Tortage'd

Anyone feel Tortage'd after the opening sequences?

I know all the game isn't "in" yet, but the game should be consistent, either cutscenes have voice-overs or they don't. Do you think they will add them later or have we been Tortuga'd?

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

Meh, it's all the pirate stuff, got confused. Thanks for clarifying.

In an old interviewI believe SE said the main story woulc be full voiced but not the side quest, npcs and stuff.
I don't know what is considered main story though. Or if they are planning to vo some and text others?
If by tortaged you mean VO stopping around level 20.
No, there will be some VO throughout the games main story arc.
FFXI had like 12 xpacs. So expect around the same amont in XIV overtime with a good amount of VO spread across those.

They aren't going to add full voice-overs. Think of it like FFX, where movies have voices, in game doesn't.

    Not very similar at all.

    • Age Of Conan Tortage was 20-levels of hand-crafted awesome before the derivative unfinished end-game of an open world, a radical shifting of gears that felt like a bait and switch.

    • Final Fantasy XIV has basically had the vast majority of the game turned off deliberately to prevent revealing too much during open beta. Only the initial quest, nothing beyond that, basically just a trial.   I discovered that even crafting recipes for level 10 gear that don't work anymore because Square-Enix took them out.  There's a massive glass ceiling in play right now, that will turn into considerably more game on release.

It's sort of a reverse of the Tortage situation.  It'd be like what you're experienced now is the derivative mid-to-end-game in AoC and then it turns into Tortage on release.

I know, I know, if you've experience with the vast majority of MMORPGs you're used to the idea that what you see at the end of open beta is what you got.  Final Fantasy XIV is a much different creature, it's a continuation of a much-hallowed game series being made by a massive and highly experienced studio with plenty of funding.  Their promises that this is considerably less than what we'll see on release day, that this is merely a trial version, are likely true.

Hmm, I guess really all I recall of Tortage was fully voiced Cutscenes. I was mainly concerned with the "main story" opening sequence having voices but the following "main story" cut scenes didn't.

I guess I was curious if you'd think the "main story" quests would have voice acting when the full client is released.

Its not so much the voice acting, tortage was loaded with content, once you left that content dried up  and dissapeared, it was obvious the devs spend alot more time on tortage to sucker people in. (at launch) I still remember the forum wars now. Youd see posts about how this is the greatest game ever, then someone would ask what level they were and their response would always be less than 20. then a few weeks those same posters who were fanboys had turned to trolls. To date the official funcom aoc forums was the best reading that I have ever had in a forum. Darkfall on these forums falls second.

Yes, it's like that in most of the Final Fantasy games as of late.  The big production cut-scenes (usually with full CGI & very detailed graphics) have voices usually, and the in-game cut-scenes that use the game's graphics have no voices.
