and the target audience is not the same as asian grinders you see coming out of China and Korea. Not all of Asia is the same, esp Japan.
I'm sorry FFXIV won't make 500k subs, if you think that.. you are more deluded that you think. Until the PS3 version gets started in March 2011, then maybe they might manage it.
But by then i think between 150-200k will be left on the PC, and i'm being generous. The game needs a few patches before launch to tie up some performance issues and the usual. (for me resolution and changing the incredible fisherprice like configs do pretty much nothing to the game.) I mean how simple do they think we are, even the F2P MMORPGs have advanced settings so we could have fun.
Performance is woeful at the moment. i'm honest. Good news though, it does work with Vista SP1 for those that wondered, and the performance is better than SP2.. i kid you not. Won't install from the crappy thing you download, but inside that is only 58 meg (i know inside a 112 odd file there's 58 meg)..... use that, hey SP1 works better...
i laughed, i found it amusing....
so yeah between europe and the US, they'll take in around 200k subs by the end of the year, the PS3 might change that... but with more MMORPGs (guild wars 2, star wars etc etc) incoming before that happens.... who knows what may occur. Console owners may not take to MMO's at all.... we'll probably know with DCUO before (again) PS3's FFXIV gets a lookin.
To SUm up FFXIV feels rushed, looks rushed.... and it just won't be able to compete... to be honest.. anyone who thinks otherwise has never played an MMO or is new to the genre.
WAR's engine played better, and AoC had less performance issues......
i did like FFXIV's start though.... load, instance, load, cutscene, instance, load, cutscene, instance, cutscene.... harbour.... instance, load, cutscene...
took 2 solid hours, to actually get read to quest.... so much reading and crap... with not much of a "who do i talk too", just look for the person with "one name above their heads", the rest were just fluff.
poor, very poor....
lets not talk about the UI, and the "Inventory" screen.. or worse the awful paperdoll (have you guys seen it) omg... what is this... amateur hour.

USA:
This week
+ 38,706 PC = 79,937
+ 3,403 PS3 = 18,007
+ 42,109 = 97,944 Total
OMG last month there was 147,000 preorders so 50,000 cancelled?
EDIT: Whew it actually had 164,729 preorders as of Sept. 4th.

Pre sales are nice and all but they really don't tell the whole story. A lot of people will be picking this game up the day it comes out,
The big concern is that month after the intiial launch where people will have to decide whether to pay to play or hold off for awhile. Most mmo players dont mind the expense of the game cause that free month for them makes up a huge portion of it.
Which version are the pre sales for anyways, I dont see this being worth 90$ personally, 40$ I could handle.
