It's fun considering it's harvesting, which generally doesn't require much interation. Similar, but not quite like XI's
A little slider goes side to side and you basically need to tire the fish out if one bites your lure, but technically I think it's just about finding the "sweet spot" on the gauge and making sure you land there till you make a catch. I think anyways.
Lot's of videos on youtube of fishing in action, id say check those out.
Personally i did not find it fun in FFXi,especially when the skillups were god awful. It is a much more intense minigame in ffxIV.
it involves 3 items to satart...rod/jig/bait or lure.
involves a line depth and has a slider to make your selection.
Then it involves a meter selection with messages that hint at weather you stopped the meter in a good spot or are close or way off.Basically they figure the meter has two sweet spots at around the 25-33% spot and the 66-75% spot. You have two chances at the meter, you need to be right the second time or lose the catch.
What makes it real annoying ,especially in Beta is that i personally could not stop the meter with any consistency because of lag.Sometimes the meter would stop on the oppsite side of where i tried to stop it,the lag really was that bad. Here is the sticky about Beta,my ping was not that bad,but it is funky,i send at incredible pings of like 30[unrealsitic imo]but receive at anywhere from 300>600+.I doubt any of the lag will change at all come release time, because i played worse pings than those in FFXI.
Imo it really isn't that fun, just another keep everything a secret until people figure it out then it becomes common internet knowledge.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

You definitely need to use the keyboard (or controller) for fishing. Using the mouse is really really hard.
