when arent the servers down. lol between the problematic disconnects, servers going down, the graphical issues, the sluggish amatuerish UI, and software cursor problems, what can you expect. I am hoping it improves, and improves fast. WIth so much competition in the MMO genre, you have maybe one chance to make a first impression.
I know, so many server issues, its almost like its in beta or something. Unacceptable.
not unacceptable. but it coming close to the point that these issues are effecting its positive standing. beta or not, alot of these issues should of been handled prior to an open beta. Secondly, the game is being released in the next few weeks, any issues present now, might or might not be fixed before release. The server issues are the biggest hinderance so far. then the sluggish UI, and the software cursor ( dont even know why they even decided not to put in a hardware cursor yet)
in the end I may buy the game, eventually. until then i will let everyone else muck and trudge through the problems after release. so when i come in I wont have to worry about it....maybe lol.
Game feels like a mess to me. Not even considering the constant downtimes during this OB, the UI is awful for mouse/keyboard users, the mouse cursor lags, the patcher is nearly useless for many people, client performance is shoddy, and the game cannot even be minimized without it crashing. Hopefully there are fixes that are planned to be implemented on release day, because I would expect more from SquareEnix than what I'm seeing right now.
Umm yeah, dont have any of those issues except the downloader, just you man!
Anyway, I see green dots on Cornelia World and Kashuan World - its coming back!

I concur, looks like some of the servers are coming up. It was a doozy of an outage, though - about 8pm - 1am where I'm at, a solid 5 hours of unplanned emergency outage!
I'm glad it happened. Why? Because the whole point of stress test is that we have our outages now so when release rolls around we won't have to deal with them so much.
Well done, everybody, it seems the population of FFXIV is more than adequate to produce some serious server stress stress!
Come to think of it, right before they went crashing down, I noticed that even most of the new servers were on 3/3 chocobos right before it went crashing down. Square-Enix is looking at a much higher demand than they appear to have initially planned.
What exactly is it with the IT guys that work on game servers anyway! Never fails, whatever server is designated as an RP server is ALWAYS the very last to be worked by them! What, they didnt get an E-RP last night?!?

Outside of that, are you saying that you can minimize the game without it crashing and the mouse cursor doesn't lag for you?
You guys really should use a bit torrent client to download the patches instead...never takes more than 10 seconds for me. The whole client took a few hours.

I was actually being a smartass there, but in reality the downloader is atually the only issue i have. I run in windowed mode because i have 3 monitors and like to do other things while I play, like read on the game fansite, learn recipes, read forums on tactics, and the game crashes if you click on a different screen is the same as doing an alt-tab on a single monitor machine. BUT, it doesn't if you run in windowed mode, so I concider this a non issue for me right now, actually forever to be honest, since I always play every game in windows mode.
The mouse curser only lagged for me until I got my graphics settings tweeked for my system specs, now it doesn't at all. I dont use it for anything but the right mouse button to turn while moving anyway, so not an issue on both sides, no lag and dont use. It's taking me a little bit to get used to using my right hand on the numberpad for movement instead of the WASD + Arror keys I'm used to (I never used a mouse for movement, and I'm not a clicker in other games). I do have to say though that as I learn the 8-4-6-2 with camera on 5-9-3, targeting, menu, and control all off the one hand on the numberpad is quite convinient. It frees my left hand up for dedicated combat commands instead of half targeting/movement and half combat controls. So yeah, I'm sure once I master the new setup it will be sweet.
Oh and one other note, if you dont use your mouse to activate the menu system, if you use the - key, enter key, and arrow/pageup-down keys, it moves like lightning, the entire UI moves fast if you keep that damn mouse out of the picture entirely. Think of the game UI as you would a gamepad controller. You move your pointer to the button you want, click it, scroll thru the menu to your next selection, click it, when your done you make it all go away until you need it again. It works quite well actually, all you have to do is stop trying to force this games UI to work like the older games. The mouse support sucks yeah, but I do think it was added in as an afterthought when it really didnt need to be there at all to play. Kinda of a 'fine, there, you have mouse, you happy now?'. Personally I think they should have left it out completely until they included hardware support for it.

well if your having trouble patching dont worry, I got both patches done and its still giving me the same lobby error lol
lol me too, and crashing a lot.
Amazingly the patcher finished pretty quickly for once, but I still can't play... giving me lobby error.

I always try the patcher first and if it freezes up for more than a few minutes I use utorrent.
yep, i thinnk they might have fixed the patcher in this down time..... lets hope. Still can't play though.
