Hi everybody,
I am begining to have some doubts about FFXIV but I promised myself I will buy this no matter what so my question is :
Which gamepad is best for playing FFXIV , I managed to dig up from old box when I was playing on PC games that required gamepad and I have this one http://www.testfreaks.com/game-console-accessories-controls/saitek-ps2700-rumble-pad/ I just wanted to ask if its enough or which you think will be better.

I would just stick with a xbox360 gamepad.

If you don't mind using a 360 controller then use it. I haven't heard of anybody having trouble with it. My problem is that I hate they way that the left stick is set oddly off to the far left where the dpad should be. I much prefer the feel of a PS3 controller.
I had trouble getting the steelseries to work correctly even with driver. I have heard that the logitech ps3 controllers work fine. I picked up a Nyko Core ps3 controller for $20 and it has turnned out to work fine on windows 7 without any driver installs though I never did uninstall the steelseries driver.
All die, so die well.
I have a Playstation 3 so i use my Dualshock 3 for my PS3 and PC. If you actually have one, check motioninjoy to make it work on PC.

If you have to buy a new controller i wont recommend the Dualshock 3 unless you absolutly love the feeling of the controller because it can be tedious to make it work.
What i recommend is any controller specifically made for PC or the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows.
Neither, keyboard ftw
anything with a dpad and 2 analog sticks will work.
i use logitech cordless rumblepad 2
I like the X360 in general, but the crosshair is not precise and comfortable enough to play long hours of a menu-intensive game.
So I'd recommend anything Dual Shock (PlayStation controllers), using a USB-PS converter for PS2 pads, direct USB plug for PS3 ones with MotionInJoy drivers.
The point is that you get comfortable sticks and crosshair button, because in the end it matters for your fingers (and also if you don't want to die in rage when the X360 goes "right" instead of "down" and makes you lose again seconds browsing the slow UI).
I use my PS3 pad and it's perfect.

I've got a cheap Logitech Dual Action gamepad. Works great.
I've also used my 360 controller when I'm not using it on my 360 :P Mostly likely any pc gamepad will do the trick. Just plug it in and boot up the config exe.
Cheers!
Dittos!
I bought this

...... for playing Mario Kart, not FFXIV

Boy, thats some logic....
The fact that people want to play this consol port alpha test on a computer with a gamepad is mind boggling to me. Not trying to troll, just wondering why even invest time/money in a game which is clearly intended to cater to the PS3 players. This would be a pretty cool game on a PS3 where you sit on a couch and use a pad and casually play from time to time, but on a computer... I don't know, just seems kind of defeating the purpose of computer vs. consol.

Console port alpha test? No, you're not trying to troll at all. Anyways, the game works fine with keyboard only but at the same time I appreciate being able to use a controller. If I'm in a group where I need to communicate a lot I use the kb. If I'm out on my own I lean back in my chair and use a gamepad. I don't feel this whole computer vs. console thing. I'm a gamer and it's all good to me as long as I'm having fun.
To the OP, I've been using a Madcatz 360 knockoff which has been pretty good but one of these days I'll hook up one of my dualshocks and try it out.
Lol, I didn't mean it as an insult. People all over the net are calling it that not just me.
The point is people are looking to upgrade their computers for hundreds of dollars to play this consol port and you can just wait a few more months and get the PS3 version and it's a done deal. They are obviously gearing it for consols anyway so... plus the PS3 plays blueray movies and with a firmware upgrade shortly going to be the cheapest 3dblueray option. They are just releasing it on the computer to open the market for themselves to more profits, but that isn't doing any players any favors at all.

Yar xbork 360 controller wired or the windows reciever either way. It's also sweet for web browsing and emulators (the older version of Xpadder (the free one) is a must have too).
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
I've been using the Saitek Cyborg V3 Rumble Pad. I bought it because it works with the PS3, PS2, and PC. I don't know if you need another controller for any of those systems but if you do it's not a bad controller. For some reason though in a couple of games I've played it seemed like the left stick would sometimes act as if I was slighty pushing on it when my thumbs were not even on it. It's only happened twice and it wasn't a really big deal. If you're more comfortable with how the 360's controllers sticks are set up you can also flip the one side around to have the dpad near the right joystick. This controller has worked flawlessly with FFXI, I'm not sure about FFXIV though as I have not played it.
I forgot to post the link lol. I got it at gamestop:

I own a 360 it works for other PC games as well or if you know somone with an RROD xbox you can buy the controllers from him
the xbox360 controller dpad is a pain in the ass, and for games with a lot of menu navigation unusable. i myself hate controllers with round outside shapes, it gives too much pressure to my thumb socket and starts too hurt after some time. im using a ps3 dual shock 3 for some time now and im happy with it.
