The real intentions...

http://www.ffxivcore.com/topic/12068-balancing-character-growth-in-beta-3/

"Firstly, the concept for FINAL FANTASY XIV was to design a system of character progression that offers meaningful advancement for those with limited time to dedicate to playing."

Aside from the whole fatigue system, the director basically said the focus of the game will be for the casual player.

This dissappoints me because when I hear stuff like that, usually a game gets too easy and boring, hence my issues with Star Trek Online.

What are your thoughts, beta players?  Is the game too simplified?  Does it seem like you have millions of things to do all the time like it was in FFXI?  I think some comparisons to that game might help because I did play that one for a while and loved it.

There isn't any content in the beta save guildleves...

  • JenadaraJenadara Member Posts: 95

I don't think that was their intention for the UI.  It is a playstation game first, so it will have some features that favor the gamepad.  I'm talking about the game itself really.

There aren't any mindless mail carrier (WoW style) type quests besides guildleves. Fixed that for you.

We don't know yet Jena. Accounts are varried. But untill we experience the release, with all the content and the full leveling progression and the difference between what the casual can obtain and what the hardcore can, we wont know.

But if you want my opinion, that was PR and this game will be relatively hardore in terms of acheiving the best returns.

Ew, no wow comparisons please. :P I never played that game and never will.  Are the guildleves challenging?  Are there a bunch to choose from?

As do I, afterall Square created the foundations of FF11, SE just did expansion on top of that. SO heres to hoping that since they had that experience , they can also be innovative like Square was. Now we saw SE put out FF13 which dashed the hopes of many FF fans, lets hope FF14 does not dash the hopes of us FF MMO fans.

Crafting definitely isn't for the casual player. Trust me.

crafting is for the type of person who makes sure their linkshell has a dedicated crafter for each profession so they can move forward and progress as a group.. is what I understand

Why are you posting such trolling comments?  You aren;t going to play and you will be terribly missed but we have all already mourned your loss. So you can go shave your back hair now.

ive enjoyed everything ive seen so far. the things i dont undestand are the significance of the elements part, the days you select for your moon and sun days, the whole guildleve things and crafting. my main confusion is on guildleves and crafting.

i think i figured out the guildleves thing somewhat. you get the quests and go the area they are for and then activate them and complete them on whateverl level you want to complete them at. so far this is the only type of quests ive found and it looks like im limited to 8 of them for some reason and they dont disappear out of the log.

I can not figure out crafting to save my life. dont know where to begin, dont know how to get it setup or anything.

i eventually figured out how to equip my new attacks after reading a random post on here.

Overall im basically confused on what to do and where to go but i will admit i have done very little research on this game.

You are going to have to level 2 -4 jobs depending on which crafting you pick. Some are interconnected and require you have certain jobs leveled to be able to make some items.

Good site for some basic recipes. Some have changed but most are accurate.

You know what, we have far more in common than you might think, because that's exactly my sentiment and the reason why i don't have so much faith in SE anymore. Since early to mid-00's games from this developer got worse and worse every year culminating in that extreme insult called FF XIII, which is (apart from graphics) the single most dissapointing RPG i have played since, well "Beyond the Beyond". It's an absolute disgrace for the franchise and a sign that someone at SE really has lost touch with gaming today. Perhaps i'm too pessimistic but the FF XIV-Beta gave me too much unpleasant flashbacks, especially regarding FF XIII. Perhaps that's why i'm so vocal about my dissapointment.

thanks for the site. i guess what i mean is, i dont even know how to get to the crafting windows etc.. i dont even know how to get started.

  • FortencFortenc Member Posts: 427

I'm the opposite of most everybody.  I semi-enjoyed FFXIII.. UNTIL IT OPENED UP AND THE STORY STOPPED FLOWING (however bad and emo the story was).

There is no crafting window, really.. you need to go into your city and buy the tools required do do that craft, a main hand and an off hand, equip them in the Abilities and Equipment section of your menu, and then under 'actions' you'll get the option to Synthesize.  You click that and you can start attempting to build things.  Very backwards, I know.

Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.

I understand , but posting hate is counterproductive. My heart is in the game, like yours, untill I am 100% sure its a steaming pile. But even at that point, which you have not reached, I would not go on mmorpg.com and lambast the game. I would probably make one thread where i posted that i am disapointed , talk about the hopes i had had and where it let me down, and others would understand because I did so without the douchebag persona.

And lately, well previously, you were really channeling the poopsock. :) But we can still be friends.

Its not trolling its a sad fact. On another note I was a pre order Ps3 peep anyways. So now I am on the Pc fence because I really don't want to wait 6+ months and get involved in the Ps3 Beta... Lastly I probably have more logged time on FFXI then you have.

Besides I think S.E is confused on what an actual "Casual" gamer really is.

I guess the people you are talking about are so inept that they can't comprehend simple instruction provided in the manual. You are basically saying that casual game = retarded person.

Wow man, I should try a game from a company that made a 20 hour boss battle and has worse community relations next to SOE!

When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?

That' is my experience of FF14 as a whole. They did a lot of new stuff. But they made it backwards and made a lot of simple things very hard to do or accomplish.

Im not talking about lore or graphics but just the interactivity of the game itself.

SE has bad community relations cause they dont give a flying **** about unsolicited ideas; they have a vision. They do listen to problems in other areas but not things integral to their vision. HELL YES 20 hour boss lol, thats epic!
