Most frightning thing I have seen?  Or experienced?

Experienced, that got my heart racing and such:

Eve online, I was a newer player, maybe 1 or 2 months.  I joined a friendly "guild" whatever they are called, corperations perhaps?  but I digress, needless to say, they were 26 jumps from my current position.

They convinced me to transfer my "base of operations" over to their "area".  This was in a high-sec area, but I was still a complete noob, and wasn't paying attention.

So, I load almost all my possesions of mine up in my biggest ship, (save a few tiny ships I don't use), and proceed to start jumping systems to get to where my "guild" is.

Now, I was new, and wasn't paying too much attention, but I went through a low-sec systen, and low and behold there is a "guild" camping the warp gate.  They immedietly warp scramble me, and proceed to "pirate" me, demanding  50 million ISK or face destruction.

At this point, my heart is beating fast, fearing I am about to lose everything.  Thinking I can outsmart these player pirates, I tell them, "Well, my corperation might be able to help me with the money, give me some time and I will see if I can get it together".  They humor me and allow me some time.

Me being new, and thinking I am outsmarting them, I log out, not really knowing how long my ship will stay suspended in space before it "logs out".

I go to bed hoping to the game gods that I was able to log out in time without getting destroyed.

Sadly, that was not the case and as I logged in the next day, I was floating in a pod. (luckily my pod logged out after they blew me to smitherines).

The pirate was even so nice to send me a message telling me that if I had stayed logged in, they probably would have let me go and not destroyed me.

I lost everything I owned, but luckily I was not pod killed, and replying back and forth a few times with the player pirates, they actually turned out to be pretty cool and gave me some money to buy a new ship to replace the one I had.

Eve online got my heart racing several times though, when you are getting bombared by massive amounts of ships, it is pretty scary.

--EQ 1 had some pretty scary moments too.  On pvp server, someone told me "ghoulbane" quest started out at this building in Troll territory.  I spent 15 minutes zoning back and forth to escape this troll player who was trying to kill me.

-Creep Wise- Dark age of camelot, there was a player on my server who was known to "cyber" people.  Played a chick character, even had a fake myspace profile set up with many chick pictures, full profile filled out and everything.  Turns out it was a dude.  Probably happens all the time, but that player quit shortly after he was "found out".  very creepy lol.

I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.

Haha kicked by snakes... That's EQ1. They could also parry your blows!

Also a cool thing about EQ1 was, with weapons at least, you could tell if a mob was going to drop a weapon you wanted... Because it'd actually be wielding the weapon (which you might recognise from it's look)......

Anyway just with that whole enemy wields the weapon loot thing; I was once attacked by a bear (just a normal big grizzly bear on all fours)..... That was actually holding a sword in it's front paw.

EQ1 is always going to be my true fear moments because of the real (ingame) danger (along with EVE from how it sounds from posts here, though I've never played).

My best EQ1 fear was being a newbie with crap RAM and my view distance down so low that the "fog" stops me seeing anymore than 5ft in front me. I was in The Nexus zone and zoned into Netherbian Lair by mistake and got turned around somehow and couldn't find my way back out. I was running around like a fool with rising terror (since you could lose your corpse back then, all your gear and no npc corpse summoning (I wasn't aware of the player necro/SK corpse retrieval summoning). After the panic reaches a crescendo I get the zoning back into The Nexus message....... The best thing is, years later, with better ram and more view distance I discovered Netherbian lair is a goddamn tunnel/corridor! Yeah there are some some side caves further in, but at the start, where I was running in circles like a headless chicken is just a straight tunnel!

Hmm, I dunno about frightening, but something that gave me a bit of a suprise.

In everquest 2 the very first time you go into befallen......well.....there is some screen static and then...

well lets just say for about 2 seconds I was haveing   a The Ring moment....

If you have seen it you know what I mean , if not...its pretty interesting.

Edit:Now that i think about it , I don't think it was befallen but I cannot remember where it was:(

OH I JUST REMEMBERED....the time that freaked me out so bad I had forgotten about it....LOL!

    In EQ2....

