I can barely kill one of those squire like things in the forest when you exit the starting zone. I made a Plainsfolk lancer.
There must be something I'm missing or should be doing...

What color is the dot to the left of it's name? If it isn't blue, green or yellow then you are doing it wrong...
Enemy Toughness:
An enemy’s degree of difficulty is represented by the color of the circle located in the extreme left portion of the unit frame. This display takes into account whether the player is solo or a member of a party.
Red – Incredibly Tough
Orange – Very Tough
Yellow – Tough
Green – Decent Challenge
Blue – Easy Prey
Probably not doing anything wrong. It's just too tough for you.
Wherever you started, you should follow the main quest line. The cut scenes tell you what you should do. One of which will be to talk to the npc's that give the guild leves (sp?). Mobs are pretty weak in the first few that you do and help you get used to combat.
After lvl 5 or so those squirrels will be no problem! LOL
Hehe, if I knew the help guide links and such Id provide them to you. But yes, poking them with the sharp bit is always a good idea. :P
I love snails.
I love every kinda snail.
I just want to hug them all, but I cant.
Cant hug every snail.
A lot of lancers seem to complain they're having trouble..from what i've heard, using heavy thrust to root an enemy, backing up out of their range, and using heavy thrust again seems to work best. Attacks will break bind on hit, which is why you should use heavy thrust even while it's already bound.