I was a n00b just out running around Antonica when I ran into my first AVATAR. It was the Avatar of Disease, Bertoxx....and he was HUGE and a level 88  triple up epic x4 and disgusting looking.....I about peed my pants IRL.  Just out hunting bears, and I have NO IDEA how I didn't notice something so huge and horrible looking out there in the dark, but he noticed me....

It wasn't pretty. I was so terrified to go BACK there and get my shard/body. I remember hoping to hell that I could get it without him seeing me. I dragged my whole guild with me and I was STILL scared shitless. I mean...our whole GUILD couldn't kill that thing, of course, because it was an epic x 4. But they were so supportive of me anyway....lol.  Ahh yes...back in the old days, five or six years ago when communities were....communities.

And as I recall, this was in the middle of the night (both in game and out) and I had just finished dying at the hands of Holly Windstalker....back in the days when she could truly eat you for lunch. She's not near so scary NOW, sadly, even at low levels. Yup...that was a night of deaths for me. LOL

I'd say it's a tie between seeing a red name pop up in UO (Murderer) and the first train I saw in EQ1 in Blackburrow that went CRUNCH when it hit me and my sound was all the way up.

The scarecrows in EQ1. That laughter was absolutely maniacal and bloodcurdling.

In the beetle group in EQ1(I think it was Solusek B). We were camping the lava beetles for experience and before I knew it everyone in my group was cybering each other......Very, very scary. I don't think I stayed in the group for very much longer.

Stealthers attacking you in DAoC. No matter how mentally prepared you may think you may be it always makes you jump a little when it does happen. It's like you only have a few seconds to respond and if the counterattack isn't strong enough you're dead.

The sounds the spectres made in EQ1. Totally evil and spinechilling.

Most nerving time? hmmm  I haven't have one of those in years.. I would have to say it was back in EQ1, my first true experience in a MMO.. My first toon was venturing into Blackburrow and went down the ramp.. I had somehow got agro from something, and needed to run to the zone.. Trying to run, while getting stunned (which spins you in circles) clicking on the damn door to open it.. Get past more mobs that agro'd on the way.. watching my health drop like the stock market ..  Now that was some fun stuff :)

EDIT.. I say most of my fun was back in EQ1.. and I was just thinking.. why is that?  I think because in any zone there was always a good amount of nasty mobs that pathed the entire zone, or close to it..  That always added a bit of excitement to the game, especially since mobs in EQ1 do NOT forget you after running away 10 feet.. LOL  If you didnt' have SoW, you either fought the fight or died.. There was no outrunning the mobs in hopes they would just go away.. LOL

Everquest one, sitting with your spell book open meditating because you've just been beat up, in some scary place...Saying "please don't hit me, please don't hit me" the whole time. Ahh yes EQ1....When you're a blind-ass barb, and fall into a lake in Qeynos hills..When there was no such thing as gamma><..The first grifon death in east commonlands. Running into Specter island in oasis during the night..Finally getting to the top of Crushbone castle, only to find utter death, I have paid back Ambassador Dvinn a few times for that. Running through west commonlands chasing a bat, only to be chased by kizdean gix that was hiding in the grass or his scarier brother and get eatten and forget to take a /loc so I could find my corpse... The nighttime run through the forest that turns into undead at night, don't remember the name of it, didn't go there much, but the stories alone and the sight of red skellies made me stick to the walls on my runs through. The first time I saw a dragon in dreadlands. I thought I was a dead man, it was scowling, but It wasn't chasing me.. A friend cast wolf form on me and said Gorenaire wouldn't attack a wolf..I was still a little scared and awestruck. Boatrides. SolB. Unrest. Walls of Slaughter. Theatre of Blood. Qvic. I could go on and on, every expansion there has been new things to scare me..:)

I'm also a main tank for my guild.. I still play today and every expansion still brings some of that back, for me anyways. One thing I think would help, is if they took the gamma back outta the game.. It's much scarier when ya can't see what's coming.:)

Funny how a gold spammer came to this thread

    Scary in and of itself.

    Oh gold spammer again.

    Honestly.

The fury of a guildie when he found out someone in the guild bought cold..that was scary.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

  • That they call them games. (MMORPG's that is)

I call them social environments. What's better, a computer screen or outside? No contest.
